She is my favorite guest. She has been through so much. Witnessing her best friend/brother ending his life and thinking she was to blame is enough to send anyone into downward spiral. Being raped at 7 yo by her own mom’s drug dealer makes me so sad. She never had a chance for healthy decision making. The fact she’s as put together as she is says SO much about her potential. You are amazing, Serenity! You’re beautiful and super intelligent. You still have so much empathy and ability to be honest. If anyone can kick the drugs, it’s YOU❤

These kind of stories always get me.. it seems that there are some people in this world who only know pain. So much pain that they don’t know what to do when they feel joy. It’s heartbreaking. Unfortunately, when kids are raised in chaos, neglect, abuse, around drugs, violence, exposed to sex when they’re too young, etc.. this is what their definition of “normal” is. It’s all that they know. So naturally when they grow up to become adults, they tend to follow what they know. That’s why it is so important for parents to love and nurture, support, discipline, and teach their kids. Kids need to know that parents aren’t perfect and we all make mistakes.. but they need to see us keep trying to do and be better for them. Our kids see this (regardless of how we’re raised) and the cycle can be broken. They will only be better parents to their children. A lot of times in life when things never really work out, fall apart, you’re constantly hitting rock bottom, constantly experiencing the same types of hardships over and over.. we’re not learning from our mistakes. There are choices we are making subconsciously (mostly due to our perception of “normal”) over and over and over again and each time we’re falling harder and harder on our asses. When things like this happen, you have to take a step back and truly ask yourself “how do I break this cycle?” It’s a hard thing to do. Extremely hard. But traumatic events can change people. Serenity does not know her worth. She does not realize she is valuable. She was never taught how important she was as a child.. so she chooses to allow people to shit on her. I pray that she can love herself one day. I pray she sees the value in herself. I pray she can gain stability, complete sobriety, healing, and she can mend her wounds. She desperately needs healing.. seeing any person like her go through the things they do, is heartbreaking. There’s nothing anyone else can do to break this cycle for her. She has to make the decision that she deserves better and that she will become the best person she can be. The battle is against ourselves. And that’s really the hardest battle to fight. But she’s a fighter. That’s for sure. I pray things only go up from here for her. I really do. She deserves it ❤

I have watched so many interviews of yours over the course of 2 years, & I felt the need to make my first comment with Serenity. What a beautiful, lost soul.💔 She is so smart and has so much compassion. I really hope that she can find someone who makes her feel safe enough to reach out for help. She really deserves the best in life after everything she has been through. I am almost left speechless after watching her story. I can appreciate her sadness, and I understand why she feels that death follows her & takes everyone she loves. My cousin went through similar feelings about being what she described as an "Angel of Death". Serenity, if you do ever get to read these comments, please understand that you are enough. You are worth it & you deserve happiness, despite what you may believe. I hope you find the love and peace you are searching for & that you can be reunited w your babies and find happiness. No. She still has kids out there that need her to stop choosing dangerous things so she can be there for them. She has everything if she wants it. Her husband chose pimping instead of football? There was only 1 choice if football didn't pan out? Before the gorilla pimp, as hard as it is, you had a choice. You had a choice to go to social services and a shelter, to clean up, or to get owned. You chose to get owned. You would obviously be good in health care or social work. You have a gorgeous personality. But nice does not mean good. You have to make better choices with no road map for better choices. You need a road map for better choices. I think only a religion can help you with that. Another person cannot save you. You need rules to keep you safe because you didn't grow up with rules to keep you safe. You have no road map to good. And you need to stop saying that people make choices because they are forced into it. Yes. Better decisions are not easy and they are terribly hard. And most people including me (not about substances but there are other forks in the road) will often make the wrong choice as hard as we try not to. But own that bad choice. So you can also own the good ones.

Thank you Serenity, for sharing your story. I watch Mark’s videos frequently, but your story profoundly touched me and moved me deeply. I want to say so many things to you, good things, but I also don’t want to overstep. So, I will just leave you with this - the part that pulled on my heart the hardest was when you told the story of you praying for forgiveness in the trunk of the car. I was confused when you commented that you could understand not being forgiven, because I was sitting there thinking how could you not be - of course you’d be forgiven. So, if I could wish anything for you, it would be that you find a way to forgive yourself. You deserve that. I’m a total stranger of the internet and even I could see that. You are a good person - it’s plain as day in the video I watched. I believe that your story and your courage in sharing it so honestly will and is helping other women, especially to stay safer, be smarter, be more aware of predators, especially now. I send you much love and much respect. Thank you. ❤

Her story is very similar to a long-time friend of mine, whose nephew I adopted. Sending this to her. And for those who are voicing disbelief: Your incredulity is such a testimony to your own life privilege. You’re so blessed. Because I have heard/seen worse, and I know there is even worse out there that I cannot comprehend. There is deep darkness in this place, and it seeks to destroy.

