This truly - to me - is a vintage Kenner Star Wars collection that we will 99.9% never see again in our lifetime. I have a giveaway going on right now that is from this collection! Toywiz is sponsoring it- I have a separate video for it. The giveaway closes on the 15th- unpunched Dengar!

Amazing how I can remember this much about this toy line and could care less about the sequels. Here’s your movie quote from Finn ‘Reyyyyyy!’ 🤪 Looking at card backs I stopped collecting around the time of the ‘collect all 77’ card back. Missing about 4 from there plus the Rebo band. (Rancor Keeper, Han/Leisa Endor and Jabba’s white droid). I do have the blue lightsaber Luke…don’t think I ever bought the green back then. May have to finish it out now.

Collecting these loose is still fairly affordable. A lot of the side characters or variants are like 5-10 bucks, and a decent number of desirable character figures are 20-30 bucks. It’s really still a cheap hobby if you want it to be. I also collect Lego Star Wars and so many of those mini-figures are like 40 dollars up already, and the series has only been around since 1999.
@SentriTMC2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Prices for these figures loose and even carded have not caught up to some of the insanity in the figures and collectible world just yet. Not bad for one of the foundational toy lines of our lifetime. Thanks much for taking the time to watch this video!

I did the same thing with my original action figures. Im the original buyer. When I was 9 or 10, I opened the figures and put them away for 45 years (closed and free from the light). All are in mint and unplayed with. However, I bought multiple Darth carrying cases... I didn't have the c3PO case. All the figures original price ranged from $1.79 (1977/8) to 2.49 (1980).
@SentriTMC2 жыл бұрын
Incredible! Do you still have them today??
@lawrencelieberman22782 жыл бұрын
@@SentriTMC yes I have them all today. I see the graded pieces online and by far many of my if not all are superior to many of those 85 higher graded pieces . Since the figures have been stored in the cases and free from light, the colors of the action figures are deeper, and any figures that have stickers are perfect as well. I literally took them out of the package and put them in the Darth Vader cases. In 1996 however I vacuum sealed each piece because if you ever moved the casesyou could hear the figures moving back-and-forth off the plastic . In 45 years, I opened the cases maybe four times. I have all the original weapons as well and they are in a separate Ziploc bag. I believe at this point I should have them graded. I also have many of the figures that I ordered online using box tops. If I remember correctly, it was around 1996 when I received the mini boxed Luke in a storm trooper outfit with a removable helmet. I also have 2 Boba Fett’s in the original mailer box that they sent me.

Cool seeing those figures in box like I hadn’t seen since Christmas morning in the 80s. I still have all my card backs, but alas the survival kit had me cut out the proof of purchase on many. Will check the power droid out for the offer next time I see it. Bounty hunters were tough to get when they came out. I spent $5 for Bosk, which was 2x the price. Most about $2. Sadly I was at the age where I stopped collecting when the last wave of Jedi figures came out. At the end I bought my last few for less than a buck each. Think I’m missing about 8 total. 😢

I love hearing these stories. Such a different life back then. I remember going to toys r us and my parents buying me playmates tmnt for $3.30 in the late 80s. I've got most of the Jedi and Empire (Loose) and all of the original SW (Loose) all Circa when they came out that I bought (my mom bought the Star Wars ones as I was too little) and have a few MOC Empire. Looking for a MOC Lobot. Would be interested once you receive the AFA grading back in the Empire lot you sent to be graded. BTW: Not sure why I did this as a kid, but I opened them up and then stored them clean and still look Mint Loose, especially C-3PO which still has stiff joints and extremely shiny coating. Not sure any of there worth, so until I can fully trust someone to offer me a fair price for both myself and the buyer, I will continue to keep them stored in pristine condition.

I understand what you mean about the vendor being a bit hard and over-bearing regarding a younger buyer (maybe 14 or 15 yrs old). I was in a small vintage 2nd hand toy shop in around 1995 that was near my university that I probably visited every other week. I had previously purchased a Yakface in great condition from the shop for about AUD$90 a month earlier. This young fella was looking at the small display of vintage starwars toys that were on display and the vendor was doing the hard sell on the Yakface on display (priced at $100 by then). I feel he pushed too had, saying he would never see another one again. Fnally the kid bought it and as soon as he left, the guy went out the back and pulled out a box with about 15 or so more Yakfaces to put another on display. How would that kid feel if he returned say the next week and saw it again after the hard sell. It's all about the rapport and the conversation with the customer. It is the experience that should come from shopping in a small store.

I would like to add that although it seems stupidly apparent to us in this day and time, that an original purchase price of $2.49 or $2.99 is extremely cheap in contrast to todays' vintage resale prices of hundreds, if not thousands of dollars for these vintage toys, back in the early 80's, a collection of 96 characters would be over $240 plus NY state sales tax in that days' money--not many people are going to spend that amount all at once or ever for any toys of the day. Also as a comparison, a current model or action figure, say of Mythic Legends, costing roughly $35 to $75 each retail would be in the realm of $4,800 plus tax, figuring an average cost of $50. So even today, who could afford that much money, only to throw the boxes up into the attic for 40 years? Just saying.

As a coin buff and Star Wars collector as well, I would definitely display the coins with the figures and would never trade them in on any Disney World modern fluff. Sorry but this is a horrible idea. Although I love Star Wars in general and grew up on Disney TV programming and movies, I cannot help but see the current Disney Corporation as a big behemoth conglomerate buying up any and all viable story line franchises just for profit and exploitation. That said, maybe these purchases are necessary to keep the story lines going, with Goliath financing and new blood, but the past series toys and figures, especially produced by the original creators, should be sacrosanct and utterly irreplaceable and historically epic entities in themselves. As a comparison, would you rip out or cut out the coupons in the back of vintage comic books to redeem for reproduced or newly created plastic army men or X-ray glasses? The addition of the coins (like the later taking features) is a stroke of genius, enhancing and creating interest in the series, while at the same time adding other collecting genres into the pot. Just saying.
