I'm in my late 40s and I've only been exposed to what my elders or peers have worn. So we're talking Rolex, Omega, Seiko, Gshock, Swatch and (ugh) smart watches. Any other brand I see at the mall isn't worth it because I don't know enough about it. I've had the blue bezel for a little over a year. Absolutely love it and find myself choosing it for my daily wear over far more expensive watches in my collection. The antireflective coating is amazing and the dial just looks striking in the sun. I generally wear it on the bracelet, it is really a phenomenal bracelet, but i will put it on a nato on the warm days and it looks equally great. The watch definitely hit way above its price point.

Love Mido ocean star GMT. Love the true GMT, 80 hr power, the friction pins on the metal bracelet makes it easy to adjust down a size. With the 20 atm water resistance you do not have to worry about jumping in the water. This a great traveling watch a great price. I have a 7" wrist it wears fine.

As the owner of the original blue-bezelled version (and a small-ish wrist), I'd say it does not look grotesque on the wrist despite the size. Perhaps not a daily wearer, although it could be for anyone at 7+ inch wrist, it's a great activity watch. While Teddy thinks the timing bezel is a "strange choice for GMT", I think it's one of the best features of this watch, giving it an additional functionality of an ACTUAL diver and timing anything on land as well.

I purchased this Mido Ocean Star GMT Pepsi about 2 weeks ago and I love it! It is not too big and sits just fine on my 7" wrist. The functionality of this piece is outstanding. In spite of complaints regarding the dive bezel, I feel it is appropriate for this Dive / GMT tool watch. True, you can only track 2 time zones when travelling but, that's all I really require. The extra NATO strap is a welcome addition and gives the watch a completely different, cool, and relaxed look. The quick disconnect pins make the strap switch very easy. Although returning to the bracelet is a bit more of a challenge when trying to line up the pins. For a watch which ticks both the dive watch as well as the true GMT watch boxes this Mido Ocean Star is a home run!

This is my favorite GMT format - dive bezel with 24 hours marked on the rehaut or dial. Trading the ability to track a third time zone on the bezel gives me extra practicality for timing things diver-style. It’s hard to pull off without crowding the whole design. This one has good breathing room on the dial, but it is certainly a chonky boy on my 7” wrist.

I really love these ocean star GMT's except for their size. I hope Mido will release a smaller version up to 41mm diameter with a slightly smaller lug to lug and 20mm lugwidth. Then I'm certain it will instantly become one of the most desirable GMT's for people who don't have large wrists.

I think a smaller case size and thickness may add to the manufacturing cost. That's why the expensive dive watches tend to be thinner and/or smaller.

As someone who is a traveling diver, I think the GMT paired with an elapsed dive time bezel is super functional. But I have smaller wrists, so this one is still a bit too big. I wish there were smaller watches with this exact same package. The marathon GSAR with this exact movement would be my perfect watch.

Not being a diver, I'd never really "got" dive watches - until I looked up how to use one. I now realise that the dive bezel can function as a pretty effective count-up or count-down timer. This is useful for travel, especially when trying to make train / flight connections, and is therefore a good adjunct to a true GMT watch IMO.

Proud owner of a new Ocean Star. Absolutely love it. Everything about it exudes quality. The anti reflective coating makes for a clear brilliant view. You might notice that the blue in the dial comes and to black depending on light angle which just adds to it's style. Essentially a ETA Powermatic 80, its the one watch in my collection that is still ticking after some watch box down time. This watch pops, really stands out. You are spot on as usual Teddy.

Having a dive bezel on this gmt is actually a really cool feature that’s pretty difficult to find across the watch market. As a recreational diver, this configuration makes a ton of sense for taking a single watch on a dive trip anywhere in the world and still be able to track my home time zone without losing the timing bezel for diving. It seems purpose built for the international diving vacation. I haven’t been able to find very many similar configurations outside of the ceramic omega seamaster GMT series. I like the diver format for a GMT. When I travel I typically only bring one watch and a lot of times for vacation that includes snorkeling and scuba diving. It’s nice to be able to have that GMT functionality and be able to swim with the watch knowing it will be safe

This might be my perfect workhorse watch. A true GMT dive watch with 200m of water resistance? Hell yes. And unlike Teddy, I love the elapsed time bezel. I was looking at the Seiko PADI King Turtle literally the day before this video dropped, but I didn’t pull the trigger on it because I wasn’t sure if I wanted a dive watch or a GMT watch. Welp, this just decided it for me. Just picked one up from your site, Teddy. I’m a little nervous about its size, but even though I’m about a 6.5” wrist, I love how a 42mm Bambino looks on me, so I’m hoping that I can pull this one off, lol.