Serenity...God popped that trunk for you & YOU KNOW IT! He has been offering you a different way of life that YOU ARE SO DESERVING OF & keep passing up!!! Did you ever honestly work all 12 steps in AA? You left the rooms of recovery before the miracle happened for you...many ppl leave before😢. Don't let all the death around you define you...there is a way for you to help others...GET BACK INTO RECOVERY. I've been around a few 24 hrs & know you are being sought after from above. When we don't learn the lesson, there are plenty more situations that we put ourselves in that will offer a much needed lesson. AND YES IT CAN 100% ALWAYS GET WORSE & it will in time. I attend recovery conferences & listen to leads from all over, some have similar stories like yours...all have lived to share in hopes to help others stay clean & sober by sharing their stories. Praying for you sister...for you were meant for MORE THAN WHAT & WHO YOU ARE RIGHT NOW. Get into recovery & just watch...be amazed @ what God can & will do for you, because he ❤ you Serenity.

Hi Mark. Thank you for another incredible interview. I think the world of the work you do and the goodness you spread. Serenity... your story is so troubling. My heart skipped a few bit a few times listening to the ordeal life has put you through. I cannot begin to tell you how much I hope you will heal and find a better way of living. I wish a lot less people would say or write that all this horrors are the product of addiction. Sometime we speak of it as if it was, normal, that the chemicals themself were doing all this. Chemicals don't do politics. They don't design social policies, morals, empathy or hatred. What truly drives these lives to such extrems and terrible events is how us, as a society have decided, agreed or 'laissez-faire' to handle drugs, addictions and addicts. Which is often globaly reffered to as the "war on drugs", a war still going on since the 80s, and has yet to be won. If not just prove to ever be winable anyway... Now before someone put words in my mouth, don't get me wrong, using drugs and developing chemical addiction and dependency are not good for the human body and mind. Not at all. I don't condone or encourage the consumption of high dependency products. And in a perfect world no one would want, need or turn to them. But we are not in a perfect world. And if the war on drug as proven anything, it's that it doesn't do any good on the people that dependant on this chemicals. And not only hasn't changed it for the better, but learly made it worse. The state of so many of the interviewvees here are not per se because of the product they ingest, but quite dramatically because of the life style it implies to have an addiction in our societies today, by-product of our policies, actions and social norms about addicts and addiction. Hearing stories such as Serenity's... I beleive history will judge us severly. And it's not like there is no better exemple that have already been made and that can be followed. Portugal, Switzerland, some countries and cities have drastically turn around their approach to addiction and the results in just few months, few years, are incredible. Especially when compared to the results of more than 40 years of "war on drugs". Which should be renamed "war on addicts" in all honesty and fairness. There is alwasy more we can do. And if it save just a few Serenity I'd say it's worthy. I think it's always worthy to invest in humans. Anyway, sorry for the long rambling, just my own 2 cents. I'm just touched, revolted and hurt to hear Serenity's interview. I hope we can do better about that in the future. Who knows, with more and more people's help maybe even in the present. Oh, and I encourage anyone to look up Dr. Gabor Mate about addiction, trauma, and plenty more related issues. Cheers

I’m so sorry about her brother. He made a decision when he wasn’t in his right mind and the context of their relationship was a loving one, so although I empathise that she wishes she hadn’t said a flippant thing in the emotions of the moment it doesn’t make her responsible and I don’t doubt her brother would not want her to assume that responsibility. It sounds like they loved each other very much, and a loving brother would want her to be well and flourish. I hope she finds her way.

Girl… You’re ALIVE. The best way to honor the ones you’ve lost and to spite the ones who turned their backs on you when you needed needed them the most is a life well lived. A full life. Where the things that have happened to you may shape you to an extent by way of experience, but they don’t necessarily have to define who you are or shape your future. My son is autistic too… You and I have a LOT in common, girl.

I am in awe (in a very sympathetic and sad way) of what Serenity has endured. God opened that trunk. God directed her in which way to run in the desert. God put that man in her path to pick her up. There is a reason why Serenity is still alive after what she has gone through. I believe we all have a purpose. I'm 71 years young, and I still haven't discovered mine. I was spellbound the entire time I watched this video. I've watched many of these and this is the one that will remain with me. Serenity, should you read this, please know that you have yet to fulfill your purpose. God rescued you from each misfortune for a reason. I trust you will eventually "fulfill His prophecy" in such a way that only you can. I am not a super religious person but I have seen things and have encountered things enough to know there is a higher being than ourselves. I have faith that you will learn what you are to do. Thank you, Serenity, for being so very courageous and brave to tell us your story.
