I rarely comment on videos - but this thing is awesome. I saw it pop up in my ebay feed and was sad when it had already sold. Such a cool piece of history. I actually have one of the massive 5-blade Lasko fans that this purportedly would have competed against, and I tell you what, that thing is just as deafening as this seems to be lol. That thing is built heavier than almost anything else i own and will never leave my collection. Thank you for sharing this!

That thing is wild. What a cool fan! Lakewood made a lot of oddball stuff for store brands. I know in the 80s Lakewood made 3rd gens with split capacitor motors for Kmart box fans..but they never made them for the Lakewood branded ones.
@colin_58398 ай бұрын
Sure is LOL! Yeah Lakewood definitely did some funky stuff with some of their products and brand names. I think at one point they had an almost GM esk setup with the main couple brands they had... Thanks for Watching!

Cool fan, plus an interesting story on it. I like the huge scissors leaning on the wall in the background. I still haven't found a motor for my Pencrest reversing 3 speed box fan I asked you about years ago. Would your friend have one? Would love to fix the fan, as it's super cool looking.
@colin_58398 ай бұрын
Yeah it sure is! I love the massive scissors as well! I want a pair LOL! Hmm, not sure, I'd have to ask. Have you tried reaching out on some of the fan collecting facebook pages at all? Thanks for Watching!

Wow, that is one kick ass fan! my favorite box fans would also have to be the old tanks and the super deluxe models from back in the day, they’re just so interesting. Someday I ought to showcase my Westinghouse deluxe, haven’t seen another one like that one. I just got a five blader frigid yesterday, although it’s in rather sorry condition. The Westinghouse motors fans used were by far some of the nicest I’ve encountered so far. Using proper Journal bearings with an oil wick rubbing directly against the motor shaft instead of the sintered bronze or steel bearings used in other motors. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah I'm a huge fan of the top of the line deluxe box fans as well and have accumulated a few of them now between my LAU Ultra 20, Lasko Oscillating box fan, the cummins, my Lakewood penthouse and probably a few more I'm forgetting. I'd be curious to see the westinghouse you have! Thanks for Watching!

That is awesome. You have to love factory monsters. I miss my 12" Signal box fan with electric reverse, thermostat and Breez Diffuser grill.

This sounds a lot like my homemade Hawaiian breeze fan (Lakewood Kool operator motor, blades, and electrics). Never thought I would see a factory 6 wing box fan.

It could have been a prototype to see how it would have worked with 6 blades as opposed to 3. More than likely was a response to the GE box fans with the 5 plastic blades that debuted in the mid to late 60’s, since this was too loud for Lakewood’s liking, they came up with the first generation plastic blades around 1971 or 1972. Never had a Lakewood first or second generation plastic blade, but I imagine they have a greater velocity compared to the 3 metal blades with have a greater volume of air. Maybe I’ll be able to do a comparison since there’s a Kmart box fan in box with the first generation plastic blade to the ‘71 Windsor P-23 I acquired not too long ago and find out for myself.

It was definitely a prototype to test out the 6 wing blade set as opposed to a 3 wing bladeset. We believe it was built in response to the 5 wing Lasko box fans that they made back in the day more so than the GEs.
