What about the fullbacks not playing centrally inverted much as they used to?? If you see Udogie and Porro's heat map, they hugged their lines a lot more, closing down that obvious channel of attack for Brentford. A big change.

I don't think possession matters as much. I think that executing transitions, particularly pressing high up the pitch and drawing the opposition when playing from the back, are more crucial to Big Ange's system. The possession stats are a byproduct of the transitional focus.

Been saying for ages that having the ball is not that important. It's what you do with it. If we have 60, 70, 80% possession, teams will just sit behind the ball and watch us pass it side to side. If the opposition have the ball, they spread out and open up. We can then press and win it.

Just dependw how you intend to play the game. You could argue having 70% of the ball and having 15 half chances is better than sitting in your own final 3rd and having maybe 5 good chances all game. I personally see possesion as a good stat but it just depends on how you view it

Not quite right - spurs will always press up high; the issue with possession is moving it quickly enough to catch the opposition before they set. Even if they are set, then it needs variety of shots from outside the box too

The actual difference is Brentford didn't really play low block. The other reason is they played a man to man style.

I know Spurs defenders like to play keep ball with the keeper but this is to draw the opposition out its high risk and Spurs have been caught out this season doing it and the end of last season so this could be a less risky way to draw them out