Always great videos. There are a lot of folks that say it's too big, or even your comments about the elapsed time dive bezel. I'll say that there are a lot of watches out there, GMT's or divers, that are great for smaller wrists. I'm a big guy and need a bigger watch. I'm also actually a diver and do dive with my dive watches! I looked everywhere for a GMT diver that has the elapsed time divers bezel and was ecstatic when I found this one a year ago. I have this in blue, and just returned from a dive trip to Cozumel where I wore it (along with my Doxa Sub1200T) for my dives. I use a computer, but also use my watch as a backup timer. More for nostalgia than practicality, but isn't that why most of us love divers? It was great to have the true GMT when I got on dive trips to Mexico, Indonesia, or the Red Sea and have a beautiful watch to wear the entire time. I ordered the bracelet that's been backordered for a while and can't wait. I really like this style dive extension (micro-extension) as my Doxa has the same system and I am constantly adjusting it throughout the day. Though, it's barely enough extension to go over a 3mm wetsuit. I have to use a silicon strap when diving with a 5mm or 7mm wetsuit. Keep up the great work, but never forget that there are still real divers that wear real dive watches!

I actually got this watch despite having a 6.5 inch wrist and I still love it. To be fair, I have a flatter wrist so my top to bottom wrist surface is just around 51mm, which is passable for this watch's lug to lug. This definitely punches above its price point in terms of feel and look.

GMT rehaut + 60min dive bezel is my absolute favorite GMT setup. It's hard to find. Keeps the dive ability and having a true GMT functionality = way more usable than three timezone tracking.

I actually really like this design (not my favorite colorway of it though). The problem I have with normal GMTs is they put the GMT numerals on the bezel which basically makes it useless as an elapsed time tool. I think Mido's presentation is much smarter. You get the GMT numerals on the extreme edge of the dial and still have the full functionality of the elapsed-time bezel, with everything very easy to read. I wish more makers did it this way as it makes the watch infinitely more versatile and functional BOTH as a GMT and as an elapsed time device. For criticisms, I wish it had a triangle indicator on the bezel at 12 (with an actual lume pip) which would make it easier to set at a glance; and a numeral on the bezel at the 10-minute mark (but I get they were going for styling). I also wish they would offer the choice of a bracelet or a strap (maybe multiple varieties and color options of straps) for each colorway. Small complaints, really. Mido seems to have hit this one out of the park, particularly if they are factory regulating them to the accuracy range you describe.

Amazing timing. This caught my eye in the window of a local AD here in Australia last week and I've been considering it since then. Going back tomorrow to try it on (because I got distracted by a Zulu and forgot last time 🤣). It honestly didn't scream 'big watch' to me like some can but I'll see for sure tomorrow. If a decent discount is available I might be walking out with a new watch! I personally love the double functionality of the GMT and timing bezel. It gives the watch so much versatility, makes it an excellent adventure holiday traveller, and is much more useful to me than the third time zone. While I've been considering the Zulu, I'm not sure I'm willing to spend that much on a GMT right now - maybe in the future if I can ever afford and acquire a Rolex Batman. I'm turning 40 next year and think I'd rather go big with an iconic chronograph (Moonwatch or Monaco) and leave the GMT to this beautiful Mido. We'll see!

A great review Teddy, I have to agree Mido is a brand that really should be experienced more in a similar way to Rado that also falls under the Swatch Group umbrella. The time elapsed bezel makes sense for the Ocean Star family being a dive watch but I agree an alternative with a rotating 24 hour bezel (preferably 48 click for those N+- 0.5 cities in the world) would be a nice option. Dimensions on paper seem a tad large but as I've said before it's worth seeing and trying it on if possible to experience how it looks and feels in the flesh. The bracelet is a revelation in the adjustment stakes.

