Gammarus or scuds, also known as side-swimmers, are invertebrates that live in freshwater. They are members of the crustacean class Malacostraca, which also includes crayfish, shrimps, and aquatic sow bugs. Scuds are usually less than 3/4 inch long, have a C-shaped posture, and lack claws and tail fins.
Trout, grayling, and many other freshwater fishes love to consume them. They provide a great source of protein and roughage to aid digestion and are also one of the best natural color-enhancing food for fish.
