Know your horse... pace them so they have the endurance to overcome & not sustain any injury... being 1st the whole race can prove to be detrimental... ego has no place in the welfare of your horse or the desire to win... be smart... AMAZING race for all the horses & great performance by the jockey & horse that were victorious... 🦋

I am a track runner and I compete the steeplechase (3000 meters steeplechase event) and watching this event was very inspiring. A good steeplechase competitor must have speed, strength, stamina, endurance and barrier (jumping) technique. These horses had all of this but the one who eventually won had something only few runners and horses have and that is GUTS!! I love this.

The movie "Ride Like a Girl" (about Michelle Payne, the only woman to ever win the Melbourne Cup). She came from a family of jockeys and trainers. They never pushed their horses to be in front early in the race, they always held back while the other horses tired out - then would make their move forward. Just as the winning jockey did in this race.

When a jockey knows, he knows. He could obviously feel something in the horse underneath him as he wouldn't have persevered otherwise. That horse was not travelling at all well for 80% of the race. Standing off jumps and distracted in between. But when he got him in contention, there wasn't a doubt who'd win. Superb ride and a great effort from the horse (eventually).

You remember the Grand National 1973. Red Rum contra Crisp, Brian Fletcher contra Richard Pitman One Mile before the Post, Red Rum was more than one fourlong behind Crisp an than he won with 3/4 length That was an unique, fantastic finish!! Without any doubt, it was a good ride from Sean Quinlan, but nothing against Brian Fletcher 1973 National!

It wasn't the ride, it was the 24Ibs Red Rum received from Crisp that got him there.....Crisp was a true steeplechasing great, as was Red Rum, who broke the course record that day....so what would Crisp had done had it been level weights? Footnote; Crisp easily beat Red Rum following year at level weights at Haydock Park.

This was one of the most exciting horse race that I ever watched . Hat's off to Sean Quinlan, he had to work really hard all the way around and he never gave up. He reminds me of A.P. McCoy the way he rode that horse , and I say that because A.P won a race similar to this one here regarding coming off the pace ( The 2009 William Hill Trophy ) It was probably one of the greatest rides I've ever seen by a Jockey . A. P never gave up on a flatfooted horse and he went on to win many a race when it looked absolutely impossible. Sean Quinlan is a great Jockey and I got many a win offa him . It's great to see a Jockey try really hard like Sean did here and get a win for the horses connections. What an amazing ride that was, and same for the horse the way he responded.

Hardly ;-) As I recall, Secretariat was a front runner. I was thinking more of the win-from-behind specialists such as Winx, and the absolute master of such tactics, Calidoscopio.

Sean absolutely earned his ride fee in this race but if you knew the horse you'd understand why Sean was working his butt off. But a jockey who really earned his fee & there was alot more pressure involved because it was Cheltenham & a big race/money was non other than A.P McCoy. He made mistakes at every fence nearly & pushed along for a full circuit in a field of 17 somehow managed to get Witchita Lineman ( Gambled to Favourite) up on the line. Still to this day don't know how he won that.

@@tmitchell6552 It was a great winning ride but I was also really taken by the way Classical Milan just kept on finding time and time again I expected him to drop out from four out button matter what came at him he found and then ran on late. Or as the Racing Post reported in there close up Disputed lead, headed 5th, led 8th, joined 9th, led 11th, headed 14th, pushed along and chased leaders 3 out, ridden approaching last, rallied run-in, ran on and went second towards finish, always held (op 15/2 tchd 17/2) Like I said.. gutsy and nearly 11 years old. Lovely horse

I have a soft spot for greys. Last horse I owned was a dapple grey jumper. So watching a grey win the best race I have ever seen was especially thrilling & satisfying, as they tend to not do well in the Kentucky Derby races.

Maybe if the jockey wasn't bouncing on the horse's back and interfering with his stride he wouldn't have had to play catch up. And I really don't think he needed to hit him that hard with the crop. It's an amazing win, despite the rider.
