as german born chinese i am actually very jealous how well you read the characters. I speak fluently but usually can only read parts of the menus because they come up with fancy names for very fundamental dishes. And it always makes me very nervous when i enter a new place in Guangzhou bc they can get very irritated and impatient with me. So the "new" way of ordering by just scanning a code without talking to anyone helps a lot with the nervosity, but doesn´t help me with learning more characters
