Thanks for the video, Kenny. I absolutely love Pat Metheny, and "Letter from Home" has a special place on my heart as an immense talent from my homeland (Argentina) features: Pedro Aznar. I reccomend listening to his album "Contemplación" (1985 I believe) which is the first piece of music they put out together.

You're a man after may own heart. I love Pat. I got see him for my 5oth journey around the Sun. I was just 16 when I discovered Off Ramp. Specifically "Are you Going with Me", as it was used as background music on a popular radio show in NYC. I finally discovered the entire album in the late nineties after college and pre internet. Off Ramp is pure Gold. Truly timeless.. Also check out his work with Gary Burton(vibes)

First circle was the first Pat Metheny album that I ever got. I got it when it came out in 84. I was working in record stores and we were playing Pat Metheny but I didn’t own any at the time l. First Circle is one of my desert island albums, and is one album that I probably listen to the most over the years. I’m sure I listen to it at least several times a year now. Then I went back and bought Offramp, As Falls Wichita, and Letter from Home. You are the first VC that I have seen talk about these. I couldn’t agree with you more thank you for sharing these with your viewers. Matt in L. A.

I just listened to both of the albums, and they both are in the realms of the way I like to hear jazz albums. I also think the offramp album is coming in at number one of the two. I'm also updating my opinion of a certain topic of discussion as far as easier or harder do, to it being a conversation I got into on my job. I think it is, in fact, easier to make it in the music world today than it was preinternet. I mentioned on my last post that although it's easier to be known, you may not become known or famous but only to your subscribers. In times past, if you were in the spotlight, the listening audience demanded more of you. If you were out of the spotlight, the listening audience who were your fans still demanded more of you artistically. This would also explain why regular everyday pop songs had more cord changes, better writing, and top notch vocal delivery in lots of songs. As of now, you can be without all those things existing in the spotlight with no criticism from a passive listening audience. So yes, life is a lot easier nowadays, artistically for music entertainers. Instead of being a seasoned musician, you can now be a person who just makes music.

I’m with you, Big fan of Pat Metheny and have most of his albums. I’ve seen him live many times since 1985. Off Ramp was the 1st album I ever listened from Pat and got hooked forever ever since but I’m fond of his 1st recording as a leader, “Bright Size Life” with Jaco Pastorius playing bass which In 2020, the album was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry. Thanks for sharing!

Very good here Kenny, I’m a huge Pat Metheny fan and I have all of his stuff, including the newer stuff. Off Ramp and Witcha Falls were my favorite but I really liked them all. There is an artist, who was a drummer, Larry Bright that in my opinion didn’t get his just dues before his death and his first album, Solar Vision which is extremely rare, if you can find it, it ranges from 180-350. It has never had a reissue, or even a cd, but another one of his albums had a reissue two years ago on rsd. Solar Vision is from either 1978 or 83. The album is in a word incredible, one of the best Jazz fusion albums ever made. If you or your audience has time check it out on KZbin. Larry worked with Sun Ra, Ahmad Jamal, Buddy Guy, John Scofield, John Lee Hooker and Paquita D’Rivera amongst others.

Great stuff, I love me some Pat Metheny. Au Lait from Offramp is so haunting and spooky. It's For You from Wichita absolutely crushes me. For whatever reason I associate that song with all the friends, family and pets I've known over the years who are no longer with me. Lyle's synth on that song is just so beautiful. Nana is the secret weapon on those lps.

Nice pick, Kenny. I love all of Pat’s ECM albums. Was there ever a better debut album than “Bright Size Life.” Both Pat and Jaco were in their early 20s. I love, too, the follow-up, “Watercolors,” with the great Eberhard Weber. All of ECM’s albums were just beautifully packaged and produced. The album covers were literally works of art and no one had been vinyl.

Great video . Bright Size Life ! Yes that lp has Jaco and Bob Moses on drums . Jaco on his 1961 ? Fender bass that de de fretted and coated the neck with boat epoxy . In an interview in guitar player magazine in 1984 he talked about it saying that you can get Pettit epoxy from any good boat store ??? Yeah of course we had loads of boat stores in east London in 1984 . I didn’t let that stop me from ripping the frets out of my Kay Precision. They play the Ornette Coleman tune Broadway Blues and that has some serious Jaco on that track . It’s not really a fusion record , it’s a modern jazz guitar trio . Years later in 2011 I went to Florida to the Jaco area of Deerfield Beach . Loads of boat stores and fishing

Kenny, since I'm new to you channel I promise to be kind but in my opinion Pat Metheny - Bright Size Life (1973) is by far his best, it's not even close. The other would be Pat Metheny Group (1978),. There is also a album by Jaco Pastorius call Jaco (1978) that he is on and does some of his best playing, as I said just my opinion.
