You are very right! In the midwest, people are running 8 second cars on the streets these days. The sad part of it all is a LOT of sub 10 second cars nowadays look factory! A guy near me has a 9 second street car that looks and sounds pretty tame till he lines up at a light. Besides the full harnesses, roll cage, large tires, and turbo ports in the grill, the car looks stock. With the windows up and sitting in a parking lot, you'd never know the thing could run 12s, much less 9s!

A 1980 Chevy Malibu Station Wagon my seem like a nahh dont want it Chevette type of car but in fact it being a definitive "Classic" and the fact that the engine bay will accept any big block Chevrolet has to offer, makes it a "collector/hot rodder" vehicle. In the same sentence no doubt. it's sturdy looks as well as it being a full frame vehicle further its stature as a bad little contender. Good looks make it somewhat of a collector....granted not the gusto of a 1964 Ferrari 250 GT California, but you get my drift...savvy?

Good video. These are better races than what I saw the ONE and ONLY time I went to our local 1/8 mile track. The first 2-3 runs were ok. Next, a family car with an umbrella and stuffed toy in the back window. Someone said they saw a car seat in the back, but not sure. THEN, two Ford Econoline six-cylinder, 3-speed on the column vans lined up. One driver had a white t-shirt and arm resting on the window ledge of the door. The tree dropped, they left and as far as I know, are still racing to the finish line. Christ !, I thought they would stop half track and fill up ! That’s when I left, and haven’t been back. Just NHRA nitro races for me. 😁
