And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I understand you tried to compare NW with other music styles or artists. Do not bother. After a few songs/compositions you'll experience that NW is unique. All members are stars on their one, but use their best skills and subordinate themselves to let the songs Shine. Above that they have the best live perfomances. When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZbin. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZbin in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. You just saw Floor and the boys killing it in front of 82K people at the Wacken Open Air festival. They were the Saturday night headliner of the festival. I know you will do more songs from this festival as many will be suggested. But if you ever want a true feel of what happened there, watch the whole show. It's uploaded to YT. You will find that this is one of best concerts ever recorded. I know it sounds presumptuous but you will see that I am right when I say this. MY suggestion for you guys would be Dark Chest of Wonders from this same concert. It was the opener to a magical night where everything fell into place. I have seen them more than once and can't wait to see them again.

I like that you guys actually looked up stuff you wondered about and put in a graphic in the edit. Every other reactor just asks for people to let them know in the comments. I knew Wacken was in Germany (and basically means "cows" in German, hence the flaming longhorn skull left of the stage), but I didn't know it was northern Germany. It's German, so the pronunciation is "vahken". The band is Finnish; their singer, Floor Jansen (yahnsen) is Dutch. (And now lives in Sweden, married to the drummer of Sabaton, who she met a couple years later on a later tour of the US with her other band, ReVamp.) She'd only been with the band for 10 months at this point after joining them mid-tour when they fired their previous singer, but is still with them and they're still doing great. Their previous singer (Annette who replaced Tarja after they fired her in 2005) wasn't as good a fit for Nightwish's style, but Floor is perfect for their music, and their whole set at Wacken 2013 is often regarded as one of the best live sets from any band ever. The crowd of 82k at this festival was really excited for Nightwish and Floor; you even hear them chant "Floor, Floor, Floor" a few times, including when you were commenting about great crowd work. 82k people cheering her name; what a way to make a new lead singer feel welcome! For most of the people there, it was the first time they'd heard Floor sing for Nightwish, at least live, but she won them over very quickly and completely. (I assume videos had circulated online from their south american tour so people knew she was good.) --- Re: Celtic vibes: Irish mythology has Selkies, which are a similar idea of a beautiful aquatic woman who lures people and/or ships to their doom. Sirens were part of Greek mythology, e.g. in the Odyssey. (Odysseus had his sailors plug their ears, and got them to tie him to the mast, so he could listen to their voices but wouldn't be able to respond and take the ship to its doom.) Nightwish does sometimes use Irish instruments like pipes and flutes, with Troy Donockley also having joined the band around the same time as Floor (so just a bit before this concert). But I don't think he's on this track; woodwinds and strings come from the backing track from the London Philharmonic Orchestra (recorded years ago; this song dates back to before 2005 while Tarja was still their lead singer. Floor added the extra vocals at the end, starting with the sustained head-voice note then flipping into a mixed belt on the same note for the final "my fall will be for you". And putting way more variation into the two "my fall" lines before that, really making it her own. In her own reaction to this song on her own youtube channel, she says this is one of her favourite songs to perform.) But yeah, Irish Celtic or sea-shanty is an interesting description of what's going on in the orchestral backing track at one point. Tuomas (the keyboard player and composer) doesn't limit himself to any one style. You guys definitely picked up on it being like a film or game score more than just a "song". Hence the title, Ghost Love *Score* :) --- Nightwish's genre is normally labeled "symphonic metal". There are a few other bands such as Epica with a sometimes-operatic female vocals and this style of instruments that sometimes includes full orchestra instruments along with rock instruments. Floor can do anything from death-metal growls, distorted rock vocals, to clean operatic vocals, or even pop sounds, whisper-soft vocals, etc. (Check out some of her performances from the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers (2019); there are some episodes with fan-made English subtitles. Her duet from that show of Nightwish's arrangement of Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort is legendary, and finally made her famous in her home country, but also check out the 2005 Tarja + Marko version from Nightwish's End of an Era tour). One of the most versatile and technically proficient singers of our time, maybe ever. And with such stage presence and ability to tell a story and put emotion into her music. When you listen to Floor, you should assume that everything she does with her voice is on purpose and has a reason.

