One Month Later with Due Vite: Why I Think Marco Mengoni Is One of the Favorites of Eurovision 2023?

..at first listening, indeed the text can be interpreted as a relationship of any emotional type and not, if it hadn't been Marco himself to explain it, to explain that the TWO LIVES are his: he and his alter ego, ( the song is almost a psychological session) public life and private life, shyness, contradictions and the thousand problems (that each of us could have) in facing growth, to become an adult, having to face and living success, career, above all the responsibilities of an artist towards his audience etc. The meaning of this song is much deeper and more intimate than one can understand at a first and quick reading and in the Sanremo performance it transmits completely..for this reason the song acquires more charm and intensity in my opinion, then that it is an Italian ballad it also seems right to me...always carry on our beautiful melodies..thanks :)

Marco Mengoni will do well, I’m sure, the song is well composed, they lyrics are profound he is an impeccable performer and he is soooo good looking, his simplicity could be an asset. I hope the audience connects with him. Unfortunately, there are many good songs and the competition is strong.

La differenza è una sola, che Marco Mengoni è un vero cantante, artista ed interprete con una tra le più belle e originali voci. Con una capacità di controllo eccezionali. In più mettici che usa un linguaggio moderno, semplice e sintetico e originale e ti arriva dentro come un treno. È un cantante di qualità a differenza da chi usa effetti speciali. Lui ha sempre puntato solo su se stesso e le grandi capacità. E se questo non basta, all'Eurovision lo sappiamo benissimo che è un palcoscenico pubblicitario, ma l'Italia non va a Sanremo pensando ALL'ESC. Anzi..

I’m biased from the beginning, when Sanremo announced their artists back in Dec, I was already rooting for Marco. The Sanremo line up this year had so many great songs, but none held the stage presence and vocal performance like he did. I agree that there are plenty other songs in Marco’s catalog that are better, but he sells Due Vite really well. I remember watching some videos of how people were sleeping on L’essenziale and was impressed by his performance. That’s why it come in 7th place. I think this year being a pop heavy year, this only being the only 2 or 3 ballads gives a chance in doing well. Italy generally do well with Televotes. I see any reason why not this year. He’s my first place. I just want him to win but I know he’s odds isn’t there but still hoping. Love your videos! Keep up the content ❤️

In the presentation of the song Marco Mengoni said that in Two Lives, he is talking between himself and his subconscious, it is his most intimate song. That is why the two people seem to know each other so well, they are the same person but seen from two different perspectives.

Great analysis, Jan, as always. You're right, especially running order will determine a lot this year. Hugely agree with you on the charisma that Marco radiates and will transport for sure on stage. There are few performers that have this presence on stage, even this year that has so strong songs. However, due to the huge competition and with a song that is not the strongest of his own portfolio of songs, I can imagine it could have a Tamara 2019 fate: somewhere high with juries, ultimately matching his position in 2013 - although as an artist he would deserve more. Although you never know, Italy tends to do well with televote as well. So I can imagine it going as high as 5th. Last point I was thinking is that how do we predict a top 10 with 20 songs deserving a spot there? 😅
