One man Building His Dream Cabin Alone in the Woods

Hard to believe the log cabin build only took 9 months to be live in ready. Remote wilderness FREE crooked logs you make a log home! The wayness definitely makes my home look unique. These trees were about to be burned so I gave them purpose in my new home. There will be more long form videos on the full build with even more detail coming soon. Hey boss , love your journey. Wood expands and contracts during the seasons. That mortar may start cracking out due to that effect. If it does, thats your culprit, try something more elastic if it does. We have a year and a half before we start the same, i was worried my truck wouldnt pull the trees outa the bush but you proved it can be done!

@@saleemcarr9501 thx man yeah I built a cabin the same way 11 yrs ago and it’s all good no real issues. Flexible stuff is way to expensive. Cost me less than $500 to chink with mortar this 36x36 good luck on the build enjoy riding in comfort as you pull 🪵 👊👍

My dream was to own a Log Cabin but someone like me was never lucky to own one. I was never lucky to find a man to help make my dream come true. The men I have known were selfish jerks who thought being a man was drinking with his buddies and working a 40 hr week. Instead of making a life for his Family like this man they thought a week to week pay check was good enough instead off doing better for their Family. Very lucky Family to have found someone like him who built a home of their dreams. Very very rear to find a man who would do anything for their Family. I was not lucky enough.

It would be cool to see a tour of the small cabin. Maybe you could give us some specs on that one, too. I'm about to build soon, and plan to build a small cabin to live in while I build the big one (so we don't have to rent). Then the small one becomes guest house. Take care!

Going to be filling in my gaps with foam after watching you having success this way. I can do the mortar when it warms up in the spring. How many of the foam packages did you end up getting to do the job? Thanks

Thx man 🙏 I notched at rp and blocked in some places at cap logs with solid oak then rebar through all of it. Looks like I ordered two 12 packs from Amazon but I remember buying several more single cans and cleaner cans from local lowes. Good luck on the build!

Haha! I had went through 2 power demolition jack hammers and three sledge hammers until finally just realizing an 8 lb sledge was what I had to use. My arms hurt pretty bad but got crazy strong! Trees are persimmon it’s literally the hardest wood in my forest. But they were free so I made it work

I commend you on a job well done, But that’s not exactly my idea of a “log home” I prefer the more modern, clean cut, stacked logs, with standard walls, 2 story, with dormer windows up top. That’s just what I prefer. Congrats on you guys new home!!

Hello Dave.. Question. Like the trick with you using a saw blade to cut the spray foam from between the logs. The cement chinking... did you just apply the cement or did you install and additional backing like a metal mesh or nails? If you showed it in your video I missed it. When I built my log cabin I use the synthetic "log Jam" product. It was about $200 per 5 gal bucket. "For the same materials It's now $308.99 per five gallon bucket!" Did both inside and out and it was not cheap. Looks great but not cheap. With my addition I like to try the cement way as you done. And I hear that is not only cheaper but will last a lot longer. At age 57 I just need my log home to last about 20 yrs before falling apart. Then I will be gone and it wound matter then. lol Thanks.
