Several years ago I was invited to add my own input with a friend's and I learned how to use humbrol paints along with thinners to create aging on the buildings, train's, car's ect, as with all models specially with train's you would have pollution that would be everywhere including the housing alongside the tracking, I must say that it was a hobby I enjoyed for about 4 years until the owner passed away and his layout was sold off.

I can only answer for the space and money issue I recommend checking out Budget Model Railways here on KZbin. They mostly stick with OO gauge but they’ve got 009 as well. As their name suggests, they show you how to build layouts on a budget but they also show you how you can shop model railway items on a budget, they have tutorials on scratch building, tips and tricks and they also show you how to build basic layouts that don’t take up that much space

In the 1960's Model railroader magazine had a photo spread on a British railroad layout had fantastic photographs of this 1800's railroad, being an American I used to American model layouts that are crammed with buildings and industries in such tight quarters but when I saw this layout it was a breath of fresh air it had realistic scenery with sparsely placed buildings and beautifully painted backdrops of the rolling countryside with 19th century locomotives and rolling stock slowly moving along the roadbed, I lost that article but I'm wondering if that layout may still be active today it was one of the most beautiful model railroads I've ever seen too bad all photos were in black and white.

The famous apple green Morris - we had a saloon one, then several travellers. Wet mornings? Start with the winding handle!
@lawrencelewis81054 жыл бұрын
@@martinross5521 On this side of the pond, if you spilled a glass of water next to your English car, there is too much moisture for it to run. I have heard that it's the wiring, not the Lucas components. The wiring harnesses were subbed out by Lucas to a contractor and they used pure copper wire which corrodes. I may be buying a 49 MGTC and I plan to rewire it.
@martinross55214 жыл бұрын
Good move to plan a rewire on your MGTC. We used to get damp tracking on any dirt on Lucas electrics. We kept a small hammer in our Morries to tap the fuel pump when it jammed. It wasn’t long before we moved to Peugeots, then a Citroen and finally settled on VWs for build quality and reliability. The MG will be a lot of fun.

Not Nick picking on a wonderful layout, but should the 1948 Olympic Games poster be Empire Games?
@davidt9499Ай бұрын
No, that is an authentic poster and the 1948 Olympics were held in London which had been awarded the 1944 games just before the war. Obviously they didn't happen so London hosted the 1948 games instead. They were known as the "austerity games" and were run on a shoestring using existing venues such as the "Empire Stadium" later "Wembley Stadium". There was no Olympic Village - too expensive to build- so male competitors stayed at RAF Uxbridge and West Drayton, and an Army camp in Richmond Park; female competitors were housed in London college accomodation.
