Guys today I am here with someone who I consider one of the best half guard players in the world, Lucas Leite. Lucas has had success at the highest levels with his version of the half guard that he calls the “coyote half.” This is a great way to play the half guard with a lot of control. thank you for covering the sprawl scenario - that happens to me alot as I try for deep half guard. recover to knees in dog fight position & re-enter deep half guard with more power, more momentum to execute the sweep again. thank you professors Lucas & Bernardo!

@@sebastianzevallos473 make sure you bring the outside (top) leg over to the middle before you disengage the inside (bottom). Otherwise you open the door for the top guy to freely escape his leg. That’s the most common mistake I encounter with all hook switching among junior belts.

Love the way this looks. Looking forward to trying this out this weekend. I like that it is a move that doesn't necessarily require a lot of movement by the guy on bottom to improve position. I am a bigger guy, so I need to conserve energy and since I am slow, I end up on bottom half guard quite a bit. One question I have. This position puts pressure on the knee inwards. I try to avoid these types of moves since I am large and more powerful than most of my opponents and I don't want to hurt them. Is this a safe technique for all levels? It's obviously not a knee reap, but it is getting close to that idea. We don't do any trips or sweeps towards the inside in general rolling at our gym as part of the etiquette. I am currently trying to work on positional improvements after defending submissions but probably losing some points. (I am not a serious competitor, but points are a good way to track advantage in a self defense scenario too).

Not big, he'll naturally go with it or if he's too stupid and tough you can just old school sweep them. Because you have his leg controlled his base is reduced anyway

Yes both Bernado's sweep and Lucas will work in MMA. He can't hit you if he's off-balance.
