To answer your question, my first foray into higher levels watches was the Mido OceanStar 200C with a black face and rose gold accents. My wife got it for me while we were on vacation in Germany. Absolutely love the watch!!! That started me on the path to being a moderately priced watch geek. Have added a Seagull 1963 in bronze which I love, a Wise AD8 in bronze with a beautiful green face, and now a Wise GMT in 904L steel that I am eagerly anticipating. As much as I love the higher end watches such as Omega and Role, I find that I am more drawn to some of the amazing microbrands that are now available. Part of it is money, but to be honest I like the idea of supporting these small brands that are doing really cool things vs. supporting a brand that spends more on advertising and sponsoring athletic events. Wise Watches from Thailand truly has amazed me with their quality and their design. There use of 904L steel is also amazing at the price point! I also think a Christopher Ward is in my immediate future, might try their quartz watch as I am out of space in my watch winder.

I REALLY don't think you can say a 6.3k or 8.1k Omega is a beginner's watch. Not by a long shot.
@tonyl70006 ай бұрын
It is considered a beginner watch because GADA watches accomplish the most in one to small watch collections... Someone with a 30 watch collection would have more dedicated pieces (a formal watch, a sports watch, an office watch, a beater, etc) while one watch collections need that one watch to be very very versatile such as an Omega Aqua Terra.

It is when you start considering the selection available in the 5 figure price range or even going into the 6 figure price range…but it is all relative. I think everyone has their own “internal” price limit that they will ever spend on a watch and if that limit stops at 5 figures, then yes, you are correct a 6-8k watch is at the top end…

I know a lot of friends my age, late forties, going out to buy first luxury watch. They don't start on anything cheap or unknown, straight to Rolex Omega. Not going to be collectors, so just want to drop some money on a brand they know. My first watch was a Speedmaster, although I have since bought a Rolex. Not that uncommon and why faff about with cheaper lesser known brands? Buy a couple of nice pieces and move on.

My Seiko 300 meter Tuna 7549-7010 has a fascinating movement: essentially, the 6309 mechanical from the original Turtle converted to quartz power. I've had that Mido OS 600 - Two major issues with it and why I eventually sold it: 1) crown spring is waaaay too firm, it can actually push the crown out if you don't screw it in really-really, I mean REALLY hard. Otherwise it can come out unnoticed in a week or two and it's not a nice surprise when you notice that during washing your hands 2) the wobbly spring-loaded bezel - naturally the bezel protects the case and the glass from accidental hits. But when your thick bezel is wobbly spring-loaded like on this one, an accidental bump to something can reach the glass. Like it happened to me. Never again spring-loaded bezels.

Also, compared to my old daily, a ZRC from the 70s I must say that the shine of the luminova amazed me ! Since it's not a Rolex (at least not completely), it doesn't attract too much attention on the street, which is great because it allows me to wear it every day without worries. after all, no one expects to see a $3k watch on the wrist of a 19-year-old !

Their bracelet's are perfectly fine. It's just a matter of taste. It's like comparing steel to titanium. Of course the latter does feel 'cheap' to some people but there's absolutely no logical point to consider titanium worse than steel (besides the known differences in weight and scratch resistance). Same goes for the GS bracelets imho. They don't feel as solid and rigid as an Oyster bracelet from Rolex for example. But this doesn't mean that they are worse in terms of quality. The have a lot more flex but are therefore even more comfortable to wear, especially in titanium. But yeah, I would also welcome GS to release their sports / dive watches on more rigid bracelets so that we customers have at least a choice. They let us decide between their different movement types and between stell and titanium but they don't give us a choice in terms of bracelets.

Best beginner watch is the sub date. In fact it’s the best watch ever made.

Electric power does not come from a quartz oscillator. Electric power come from a very small generator that is pushed by the main spring. The quartz oscillator simply offers the correct time by way of vibration.

I just got into watch collecting. I've loved watches since I was young but I never had anyone teach me or bring deeper into the world. MaMaCoo brought closer to a community and hobby I always wanted to get into more and that is incredibly meaningful to me !

For luxury quartz I'd drop the PRX and go Grand Seiko SBGX261

I've got the SBGX263 ,so would agree with you, it's a lot more money than the PRX quartz though.
