I have Greta memories of this mountain. Climbed in 2008 with my wife and I two kids (12 & 14). My son has mountain goat DNA! Well worth the sunrise experience. Top tips: have some warm clothing for the top; use a walking pole for the journey down; we donated our sleeping bags ( purpose bought first use at UK supermarket) to our guide ( well received); have a large black Sabah cup of tea with plenty of sugar; have a good head torch; save video space for the top; make sure you capture the shadow as well as the sun....... shadow over Sabah. Enjoy and have a recuperative stay at a good hotel - we stayed at Tanjang Aru. Accept you won’t be able to walk properly for 72 hrs afterwards. “ the Kinabalu shuffle” .... Ben

@@TheTravellingFoxes It was not like what we can see today. There are some steep stretches where ladder like structures were laid out on the ground. A short stretch from Panar Laban to the summit, shere climbers has to walk along a thin ledge leaning to the near vertical wall at 3.00 am ( and during the day its hard to believe how we could walk the stretch in the darkness of the night)

Wow that's exactly what I climbed over 30 years ago too. I am scared of heights, I practically crawled down the tiny space between the steep surface of the rock and the drop. No hiking safety gears at our time, just hang on to the worn out rope on certain parts. Some parts, it's just grabbing rocks as you go. Best experience ever.