I've got the titanium 200c and have been wanting one of these GMTs for a while. Quality on these watches is nuts at the price point. Easily one of the best ETA based movement watches out there and its not even close. The bracelet is really comfortable, that AR coating has taken an absolute beating from travelling, my dog, and door frames. It still looks brand new. I can't justify buying a watch 4-5x the price for the same movement when these exist. I still like my more expensive watches, but Mido gets just as much wrist time as they do.

I believe you're incorrect about the time lapse bezel being a drawback. I time lapse bezel is EXACTLY what I needed from this watch. I'm a diver and I travel a great deal, so I needed a watch that tracks my home time zone and allows me to go diving. It's the perfect watch and an uncommon design, which sets it apart from other (in my view, less useful) GMTs. I love my MIDO Ocean Star GMT. Great build quality, perfect size for a bigger, more rugged guy like me, at a price that makes it a great daily wear when travelling. The contrasting hands are important to me too, because I ride motorcycles in rough terrain and need to be able to view the time at a glance. Perfect watch, and I highly recommend it.

I bought the black dial from you Teddy and it is my favorite watch. The only very minor complaint I have is that it can be difficult to tell the time in the dark as a result of the minute hand not being lumed for its entire length. Nice looker. I think there a well untapped with some of the ETA brands .Mido, Certina and Longenes all have great history. Also in reality these brands are more within a realistic price range the majority of people can afford and enjoy. I also believe they will not disappoint performance wise. It is fun to window shop the great luxury brands. But a lot of ETA family watches are offering a great watch that is Swiss. As far as size I feel that the 38mm width is more spot on and 38 to 40mm could very well be the width for sport watches and 32 to 36 for more dressy units. Because deep down I feel people would admit they actually fit most wrists better. They also need to make suits a little looser (better fit) so men do not look like Jethro Bodine from the Beverly Hillbillies in a suit.

Hey Teddy! I enjoy your videos alot! Anyway you have mentioned Ball Watches before and snice GMTs became more noticed (thanks to Seiko's 5 sport GMT) I have wanted a GMT with Day and Date. So I fell in love with the Roadmaster Marine GMT from Ball Watch Co. Consequently I went on a mission to see what was wrong with Ball watches so I can forget about even dreaming of one. Instead I am shocked how much I want one for everyday use. Your video on Ball Watch history was cool, but let's see if Ball Watches will lend you a Roadmaster Marine GMT with the Day/Date complication. That video would have me floored as I have the black and Green version on the way. Originally I wanted a Grand Seiko that was not an every day (lacking a day/date complication) and was merely a fixation with the spring drive movement. So I was happy with my special edition turtle(day/date) till Seiko released their in house GMT with the 4r 34. I got the orange variant of the Seiko 5 sport GMT and loved it so much it pained me to see it lacked my favorite complications being "day/date". So I went down a short rabbit hole and realized there are not many GMT automatic movements with a Day/Date.. Why is this watch not sold out and talked more about?

MIDO have a great History and is one of the most underrated Watchcompanies.

Picked up a Mido multifort black pvd power reserve this year with the 1197(2897) movement. It is so accurate! Looking to add the ocean star gmt in the near future. The bezel is a bit of an odd choice. Is this the same movement as in the Radio hyperchrome automatic gmt?

I've been looking for a "true" GMT with a dive bezel as I do not need to track a 3rd time zone. Unfortunately, I do not like this style. I wish Tudor made a GMT with a dive bezel.

6:25 I'm glad Mido put a proper dive bezel (60 minute count-up) on this watch. I never understood the 24-hour bezel on GMT divers. These watches already track two time zones, why a 3rd one, and why lose a key feature of a dive watch to do so? Speaking of the bezel, what color is it? It looks black in this video, but on-line photos make it look like the same blue as the dial. Love the size (small-wristed haters gonna hate), hate the 3Hz beat rate, even if I love the rest of the movement at this price. 7:15 Love how Mido included a NATO but hate that it isn't two-piece. It covers the time zone caseback engraving and adds thickness. Mido has used funny lugs on other watches (e.g. 22mm lugs with 24mm spring bars on the Ocean Star 600), will a normal two-piece NATO fit here? I noticed the included NATO uses quick-release spring bars, what about the bracelet?

Good watch with solid movement but the case diameter of 44mm is very big for my wrist.
