Another Clough story… friend of mine was a bobby working at Bramall Lane for the visit of Clough’s Forest side in the 90’s. He was stood outside in the cold waiting to ensure the Forest coach got off without incident and after about an hour the Forest team come out and board the coach. Cloughie followed and seeing the cops waiting went up and thanked them. Then he noticed the players were all on the coach in the warm. He went nuts and went on the coach to shout at the players. “Have you thanked these nice Policemen for waiting in the cold while you lot were in the bloody bar?!” The next thing my mate knew the cream of Notts Forest were out shaking the cops hands and thanking them, Pearce et al. Finally satisfied Cloughie goes up to my mate and gives him a wink and shakes his hand. “When you go home tonight you can tell your wife you met Mr Clough, can’t you?”

My brother in law Charlie George was on trial at Nottingham Forest when they just bought Trevor Francis for a record fee. On the coach coming back from his first game, Brian Clough told the driver to stop at a fish and chip shop. He told Trevor Francis to get off and get everybody fish and chips since he'd just had a big signing on fee. True.
@rjw476210 ай бұрын
Great story....I also read that in the first game after Francis signed, he was on the bench (one sub in those days). Before the game he ordered Francis to sweep the dressing room floor !!! Sadly, the days of Clough et al are long gone.

Closest I got to meeting Cloughie is when I nearly ran him and half the Forest team over at the top of the M1 junction 28 off slip back in the 80’s. They must have been staying at a local hotel and decided to go out for a jog and crossed the top of the slip road just as I got there (the lights were on green). Managed to pull off a decent emergency stop, no antilock breaks on most cars back in them days, and stopped short. I can remember just sitting there and thinking Christ that’s Brian Clough. He just looked at me, pointed, and carried on running. A surreal moment.

ANother apparently true story from about 1990; Clough went into the dressing room at Forest, and Nigel Jemson was there too, and most of the squad. "Jemmo - stand up". He did. "Son, have you ever been punched in the stomach ?". "Er, no boss". Clough then gave him a swift punch in the ribs "Well, you have now", and Clough left the room, leaving Jemson doubled up in the floor !!!!!

Nice story but the stats show its completely incorrect. Currie was a sub against QPR, hecwent on after 82 mins and Forest lost the game 2-0. Currie didn't actually play a game for Forest in which they won 2-1. The closest to this story is a game against Crystal Palace where they were 1-0 down at half time and won 3-1... again, Currie was substitute. Forest beat QPR 2-1 in Dec 1990, Currie had already joined Oldham by then.
