I absolutely love this, with a passion! 🤩 It's the only one of the entries so far I have actually wanted to listen to again and again. I was pretty sure I would like the song since it has Kiro producing it, and it didn't disappoint! This type of music seems to be exactly my thing nowadays, something heavier mixed with awesome electronic beat. I am not sure if this is what we should send to Eurovision this year, but I don't care if it goes or not. I just LOVE that this is in UMK, because I probably would have not discovered this otherwise. I very very selectively add anything to my playlists (the past year I have only had Käärijä and Joost Klein there), but this one will deffo go there.

YES! I agree so much. As much as I enjoy No rules I was REALLY hoping for it not to win, because Paskana would be so different from Cha Cha Cha, it shows variety. Look at Portugal with Saudade saudade, Ai coração and Grito, or at Serbia with In corpore sano, Samo mi se spava and Ramonda, or Slovenia with Disko, Carpe Diem and Veronika. I personally enjoy when you get to see the musical variety of a country through ESC. From Sweden we just get pop in English. From Cyprus we rarely get something that's not trying to be Eleni Foureira 2.0. So I'm completely on board with you, as fun as this is I'm REALLY hoping it's not picked, because Finland would start to look like a one-trick pony.

Yeah, your deduction of the vocals was spot on. Basically, the dirty vocals are the ones with a lot of distortion, usually based on screaming techniques, growling, extreme vocal fry. The clean singer usually sings the melody, and does so in standard voice, maybe with some belting or twang, but nothing extreme. That's what the other singer is for. The distinction originated in orchestral/gothic metal - these bands usually had an "angelic" singer (most often a classically trained female voice) and a 'devilish" one (most often growling male singer). Having "designated" singers is also very popular in all the -core genres, metalcore, dancecore, electrocore. You need more than one singer anyway to deliver the powerful songs live, and there are people that are better at certain types of singing (also, constant switching between techniques takes a toll on one's cords - it's both technically hard to do and very easy to injure yourself). There are only few singers that constantly switch like it's nothing, e.g. Tatiana Shmayluk from Jinjer.

If they succeed to bring enough funny elements to the live show this can even win. But Goldielocks and Erika Vikman are the artist I´m waiting the most. Goldielocks is a like 2025 European version of the Blondie and the songwriter/producer couple behind Erika Vikman´s song, Chisu and Jori Roosberg is real superduo. This is possibly going to be the most divisive song of the season, if the last 2 songs are not so epic that somehow average finnish people wont vote this to Eurovision 😆. Even finnish eurovision community is very divided about this. Some hate it either by being not their genre, or feel the song is too gimmick/cheap/similiar to Käärijä (same producer) and Electric callboy, and the other part loves it and is probably going to mass vote it if the last 2 songs are not enough powerfull. They said they would bring something to the stage that has never been seen in UMK. That could be something like the trampoline in Robin's performance (as before the lives, he also said he does something never seen before in UMK) or something totally out of the box. Or literally a dog box, idk lol. I have heard Erika's song might have some Ramstein influence though. If she is going to bring rock-ish song about sexuality, which is also epic banger, then there might be duel fight for the first time in modern UMK history with most votes being divided between two entries 😶🌫. Goldielocs could be asurprise, but since she is put between these two entries, that typically does not really suggest its the best song.

@ Juries have their place. I think they should be a bit bigger with a decent variety of expertise (not too much emphasis on pop and radio). Classical musicians in juries actually gave points to Käärijä for instance, as they appreciated the genre change. 'Puppy' would divide people a lot. Those into Käärijä, Joost, Electric Callboy, and hardcore metal or those just wanting a party song will love it. However, it doesn't tick many boxes on which juries judge songs on. Even if a member of jury liked the song, they have to stick to the criteria (creativity, vocal ability etc). As for the audience, the metal scream would not go down well with a lot of people hearing it for the first time. W95M had a pretty good song, but obviously the performance was jokey (yet clever and had more meaning that many realised). This would have both a jokey song and jokey performance. Finland would once more bring the party to town, for sure, if this won UMK. It would be likely to qualify for the final (perhaps narrowly), but would struggle there (0 points from the juries would be likely, and very few from the audience - this is fun, but not Käärijä).

As a Finn, my prediction is that if OML has the stage presence & the charisma to really deliver this live, Finns will pick them to represent us in the ESC. Not because their song is clearly superior to everything else we've seen so far (all the songs, including this one have been excellent, and I'm very excited over Goldielocks and Erika Vikman), but because Finland is a rock country and a metal country. If the choice falls between a handful of very good pop songs / ballads, and a fun and a chaotic rock song, the Finns will pick the rock song every time. Of course, it it all comes down to the live performances. If any of the other performers crush it live and OML doesn't, if they falter live or don't come across as genuine, or if they just don't quite have the chaotic energy and stage presence for this, then they won't win. I hope they can do it, tho. I'd love to see this in the ESC. Not because I think they'd win, but purely for pushing the envelope. The unexpected and unconventional entries (as long as they are also good songs and not just joke entries) will invigorate the competition and keep it fresh.

