One month with a dumbphone - an update (Nokia 6300 4G)

I use a Nokia 2720 so my experience is a bit different, but what i do is keep my smartphone around as a companion device in my handbag or backpack. With wireless earphones i can still listen to my song library offline, and when i need to use important stuff like mobile banking i hotspot off my dumbphone or use a free WiFi signal. Maybe eventually ill wean myself off needing to carry it at all but this compromise works well for me so far, i actually posted this from my dumbphone!

I have same Nokia 6300 4G phone and same slow issue. Hold the "back" button or "end call" button. A menu pops up, open "memory cleaner" and do "Deep Memory Cleanup". That will perk your phone back up and make it responsive again. Hope this helps.

Good video, I am going back to a dumb phone very soon, I am ditching the Internet too. I actually can't wait, I waste so much time looking at screens mindlessly, I'm excited to get back into reality and not be so consumed and stimulated all the time with these damn screens and youtube shorts and bullshit. When I originally got this phone, it had Google assistant AND Google voice typing. KaiOS ended their google partnership, which is why those features were stripped, but the phone was farrrr more useable in terms of texting. My keys also 'skip' making typing really frustrating, and the charging port is not doing well, i need to prop the phone up to charge it. Other than that, a perfect detox device. Decent battery, decent cpu performance, youtube, wifi, maps. Id still get it. Great review!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this issue of the keypad skipping. It's the reason why I've stopped using it, it makes it so unusable for me as I text often and I'm not always in a situation I can use the voice messaging feature. Did you get another phone or are you still using the 6300 4g?

@@theliopleurodon Lol I actually don't text too much personally, so I can imagine if you do how frustrating it can be. It was literally a perfect device before the update, for the purposes I'm using it for. I still am using it to this day, although am not as not as disciplined as I was prior to the phone update. I figure that, although it is frustrating to use... That's the whole point of the 'experiment' for me; to make things LESS convenient, so I have to adapt to the situation, or find an alternative. That's when I experience the changes I seek.

I leave my smartphone permanently plugged into the electricity socket at home, so it has become my home phone (I´m old enough to remember when those existed), and I bought a cheap KaiOS phone which I keep in my bag. Something that has also worked for me is deletin apps on the smartphone, so I don´t get sucked in by them the moment I arrive home.

I just ordered a ‘transition’ dumbphone as I was too nervous to let go of Spotify and maps with an absolute brick. The f21 pro, I’m hoping will replace my iPhone as my daily driver where I just don’t rely on it heavily

My English is not so good, so desconsider eventual grammar mistakes. I've seen your experience and I decided something little different. I'll keep my smartphone but just at home, and just for 30 minutes a day. Sometimes when I will need them, for example in a trip to take photos I will bring it with me, but I don't want keep the smartphone with me all the time. I don't use social media nowadays so this is not a problem to me, I realized the "life" in social media is just a soap opera life, an edited life. Not real life. You're a gorgeous woman , don't let people say to you your own value. Don't live your life by judgment of others. Yours videos were very important to me. Thank you.

My work includes replying to a lot of WhatsApp messages so what I did was I uninstall all social media apps on my phone and it actually did work for me. My screen on time is now below 1 hr everyday. And also if you want to uninstall apps like youtube which can’t be uninstalled by default you can use a tool like universal android debloater. I am happy with what I did because I still have my music streaming apps, banking apps and an excellent camera. If you are an android user you can try this. I did it on my S20 fe 5g. Btw I love your video but going complete dumb phone for me is kind of a bit too hard.

I have been looking for a dump phone for a long time to get away from my smartphone, but the more I look into it, the more I see videos, the more I look for different phone models, the more I realise that living in the modern world, or rather in a big city with a dump phone, is very difficult. There are things I do instantly on a daily basis (check email, pay, scan qr codes) that are impossible or frustrating to an unbearable degree with a phone like this

I ended up using the calls and text only phone on certain days and then my smartphone on other days but I got rid of loads of apps and also cancel my unlimited data just 1 gb a month now 👍🏻

I found the battery life to be bad. It would run out of power really fast even though I never really actually used the phone. It didn't last more than 2-3 days of me barely using it

Hello! I’m a bit late to your subject matter covered, but still pertinent. I come from the era of the flip phone, and yearn to go back, BUT……..the hardware in most of the current phones is mostly third tier garbage, and no where near the quality of the past gems. Instead of neutering your technological possibilities, why not use the superior hardware of your smartphone, and try a bit of self discipline in tailoring its use? It’s hard.