Greetings from New Zealand :) So glad to see you're reacting to Nightwish. Their genre is Symphonic metal. The band is Finnish, and the female singer is Floor Jansen, who is Dutch. The keyboard player (Tuomas Holopainen) is the composer of most all of their tracks, and he is dubbed the Metal Mozart; Tuomas is a genius. GLS is a musical score, a composition, not really a song. All the members are master musicians, Floor is a classically trained singer and extremely versatile. She has a very powerful, projected, yet incredibly controlled sound. Her breath control is off the planet. She is a master story-teller of Tuomas poetry in motion, and expresses it in such a way that she becomes the music, a very rare skill. You can't compare Floor to anyone, she is in a class of her own. They all work hard at their craft, as you can see by their attention to detail. 82,000 people at that concert. Everything is in English :) I guess because most Americans are unfamiliar with this level of musicianship and music. Floor is often compared to Evanescence. Understandable, but these guys are light years away from Evanescence. Enjoy an experience that you will never forget :)

Wacken is in Germany. The flaming Longhorn is the symbol for the Wacken Festival because it’s held in cow country. And there were roughly 80K-82k people in attendance. At the time of this festival Floor had only been with Nightwish for less than a year AND this song was #13 of 15. Yes, she sings the whole song in English. I believe there are subtitles available for this video. The band is from Finland and Floor is Dutch. She speaks several languages as well. If you’ve ever heard of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton, Floor is married to their drummer, Hannes Van Dahl. You said it’s like a symphony……yes!! It’s called Symphonic Metal.

The concert Wacken is in Germany when the land was purchased is use to have cows there which is why they have the flamming bull. Wacken is pronounced Vucken like the f word but with a V lol. The band is Finnish and Floor jansen pronounced Yansen is Dutch and is 6.1 feet tall add 3 in heels sge towers above even the band members. Floor can sing in German but this concert was in English, Floor can also sing in Spanish, Italian, Finnish/Sweedish Dutch, Floor has trained at a school of rock and can scream and growl but Floor is also known to sing more of a Pop style and rock style and is trained in Classical/ Opera and theatre. Floor can play some instruments. Floor has appeared with other bands like Epica and Ajen's Star one and Ayreon just to name a few. Floor started at Aged 16 in a band called After forever, later a band called Revamp and Northward. Thank you gentlemen

At the time of this recording Floor Jansen wasn't the singer of Nightwish. The band had "lost" their lead singer on tour in the Americas. They phoned Floor to take a plane and learn the set list in 48 hours. From the start till this performance in Wacken 10 months later, it was all a huge success. That's also the reason why the fans and the members of the band were so happy.

I also originally thought that keyboard was a pipe organ, but when I looked it up I learned that it's part of the set design. And the woman in front Floor Jansen, is by far the greatest storyteller ever. Her techniques and versatility are completely unmatched in this Galaxy. Nightwish Army Denmark 👍🤘🤘 But please don't jump foreward too fast, because you will miss the evolution. And their latest 3 albums are about the same subject - just like a series of books! In fact one of the songs from their first of the triologi - 2015 album ( Endless forms most beautiful) - the last song (Greatest show on Earth) are the book of the same name by Richard Dawkins, about the Evolution. But this is far too early to go into a masterpiece of music like this AND !!! Please always go for the live versions of the songs - Nightwish are a genuine live band, giving the ultimate experiences live, and far better than the studio versions

She is a MASTER SINGER, her voice goes straight to the heart, This is one of the best concerts played so far. 82.000 people attended this concert. Not just a gem but the best band in the world !! Follow Gabriel`s list for all the songs as he is the ``General`` of the Nightwish Army. RIP Ann Waychoff the mother of the Nightwish Army. Floor is in my opinion the greatest female vocalist in the world as she can sing all music genre`s. Remember this is from 2013, you have over 10 years of their music to react to. Their newest album Yesterwynde the are not doing a tour as they are taking a break. I have been listening to them for over 15 years and still obsessed with them. If you want I recommend a book ``Nightwish every album, every song by Simion McMurdo which delves into their long history of awesome music.

Nightwish is Finish, except their singer Floor Jansen (aka the Valkyrie Queen), she is from the Netherlands, unfortunately kidnapped by the drummer of the Swedish band Sabaton. Floor Jansen, the goddess valkyrie grabbed another two souls. You have seen nothing yet. 🤩 And yes, Floor is maybe the best female vocalist of our time. She is insane and she can sing everything she wants - Opera, Jazz, Pop, Rock and Metal and she can also do growls. So this was only a part of what she is able to perform 😂. Stay on this fantastic journey there is so much emotions left. And the rabbit hole is deep. Maybe you will also discover Epica, with Simone Simons. Another out-of-this-world singer.

It was kind of funny watching you try to fit Nightwish into a genre of music. They are their own genre! One tip, in German "W" is pronounced like a "V" and the "A" is pronounced as in "ah" so Wacken is pronounced like Vah-ken. Most of us Americans get it wrong the first time!
