@TonyGoldmark7 жыл бұрын
But...it...WASN'T forced. I don't think the movie brings up race even once - the multi-cultural cast is just an accepted fact of life that nobody comments on, which is ideally how it SHOULD be. I didn't see the RLM review, did they honestly have a PROBLEM with that?
@TonyGoldmark7 жыл бұрын
They had a poorly-explained "not-a-problem-but-still-kind-of-a-problem" problem with the diversity in Force Awakens too, a movie where not only is it NOT commented upon, it'd be kinda stupid to comment upon it because there's also aliens and shit. And they had a problem with that because...reasons. I dunno why the fuck ANYONE would be uncomfortable with more diverse casting. I mean, I don't know the RLM guys personally, and for that reason I'm loathe to call them straight-up racist...but I gotta say, I'm not thinking of too many other conclusions one might reach.

I agree that Infinity War is probably Tony's out from the MCU, likely via "The Snap" (those familiar w/ the Infinity Gauntlet event series will know what I'm talking about). 2:42 - Come to think of it, Captain EO should be rebooted, but this time as a full length film in the MCU. It would star Rob Schneider as Captain EO, Hilary Clinton as The Supreme Leader, and Ed Helms as Hooter. I remember when I first rode the Spider-Man ride... actually my first trip was in 2002, the same year the movie came out. I was terrified... of course looking back I see that just means they did it right but I used to not be as fond of thrill rides as I am now. And even though it is more or less a motion simulator dark ride combo I do consider The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man very much a thrill ride. The level of immersion and integration between the sets, screens and even the ride vehicle were just amazing and it went unrivaled for almost a decade, before Universal (imo) blew their own ride out of the water with Forbidden Journey, and even with that, it's still a very thrilling and immersive attraction. I;m surprised Disney hasn't tried to do a similar ride. I know that the ride system isn't trademarked for use by Universal like FJ's, since Busch Gardens in Virginia has a ride using the same technology, even with the same manufacturers. I mean Imagine a ride like that but with Disney Villains. And it's not like Disney and Universal haven't "stolen" ideas from each other before... since that's kind of their whole history. Anyways I'm getting carried away, as I often do. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is an amazing ride. And it's probably even more amazing after the 2012 redo, but I haven't ridden it since then.
@TonyGoldmark7 жыл бұрын
I mean, the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland and Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom use the exact same ride vehicle technology as Spider-Man and Transformers, just with actual physical sets instead of big screens. I would argue that makes it even better.
@FireBlastStudios7 жыл бұрын
I feel it depends on the story of the ride. for stuff like Indy or Dinosaur, your on the ground, and everything is supposed to look realistic, so it makes more sense for everything to be physical,. With Spider-Man you got characters swinging and flying all over the place, it makes sense to have screens. I think screens are sort of like the CG of the theme park world they shouldn't be relied on all the time, but rather used to achieve what (currently) wouldn't be able to be done otherwise.

Ooh I finally get to watch this video now that I've seen the movie. I was very apprehensive about this movie since I enjoy Spider-man comics and considering how bad Amazing 2 was and how up their own butt the MCU can be I was concerned. But I was surprised to see how well they handled the villains in this movie, adding much more dimension to the Vulture than he has in the comic and putting the freaking Shocker in it. It was nice that they didn't repeat things in other movies. I was upset about how they changed Flash's characterization as he's my fav and I didn't see his positive qualities shine through here. I'm curious to see how they will continue with these Spider-man movies

Anyway, on the incredibly unlikely chance you're still interested, I mean Toomes' speech to Peter about people like Tony not caring about people like them sticks, and I think it's cause of that speech that he rejects the suit at the end. Not that Peter thinks Tony doesn't care, but Vulture got spurned and operated unchallenged for years because he was "below the Avengers paygrade". Peter has to be "friendly neighborhood Spider-Man" because being an Avenger basically puts him in an ivory tower where he wouldn't be able to stop more blue collar bad guys like Vulture from flourishing or getting their Start of Darkness in the first place.

...I know it's not really the main focus but I have to wonder, did any high school age person actually find this high school setting relatable and authentic feeling? I'm honestly curious, I haven't found very many opinions from actual kids in the age group. Every reviewer keeps praising it as being realistic and great but it just felt like every same forced fake high school movie cliche that has been repeated since the 80s. Nerdy outcast (you can tell they are nerdy because they like STAR WARS, no one other than hard core nerds like star wars, right?) trying to "fit in" wants to ask bland pretty girl who's out of his league to the big dance with the help of his comic relief bff. Because apparently there are NO OTHER high school experiences or stories to tell other than that one narrative. Nothing about it felt familiar and real at all, it felt like it was written by people who haven't interacted with a real high school for decades (which I'm sure it was.) There were a few good moments here and there but I wish they had tried to be a little more original with it. I was so looking forward to getting a super hero who's background I could relate to more but I didn't really get that. Idk no one else seems to have a problem with the high school aspect from what I've seen so far so maybe it's just me :/
@TonyGoldmark7 жыл бұрын

@T.F.Samwell7 жыл бұрын
Wow really? eh, well I have no way of knowing exactly what those people were referring to without asking them directly... And unfortunately none of my friends have seen it yet so I can't ask anyone in real life either. Maybe I shouldn't have phrased it that way, I guess it's not that it necessarily felt completely fake, but that doesn't make it NOT cliche. Most movie cliches come from some aspects of reality, but every high school centered movie I've ever seen just keeps re-using these same few ones. Like in one of the first scenes when they had the nerd bff (I forgot all of their names honestly) come up to Peter with the Star Wars lego thing, and the pretty cheer leader behind them sneered and went "ugh, lame" in that one instant I felt like I IMMEDIATELY knew exactly what they were going to do with this setting, I knew every character they would introduce along with their purpose and their personality, and I was right. Maybe the fact that it was so predicable to me prevented me from getting sucked in and believing it. it's not necessarily grossly WRONG, it's just nothing even remotely new. It barely scratches the surface of the high school experience and because they didn't seem to want go past the bare-bones concept of what it's like in a traditional high school yeah I guess they didn't get anything really wrong because there was hardly anything there. I don't know how to explain it any better, I just wish I could get a story in a modern high school that explored different aspects and perspectives instead of reusing ones we've seen a thousand times. Then again, I suppose the movie was bound to whatever narrative was portrayed in the comics and I'm just a filthy casual who has never read them, so maybe they were just being accurate to that (sorry for the long rants, like I said I have no one in real life to talk to about the movie yet, so I must scream into the void of the internet)
@joeldaviswarren7 жыл бұрын
I am a teenager, and I found this movie to be decently relatable in terms of Peter's social life in high school. However, I do think the writers were somewhat unaware of just how many teens today embrace nerd and geek culture. Although, I guess you can say it was intentional due to the fact it could be commenting on hipsters and pretentious fake nerds. You know the kind. The pretty person who wears thick glasses, pretends to like 'nerdy' things, and is constantly wanting to be different from everyone else. At my school, just be hot and do the things I previously mentioned to be a 'nerd'. If your ACTUALLY a nerd, your sort of forgotten about. If you keep that in kind, you can sorta interpret this high school setting in the same way. Peter is a real nerd, and is left forgotten about because the unconventionly attractive "nerds" are faking their quirky hobbies, leading them to be proceeded as cute, and not creepy.
