Mainly there were problems with the opponents defence. They would track thier man (which is all good) but the moment the ball was played the defenders/defensive midfielder would be caught off guard by the superior atheltism of the other team. They were also caught ball watching, this eliminated any chance to anticipate the pass preventing the defence from potentially closing the passing lane or prevent the run.
