Where I come from , we used to listen at least two hours to our Pastor, I miss that here in West! Though I am blessed to be in a church that they use to preach for one hour but people start to yawn and look at their watches if the Pastor goes one second over one hour!!!

Well I pray this when I do bible study with my children and wife most churches in my area seem to worship woman and it’s all about how the woman is great the man is wicked so I teach my children we all fall short ALL but Jesus is perfect maybe I’m wrong but my kids and wife know more about the whole bible now than ever since I’ve done this and I glorify Christ in saying this in thanks

Churches around here are more like social groups, and going by myself scares me. What if I pick one that doesn’t belong believe Jesus is the only way. Or judges me becauseI’m divorced and on my own ? Well Christ is coming back for people not buildings, and there are many buildings that used to be churches that are no longer a church. A person can have a personal relationship with God and Christ and they will be with you always. Church represents Christ Bride and Christ' Bride is made up of more than one person as Christ is the Groom. How many of you get together and go to a park or somewhere where others might hear what you are talking about so you can talk to God and Christ'together. Other your own or someone else's Faith what would be your number one question for God if He appeared before you right now, no questions it's God?

Part, parking lot, top of mountain, pretty much any place anywhere anytime can become a True Christ of Christ. Christ, Christ's Gospel and Fellow ship are the three things needed to from a church. Oh it doesn't matter if you get a pentecostal, Baptist and Mormon together as long as you are talking about God Christ and fellowship God and Christ will be there. Food for Thought Anyways

I love me some Pastor Voddie but daggone he is off on this one. I watched this a couple of times just to make sure I understood what he said and where he's coming from. It would have been good if he covered the passage immediately before going into where ever 2 or more are you are gathered because THAT verse asks, "is it the walls that make the church?". And if I recall correctly, unlike an official business or gov't. meeting, church doesn't need a quorum of people in attendance to happen. And in the old testament it is mentioned several times about meditiation alone, away from others. Does that mean God wasn't there? And the topic of binding. That was a commission given by Jesus to the desciples on Mt. Hermon. That has nothing to do w/ church discipline. Paul sets forth a lot of guidance on church discipline also. Pastor Voddie, I love you and your work but either you didn't explain your viewpoint well or it is just off on this one. "If you can't say 'amen' then you better say 'ouch'." This one is an ouch for you.

I think you were missing the point he was making. The problem with this verse is that dead and empty churches use it to justify their lack of growth because of their own laziness but they just keep telling themselves it's ok because as long as there are "2 or 3 gathered in his name" then they have a fine church. That is absolutely not the point Jesus was making and Voddie is pointing that out. Living in the Bible Belt the truth is that there are TONS of mostly empty and dead and dying churches down here and pretty much every single time the doors are open there will be somebody quote this verse and totally miss the point. God wants us in the highways and hedges that his house may be filled. He does not want a bunch of buildings with "2 or 3" in them and the sooner churches figure this out the better off they will be. Voddie was right in what he was saying.

Sad how many take a verse out, isolate it, place another theology to it, put it back in place and change the context. Christian leaders are professionals at this. Binding the strongman takes a while different teaching not related to Matthew 18 and church discipline.

I do not get the issue in regards to the teaching: where 2 or 3 gathering in the name, Jesus recognizing them as a representation of a local church, and their authority to operate. Yes, in the immediate context the function is being described is church discipline. The truth still remains when Jesus concludes the teaching he states where 2 or 3 is in their midst, meaning he is with them in their acting as the church. Jesus clearly was saying this function of the church would be legit even if there were only 2 or 3. So I don't see Voddie's point, other than taking a shot at those who reject the current polity of "church", which varies

This verse is often quoted as a justification for a bunch of dead and empty churches where there is zero evangelistic outreach but they just keep quoting this thinking it justifies them in being an empty and dead church. The point of the verse has nothing to do with that and a misinterpretation of this verse has done a lot of damage to church growth over the years.

@@williamgullett5911 I would also encourage you to listen again to Voddie Baucham's message on Matthew 18:19-20 which he clearly lays out this passage, IN CONTEXT, it is about discipline. In teaching his disciples in this Matthew 18 passage Jesus is making reference to Old Testament law in Deuteronomy 19:15 which states "A single witness shall not rise up against a man on account of any iniquity of any sin which he has committed; on the evidence of two or three witnesses a matter shat be confirmed." There's another reference in Deuteronomy 17:6 that states no one should be put to death on account of one witness, but on the evidence of two or three witnesses. So, clearly in this Matthew 18 passage it is about discipline. So in my response to SPCVICAR3240 I encouraged him to listen again to Voddie's message as SPCVICAR3240 indicated in his post that a believer with the HS makes two, which would make a reader of SPCVICAR3240'S post conclude that one person alone, with the HS as one's witness, can discipline another. That would be false teaching, which I was attempting to discourage in my post to SPCVICAR3240.

If you don’t believe two or more gathered in his name can constitute a gathering under the authority of His name with the presence of His Holy Spirit, what good would fifty, hundreds, thousands do? Were we not warned by the Lord of such? Let he who would be the greatest be the servant of all. My very heart is to serve, not rule, the timid, the weak in faith. The overall theme of this chapter he reads from is forgiving the brother who has sinned, yet I’ve been kicked out of churches for the slightest differences in scriptural understanding. There is no debate to be had, no discussion to calm the controversy, it’s always, “Bow to our authority.” What authority? Have you raised the dead? Where you there at my Baptism? Did you feel the fire? Have you collected all my tears? Did you form me in my Mother’s womb? By the conclusion presented here, I am utterly rejected by God, cast away, never to be redeemed… All because three guys who referenced every book except the Bible couldn’t tolerate having a 10 minute Bible study with me. I believe, If Jesus wasn’t accepted by the religious rulers of His day, what hope is there for His modern day lambs? Is it not so? Did He not warn us of such?

Generally lazy and dead churches quote this verse to justify their empty buildings and act as if they're justified in it because there are "2 or 3 gathered in his name" but he was talking about having witnesses in disciplinary situations faced by the local church. This is in no way an endorsement of dead and empty churches. That's the point Voddie was making.

Matthew 16:19 The word that is used for “bind” (Greek - “DEO”) is the same Greek word that Jesus used when He spoke of binding the strong man (or controlling demon) and spoiling his goods (Matthew 12:29 and Mark 3:27). This binding, then, is actually speaking of spiritual warfare. A key symbolizes authority or power. Whoever has the key has the authority to open or close whatever is locked. Likewise, Jesus gave us the authority to bind demonic powers and loose people from their dominion.

We must live, move, and have our being in Christ Realization, and in turn walk in the Perfect Kingdom of Heaven right here, right now, despite appearances. Christ says to see form as reality is to malpractice you by the judging of that which is not a reality. This is judging you by the appearance of that which is nothingness/non-existent. You are Perfect Spirit in which you deny via the Belief in the Dream of Mortality as Reality....!! Using the human mind to tell God that we know better than he does is the reason we appear to exist as a finite, mortal form. It's Atheism, as is praying to God for anything other than the Grace and Wisdom to be more and more Christed for yourself and your neighbors!! I live, yet not I, Christ Liveth my Life!! Drop the reliance upon any human thought, as human thought is Satan, the son of World Mind Belief. This is the Tempter, tempting you to believe God created mortality, death, disease, etc....
