Sweden takes it seriously, again! | Eurovision 2025

Sweden really is a music country. We grow up with music. Music is everywhere. A lot of our youth centers, where kids can come and hang out with other kids who may not have anywhere to go after school, have music studios where you can record your own music for free. We also have free music schools. I think the reason we take Eurovision seriously is because we take music in general seriously. We, the people, don’t always want to win Eurovision, but we want to send our best song, because music isn’t a joke. Music could and should be fun, but never a joke.

Sweden have a lot of good musicians, songwriters and producers. We are the country in the world that export the most music per capita. Our best doesn't get involved in Melfest. I personally think that there are 3-4 reasons we are so good at music: 1. The public culture school. Kids can go here as an after school activity and learn how to play instruments, sing and dance. You can rent an instrument there as well and it is VERY cheap! It is heavily subsidised by the state. My daughter learns to play the violin there. We pay less than 2000 SEK per year for weekly private lessons and to hire a violin. This gives more kids the opportunity to learn music. 2. We grew up with kids' shows and movies (made in Sweden) that had really good music! Really good musicians wrote music for kids' tv-shows and movies. The best example is Georg Riedel that wrote a lot of music for Astrid Lindgren's books when they became movies. We definately had quality music around us when we grew up thanks to that. 3. ABBA. They showed us that you can make it internationally even if you come from Sweden. Before them no one thought we could and no one knew how to do it. To manage it. They are also, in my opinion, musical geniuses. The way the focused on melody put a lot of Swedish artists on that path. Swedish music today is often very melody focused. 4. We don't have English as our first language. I think we because of that listen to music with English lyrics differently. The exact meaning of the words becomes secondary to how they sound together with the music. The best example I think is Roxette "The Look". The lyrics doesn't mean much. A native English speaker would NEVER write those lyrics. But they sound really good with the music!

I want to see an out of the box entry. Sweden knows how to produce good pop songs, it’s in their veins, but it’s getting too predictable, and a bit boring.

There are always different style songs in the national competition, they just seldom win the vote. Lot's of young girls vote a lot, so handsome youngish men have a huge leg up usually.

Maybe there is a bit of magic in the gold and blue colors of Sweden and Ukraine! Mello is Sweden's answer for Mardi Gras. It has become a tradition these days.

Måns' strength is his charm and charisma. Can that win Melfest for him again? Maybe, but he will have to have a really good song! I hope that Scarlet will have a really good song and win!

Time for something new though , Europe wants us to do take some chances then we should. Pop is great but how about to mash it up a bit with other genres. Sweden is not only a pop country but also make good rock songs . Personally if Scarlet send something near as good as Cirkus X last year well then they should get te chance to show that we are capable of rock too🤩🙌

yes, this is Eurovision perspective, not a business one and also they do what they are best at. Logical. There are other 39 countries where only Ukraine, and for different reason Sweden are extremely consistent. And each has also its specific flavours all the time or mostly.

I want Scarlet to win this time around so the ESC fans can enjoy something a little bit different from our usual pop. I believe people want to see new faces aswell, Måns and John have already been to ESC before and the hard core fans will recognize them and will know what kind of music to expect from them, while Scarlet and Klara will be new faces and might be more fun. With Måns we could win ESC once again or get top 10 at least but we need to come out of our comfortzone of pop music. I don't mind Måns representing us again but I will personally root for Scarlet!

Sometimes I joke that to be good at Eurovision You need to have Blue and Yellow in your Flag because Ukraine and Sweden are the 2 Biggest Powerhouses in Eurovision (sorry Italy you are 3rd) and all three of Italy, Ukraine and Sweden dont have a formula. But I have noticed that all 3 have National Finals (I know calling San Remo a NF is controversial but for the purposes of this comment a National Final is a Publicly Broadcasted show which the Public gets part or all of they say in who goes to Eurovision and by that Definition San Remo is an National Final) All 3 National Finals have been there a long time and all 3 always have a lot of national support. I dont know why National Support is a factor when you cant vote for your own country but its a pattern I have noticed that songs with more National Support do better at Eurovision. Honestly I think that Ukraine and Sweden will both be favorites one all the songs have been released.

The main difference between Sweden and Ukraine is that Ukraine offers us something new every year. They take their music just as seriously as the Swedes but they don't limit themselves to overly slick, hyper produced pop bores.

You can also see patterns in Ukrainian music. After all this is maybe what those countries really offering, creating spce for others to find theirs. Imo it makes sense

The rest of us said ITALY AND SPAIN should get out of the BIG 5 until they're taken seriously. Every entry has been better than Sweden. Sweden does have a formula but they are almost as if America were to send an entry. Too serious for it's own good.

Although I like those songs that those idiotic fans call "generic swedish pop", the Melodifestivalen is still far behind Sanremo. Look at Sanremo, more than half of their line up every year is just stars. I saw the Melodifestivalen list for 2025, only 1 artist can be classified as a big star and that is Mans. Thats it. Thats still quite bad

Its too difference poles of amazing quality. One americanised pop and the other one italian brilliance. Imo Italy is having much stronger line-up as more star level artists going to sanremo. Melo is more of a show also focused extremely on visuals. Sanremo is traditional, musically absolutely insane level of quality. Love both.

Sure, if you take a look at the other contestants there isn't the big wow artists that will get everyone happily excited, plenty of them are seemingly just a waste of time, why not Zara Larsson in that case? The point is after last lazy years medicore lineup, Svt want to get a good variation songs and artists, something that makes sense since Melodifestivalen tends to be more popular than Eurovision. I like this lineup, especially Schalgerz and Maja Ivarsson. Kaj will be intersting too and Linnea Henriksson, one of the dream artists Svt has been longing for, for a while.

Well, Zara Larsson is a huge international artist, that would be a miracle to catch her for 2 contests, which would mean she needs to give other businesses aside for quite a while... also such artists will maybe come one day to Eurovision, but for this Eurovision needs to have much higher credit.

@@JanBors It would be kind of unfair if she was given extra wage compared to the rest, every artist is given 75000 thousand kronor to stage thier numbers, excluding dancers since they are in-house(about 6,050 euros) the rest have to be paied by the artist.

Sweden WANTS to win, some other country's send crap songs because they are afraid to host next years expensive "Music Olympics". Sweden always deliver a great production when we host it. Petra Mede is the greatest host ever.

this can be one thing, but much bigger reasons are combinations between quality of Music industry, TV industry, their connections and also Eurovision reputation... I can continue - lack of philosophy and vision - how and why we want to do Eurovision at the first place, what continuity, how artists do after a contest... so many factors, connected to those first two. With a good leadership and support of both TV Broadcaster and Music industry, you cannot expect miracles. Exactly what in Sweden works quite well with a purpose and business together.

well, I dont see it this way at all. A bit too much as if Mello is something, at least from my eyes, its whole family swedish show. Numbers supports this claim as its almost the whole population watching this phenomenom. I actually never had those vibes from it. On the other hand, Eurovision is shifting, also by producer choices and instead if following swedish way of quality acts sending, its going a bit opposite way but thats more likely because of lack of producing quality in some other countries and stupid rule of semifinals at eurovision and zero reforms of quality measures.
