Time and time again when I am visiting Monterey I find myself playing Pacific Grove Golf Links. Although the prices have gone up (as every other course around) this place I still hold near and dear.

I lived in pacific Grove for years. It used to be a deal. Once we were playing and when we got to 10 one of the ladies in the group commented that whoever was barbecuing was making her hungry, she did not know that she was smelling the crematorium in operation.

I had the pleasure of playing this course in 2005, when the green fee was only $20. I loved the course, especially holes 10 through 17. This course is a treasure!

I watch almost all of your videos and I can almost feel the frustration in your golf game in this one. Especially since I've seen you have so many good golf days in other videos. Don't let it get you down. That's the thing about golf. It can be really really hard, but it's possible. The good shots always keep us coming back for sure. Thanks again for sharing.

Agreed with your final assessment. The course is great and definitely worth a round, but not a place that I'm dying to go back to. Still provides excellent value compared to others in the area and is accessible to more and I hope that doesn't change

Next time you’re in the area stop by our restaurant in cannery row! Jacks bao! We do bao and fried wontons! I golf pacific grove all the time! Such a fun but difficult course. Especially when it’s windy, but I keep that light house as my background on my phone lol.

Fellow mid-handicapper here. I’d consider my wedges a strength, I play a 51, 56 and 60 (and PW). One gapping/practice session with a “wooden man” 1/2, 3/4 and full swing EASILY shaved minimum 2-3 strokes a round for me. Huge upgrade from the bump n run.

Your track is the smart man’s links. To play Pebble now, you have to stay at the Lodge two nights and pay the outrageous fees. The payoff? A conga line for a 5 hour round. Frozen at the 17th. If this is Arnie’s, Clint’s, and Pete’s legacy, I feel like the punk who made their day.

PG is fun and deceptively tough. It invites you to try an overpower it but really it’s making shots to the right distances

Have played the course a couple of times but it’s been 20+ years since I have been there. Unfortunately the course lost one of its most unique attributes and defenses as a result of the drought years. That would be the ice plant that used to line most of the holes on the back nine. Hit it into that stuff and you had to just take a drop as hitting out of the stuff was next to impossible.

They took all the ice plants out and gave them to Monterey Pines 😂

The ice plant was purposefully removed as part of a large-scale environmental restoration plan conducted by the state a few years back. It's actually an invasive species that chokes out native plants and harms the ecosystem of the dunes. It took them about four years to completely get rid of the stuff.

Great video. I just played it 3 days ago. Views on front 9 and back 9 are night and day. Lol. And yes, the prices went up but it’s still the best value on the coast. Do you ever chip/pitch with a 50 degree? I use that club any chance I get. Kinda in between a bump and run with a PW and a high shot with a SW/LW.

I usually just use the PW on bump and runs and then a 60 degree if I need something nippy! I say go with what you are most comfortable with 👍

It was more a light hearted jab at the marketing TM does when they snap a photo of Tiger using a mini driver and put it on IG when he doesn't really use one (as far as I know) or putting an entire KZbin video with Rory striping it but he doesn't even have it in the bag. Definitely still gets a decent amount of use though on tour for sure!
