Best version ever by your '82 Blue Devils. And yes, I heard BD do it live, it brought the house down. Classic drum corps tune on two-valve G bugles.

I like Jim played this song with The 1981 Concord Blue Devils, I also played it in ‘82 and ‘83! Then again in the 2009 SF Renegades! It’s kind of the theme song of my drum corps life. I also played a solo that in this version was played by a trumpet but in 1983 when we played this tune it was played by a baritone before the trio. Love this song and this is a good version.

Good stuff! This was the closer for my high school band during my sophomore year... Snare drum! There's one thing I've always wondered though, and that's, who is Chuck Corea? I've heard of Chick Corea, jazz pianist/keyboardist, and this sounds like something that he would play. So who's Chuck Corea? Somebody help me out. By the way, my high school drumline instructor played this with the Blue Devils in 1982 I think.
@Cedestra8 жыл бұрын
When we played this in high school, my director said this song was created in honor of Chick Corea and another famous jazz great. So Chuck Corea was a portmanteau of Chuck someone and Chick Corea.

The song name is a mix between Chick Corea and Chuck (I forgot his last name.)

Gene Puerling wrote this for his group Singers Unlimited in 1980. In 1981 Wayne Downey (Blue Devils) arranged if for BD's book. They performed it three seasons in a row, with big changes to the end and then the beginning each year. Gene Puerling said that he was inspired by the playing of both Chuck Mangione and Chick Corea, so the name was indeed based on the two musicians. Here is the original for six voices. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXSvf4JofZabjsU

Sounds like a demo recording. Westshoremen Alumni perform a similar arrangement which was also based off the BD classic. Unsure of one of our gigs performing the beast onstage is up on KZbin- for our lack of rehearsal time, to do this in front of people acceptably is very tough for us and a real challenge but very satisfying.
