What a lovely landscape this couple has created...so peaceful and a great retreat from our crazy world. Thank you for bringing us this garden🙂

This is what my garden wants to be when it grows up. Living in a forest myself, I know how difficult it is to garden with deer. My hat is off to this wonderful couple for what they have accomplished. I will be watching this video several times I'm sure. Thank you Jim , Jim, and Lynn.

Are you allowed to shoot the deer. They are an introduced species in New Zealand and eat the habitat of endangered birds

Oh my goodness! This is such a beautiful garden that Lynn and Jim have created. It actually looks so natural and effortless but we all know it's been a labor of love. I love every aspect of this garden from peaceful walkways to the sentimental value of the swing and play house that he made for his daughters and now used in the garden. Thank you all for sharing this with us - it was such a treat.

Thank you for putting the identification tags on the plants, so I can research them for my zone. This is my style, love to see they are using the leaves as in place compost or on their paths. Very inspiring mature garden, they should be very proud, I hope they have time to sit a spell in it.

I love a woodland garden more than anything. It takes love of nature to work with it rather than a fully manufactured & manicured garden. Love the use of natural logs, I saw how nature used fallen logs to create semi-terraces & how pockets for plants got created. Love this couples outlook on gardening! Thanks Lynn & both Jims! Edit: oh yes, much more to see. More tours & bloopers please!

WONDERFUL gardens & so nice to have the owner contribute information during this video. This is particularly inspiring to me, for my sloped, deep woodland gardens. Thank you for featuring many different styles of private gardens. And thank you to these homeowners for sharing this.

Gorgeous garden. A credit to the owners. The wonderful thing is that, as well as the enjoyment it will bring them, they will probably live longer, healthier lives. Gardening is the best obsession of all and according to the Biblical narrative, man's first job. Lynn & Jim, you should be very proud of what you've created there. Lovely.

Spectacular garden, thanks so much for the tour! I so love how natural it looks with the use of stone and logs. Those kousa dogwoods at the entrance, the daphne, the variegated plants…swoon! Especially inspiring that they did most of that work themselves. I would love to see more from this garden. Thanks so much to all of you for sharing.

Jim, thank you! This garden is my jam! I’m so happy to hear you’ll revisit to do a more detailed focus on individual beds. I have a 7b suburban shade garden north of Atlanta. My major obstacles are slope/erosion, deer, and ground dwellers (chipmunks and voles). Thankfully, my husband loves me dearly😊 and has installed numerous rock walls, a pathway, and a bridge. Our HOA fencing guidelines are too restrictive to prevent deer intrusion, so I’ve learned much over the years about the diets of my fellow forest dwellers and the cost of liquid repellents. There’s a precious ecosystem of life all around me; accepting and being a grateful witness to this bigger picture helps to diminish the inevitable frustrations that arise…daily. 🫤Your comment about using gold/bright green in shade is spot-on; cascades of Carex Everillo provide year-round interest and I adore Sun King Aralia.

I just came across this video. It's funny how as you start to gain more knowledge of the different plants and tree species you recognize them immediately in these random videos. I took my dogs for a nice walk in a pleasant part of town that has a forested country club vibe (not where I live), and saw a gorgeous version of this tree in the intro of the video, Wolf Eyes. I was going to take a picture of the tree it was spectacular in its full white leaved bloom. A very elegant looking tree. I'm adding it to my list of plants and trees I'd like to collect for my home some day. What a stand out tree.

Thank you Jim, for making this video, and especially to Lynn for allowing us into your garden. This could be my favourite shade garden video. I love your garden. I'm in the Vancouver BC area Z8 and have 1/3 acre which has a small area of woodland surrounded by tall cedars and firs. We have a slope, leading to a cliff on the side of this area. I'm always on the lookout for shade plants and have been inspired by your garden style. We have some large branches from one of the firs, and I think I will put them on the side of the short path. I'm doing it pretty well single handed and fell into gardening when my husband retired and we moved to this property 10 years ago. I loved it instantly too. I need to paint my shed and somehow make the path loop around so it's not a dead end. The projects never end. But then, what else would I rather do? I just hope they get easier. Thanks again.