I think eurovision songs are the ones that are more open to the critic than other songs are. I don't think many would go out of their way to write how they don't like some normal song, but eurovision entryes are different. It can be passionate topic for the fans and if its a song from your own country, I think its not bad to say if you don't like it, and prefer some other song to win. There's different ways to say your dislike too of course, but simply stating that its not your cup of tea or you think something else is better, in my opinion is not that bad. Absolutely bashing some song is wrong of course. There are limits everyone should follow. I myself don't like this song, I don't say it's bad, I just don't enjoy it. Unclean vocals is an umbrella term for any screams, growls and distortion. Often achieved by using alternative sound production mechanisms like the false vocal cords (for example death growls). It can absolutely be done without hurting yourself, but there is very little science on it yet. It's a full art form on its own and there is a lot of diversity in what kind of sounds the human body can produce. Lol welcome to the world of metal. This is still quite mild by Finnish standards, one could call this quite poppy 😂

Yeah I don't like this at all...but I do understand why some like it. I like metal but this is just puppy noises and screaming, which I find a bit annoying. Unlike windows95man, this song sounds less authentic and like its trying to be funny too hard. I'm really hoping that this doesn't win because I feel like it might be too much for the average Eurovision viewer. I also would like us to send other types of songs so we aren't just known as the country who sends this joke stuff lol.

i deleted my earlier comment because at the root of it, the reason i am exasperated at this very likely going to ESC isn't the song's fault, really. i think what is really getting to some people is the fact that we don't actually even send anything else but rocky and humorous entries anymore. it's a default setting, not something shocking or daring. we have a lovely pop music scene that keeps getting completely ignored. after the new UMK launched, the only pop style song we have sent has been Windows95Man - people who say Finland doesn't do well with pop can't even know how Finland would do with anything else but rock and humour in the 2020s. it's fine if this goes, it'll get through the semis and finish in the right hand side. i have other songs to root for. but as a Finn this just makes me tired and kinda sad that you can pretty much figure out what we send even before all the songs are out. mostly it is Yle's fault for holding a national final with 6 pop songs and 1 metal song. it's obvious how that will go.

It's very marmite but it's much better to get that reaction than everyone finding something ok as being "ok" doesn't get votes. As most eurofans should know it doesn't really matter if half of the public vote hate it as they can't drag a songs votes down. I'm interested to see the stage show as if it's entertaining this will be a hard one to beat especially with the Public vote at UMK making up 75% of the vote and Jury just 25%.

Personally not my Fave in the UMK selection, i found the screaming bit a bit uncomfortable. the instrumental is great, its has a good build-up and it really seperates the "Calmer" bits from the screamo. although i will still be praying for this to not go to ESC 😂

Funnily enough as someone who typically rolls my eyes and sometimes even mutes the more intense, noisey and perhaps more "gimmicky" entries, I could listen to this song the full way through and not loathe it which is kind of a win in my book. I do feel like Finland for the last number of years have been stuck in a 2000s - early 2010s trend of where they're embracing their qurikyness and televote appeal at the expense of ballads mainly which I don't love because they've had so many quality entries in their selections recently which I've loved and I feel like with the voting format they have, it favours the more televote baity songs. I mean I am aware that I'm biased in saying that as generally I favour more ballads (still have to be quality ones at the same time) and dark pop, which in a lot of these cases is like the opposite of these sorts of entries. I genuinely don't mind this, although there have been other rock/ish songs in selections that Ive personally preferred (Like both of Ollie's eesti laul entries and Ma ei tea sind in Eesti Laul this year and then to give examples that went to ESC , 2014 and 2021). I wouldn't be surprised if this was selected but I'm still curious about Erika Vikman's song. Wasn't a fan of her last entry so I'm a bit hesitant for this years one. The bridge reminds a tiny bit of Scooter, jumping all over the world which I do love ngl 😂) Yeah this isn't my least favorite of this selection so far but I am holding judgement for the live show. Also in terms of songs that went as hard as this in ESC, Hungary 2018 comes to mind (which I couldn't personally stand) but look, this genre of music isn't entirely my cup of tea,it can be hit or miss.

I feel that countries are now bowing to the continual need to push the boundaries by getting louder and more raucous because they've seen acts like Kaarija and so on really generate so much attention. And there's nothing wrong with that when the music they're sending is charming and has a great amount of humour. 'PUPPY' Is an absolute migraine inducing fun ball of energy, with a touch of forced humour. It's the aggressive lovechild of 2015's "Aina Mun Pitää" & "Cha Cha Cha" 😂 I was really looking forward to this but unfortunately it leaves me cold. I cant speak for others, but for me it's pushing TOO desperately to be loud and whimsical, but ends up coming off just totally silly. Not sure how the casual Eurovision watcher is going to feel should this make it through to the finals in May to represent Finland. Recently the whimsical & zany songs have not been performing as well as expected. Kaarija did amazingly, but Let 3, Windows95 Man & 5 Miinust X Puuluup struggled to even make a dent in the top 15. Finland has such an immense pool of talent, so im hoping they choose something away from this so they don't pigeon hole themselves. But I can totally see why people are also getting behind this because Finland do 'crazy' and tongue in cheek so well.

It's really depressing that this will easily bit the previous 4 songs in UMK, no matter how good or bad they are, just because it's a stupid joke song. The televote in UMK always goes for the silly male-led songs. No point in other songs competing, only exposure maybe. It's sad, because there are songs this year with beautiful lyrics and melodies, but they don't stand a chance against this garbage. This is a really lazy effort, really cringe and the lyrics are way too basic. It's not even very original. Wins by default, how sad is that?
@patrickuotinen8 сағат бұрын
Five years ago Erika Vikman won the televote, but the international juries gave the victory to Aksel. So it isn't always that the televote would go for the male-led song. Well, everything depends now on what kind of a song Erika offers this time (unless Goldielocks surprises us). It is bad though, that there are so many female artists and so few male ones, it might make the "male vote" concentrate, while the "female vote" will split.
