This is my first vlog of yours that i have seen and this content hit home in a lot of ways.. Its incredible how these things happen. But at least you have a lot of people even online, because when you have neither,, well ya. Its painful how lonely times can get. I look forward to watching more of your vlogs though, silver lining.

I found it interesting to go without social media. I actually deleted all my social media for all of last October. I deleted Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat for an entire month. Of course I checked my email daily because I get emails from my bank/school and whatnot. And ohh boy. You basically covered everything I felt during that month. I felt very excluded from many social events and I even questioned whether or not the friendships I had were actually friendships. There were very few people that reached out to me. Probably four or five of them actually reached out to me through text message and when I did bump into some people that I had as friends on social media, I don't think they even realized I wasn't on there anymore. It was quite a lonely month. However, I did also got some clarity and some actual PEACE of mind. I feel like I was more aware of my surroundings and was actually more grateful for the things around me. It was quite liberating to not have to be looking down every couple minutes at my phone just to be scrolling down. I did also find it invasive that all these platforms kept emailing me about people and things that were on my social media. I didn't realize how much they want you to keep using their platforms even though not even half the people on there don't know that you have even left.

I quit Facebook for a while because I found myself getting into political debates/arguments ( I live in the U.S. so I'm sure you can guess why ) ... I found it was really messing with my mental health. So I deleted the most negative people and just quit for months. I needed the break ... I felt so much better. Now I go on occasionally and make sure not to read the comments sections of certain posts I know might get to me. Also ... I was getting a lot of reminders/messages from Instagram and Facebook trying to get me to log in. Almost on the daily.

Nice to see you! :-) I enjoy your channel as always! My comment specifically relates to the punk/HC scene (that’s the scene I grew up in) and social media. It was so interesting when you said that no one flyers anymore, I hadn’t thought of that but it makes sense! I loved seeing show fliers, that’s mainly how I found out about shows before I knew people and found out thru word-of-mouth. I really haven’t been in the scene at all since the emergence of social media, but I remember around 1996 there was a few message boards that kids started hanging out on (literally, a few!) Victory Records had a message board and I hung out there and I suppose it was like social media....but a lot of us became pen pals and sent each other CD’s and Zines and random stuff we made. I think it’s interesting now how any music is available at your fingertips, when before it was more of a social thing to go to the record stores, get together w friends to borrow music, make mix tapes, etc. ok I am just being an old lady now :-) but I really appreciate your sentiments and authenticity . Of course I remember that the “older” scene kids talked about how much better the scene was “back in the day” so it stands to reason we would too :-)

This comment was such a pure JOY to read! I can absolutely SEE what you mean. It has evolved SO much in such a short few years, its been a wiiiild ride being the generation that both remembers a time with out technology but also lives in a time where it is now relied on SO heavily. I had brought up the flyering thing to a couple friends last night because i almost missed a really great show had it not been for my friends notifying me! He said that he had noticed the change and remembers the days of walking up and down the streets handing out bills asking people to come to shows. Another friend chimed in saying that he has had many of his show posters RIPPED DOWN by a jerk in town who believes he should be paid a dollar a poster, otherwise he will take them down. These billboards are for everyone, so i dont know where he gets off thinking hes owed anything for any of them. Its so weird. The Scene is a wild one!

So weird. I grew up without facebook, instagram, internet, and cell phones. I will never give up my cell phone or internet. The rest of it I can do without. My friends and family get a bit impatient because I don't check my phone every 5 minutes but they've learned to live with it. I absolutely feel less cut off and lonely because of the internet. The whole world is at your feet and you can identify with so many people through it. I am an introvert and was quite lonely as a child but the internet gives me a sense of connection. Facebook is a great way to keep up with my long distance friendships and that helps too. I will say things were more relaxed back in the day, though. All these things create stress for sure Good video. I must thank the internet for giving me the opportunity to enjoy your vids.

When I decided not to use Facebook a lot of people didn’t notice. But when they did notice it was like they didn’t care. Now none of my family tells me when something is going on, when someone is sick or going through something. It’s like their only form of communication was through Facebook and now that I wasn’t there they couldn’t bother to fill me in separately. My mother in law actually deleted me from her friends because I wasn’t using Facebook as much. That kind of hurt my feelings because it was one of the only ways I found out anything about my brothers and sisters in law and now her profile is private to me. It’s just really shocking to me how much people rely on social media and how much it means to them. Just like you said, it feels really lonely without it because no one reaches out to me even though they have my number or other ways to contact me.

megan.morgue I had a bad feeling when Facebook got more personal, when it shifted from quick updates to “stuff we usually only talk to with our close friends.” When I started only being notified of friends and families passings & wedding engagements through status’ instead of texts I had a feeling it would become heavily relied on. Dang, no one even remembers birthdays anymore, I took mine off of my Facebook page one year and it shattered me. My immediate family were the only ones to reach out to me that day, everyone else needs the daily reminder. It’s almost sickening what it’s done to us, in such a short time. I’m sorry to hear that simply using the site less caused a close relative to delete you. That’s heartless.. :( it’s amazing how Many people feel the same way too.

Social media is a weird one for me. I don't really have "real life friends" I talk to people at uni and I talk to people at work but like nobody would go out of their way to keep up a conversation or hang out with me when it doesn't relate to work or uni. So I kind of turn to the online world for social interaction, and whilst I've made some awesome friends and feel connected into so many communities I can't just pop down the road and physically hang out which brings me this HUGE sense of loneliness, and social media both amplifies and soothes this. Its amplified when I see people hanging out and doing cool shit that I'm scared to do alone or it soothes it when I'm involved in an awesome conversation with actual strangers. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don't know! I've deleted the Facebook app but kept messenger and I rarely go on Instagram now and if I don I force myself to sign in on browser, and I can't tell if it helps or hinders, sometimes I go on and feel uplifted and sometimes I go on and feel so alone...

I got rid of my social media about seven or eight months ago and honestly I can’t believe how much less stress and anger I feel in my life. I originally left because I realized how few people I followed that I actually knew and gave a shit about. It was just a bunch of people on my city that “knew” me because they follow me and see pictures of my daughter and husband and whatnot. I just became so annoyed by the fact that EVERYONE knew my business, and for what? Those people didn’t actually care about my life or what was going on.

About people not calling / texting... Last year I was sick enough that I had to drop out of high school for a semester and be homeschooled. I had a decent friend group at the time, but still no one even texted me once (For context: You Tube is the only social media I have). I felt so alone because I used to talk to these people everyday at school, but suddenly there was no contact. I could have been to the ER and they wouldn't have known. They knew I had health problems. The funny thing is that whenever I would run into a friend out and about or wherever, they said that everyone missed me and that "we talk about you all the time", or that " I've thought about texting you, but I forgot." So I guess my point is that I know how you feel.
@Livingdeadgirll

Emerald H I feel having KZbin as your only social media is healthy, you chose whose content you get to devour. You know who is a more positive and negative light, who edits things to look comfortable and inspiring, so you know who is worth your time. The other social media’s you consume everyone’s thoughts, regardless if you really like them or their opinions. You’re doing it right! I’m so so so sorry to hear that’s the way that they treated you, it’s amazing in this INCREDIBLY easy world we live in now, it’s HARDER to stay connected. Truly connected. It’s so superficial, it’s amazing. & also breaks the heart when you realize.

Livingdeadgirll I just wanted to say that I'm really happy that you've come back to your channel, you have a great mixture of entertaining and important topics. Btw- have you heard of Songkick? It's a website, it might have an app, that you can track bands on. Idk if it will have every band you listen to, but it does have less-known artists in the system. It will email you if there's a gig that you may be interested in coming up as well.

It’s so weird the control these social platform have on us. Especially Facebook. Cos like you and your mother, my family send me so many things and it’s the main way we communicate! I could definitely delete the app and maybe just use messenger but it’s such a hard thing to do! I really think you’ve done so well! And omg the advertising. It gets to me so much. I unfollowed and unsubscribed from so many pages and emails for products and already feel so much better even tho I still get those random promoted ones which by the way are scary and very accurate to what you’re thinking about 🤨

It's so weird and interesting that you find yourself so lonely. It's how people used to live for a really long time. I'm so glad you did this, and I think I will try it too. And I kinda want you to know, I do think of you from time to time. You have always been a really important person to me, eventhough we probably will never meet irl. Aand, have you read Ready Player One? It kinda discribes a future like you said, but it focusses on the videogame side. And I wanted to say, I think people in the future will still embrace the past. Just like now "hipsters" and "hippie"-like people will still exist. There will still be monuments and museums I think. But we'll have to see I guess. But I'm just as curious to see how we will then look back at this time era, with all the emojis and hashtags.
@Livingdeadgirll

LePezzy66 everything being shortened to acronyms really worries me! Languages are so beautiful and now we see people typing so LAZY! it’s wild to me! I really hate that people’s vocabulary are going down the drain and when you call them out on it they say “it’s just the internet, calm down.” But it’s not!! For most people we write more words on the internet than on paper! & with such a fantastic auto correct and even productive text we have no excuse! Were dumbing ourselves down, for what?!

Social media can be mostly a negative experience with how many disgusting people there are dwelling on it. It really depends on who you choose to friend/follow. The more people you friend/follow, the more opinions are gonna be had. Most probably being something negative or something you disagree with. i try to stay off my phone for social media, but i use my little laptop, and since i spend most days at home, (i am disabled..it's a long story) i find that youtube, email, and facebook are how i connect with my friends and with the news and the world. When my computer glitches up and i am without those things for hours or days, i go back to reading books, which is great too, but i feel SO LONELY...i really get that feeling. People seem to connect now via text and internet, and not by in person visits or phone calls...so we think we are connected, but it's only in cyberspace. So i am trying to VISIT my friends when i can, and CALL when i can, to help with that problem. We all need reminders to TRULY INTERACT. *HUGS* Please know, it's NOT YOU, it's the internet...people love you, they just are bogged down by social media and it takes them forever to notice when someone steps back from that...not because they don't care, but because they are inundated with TOO MUCH INFORMATION all the time...and they can't process it.
