The one that helped keep me going was "Withdrawals" and "Sober" kept me from calling my guy to feel better. This damn songs gives me the chills every single time, any former addict knows exactly why, this song couldn’t be more real. Especially the line “I pray on my way to the liquor store that they lock the doors”, you get to that point in addiction when you’re literally crying on the way to the dealer hoping their not there while simultaneously knowing you can’t turn around, shits rough man, big up’s to anyone still going through it 🙏🏻

Same here. Can't even say how many times i went through that process myself. It's like I could get a bag of drugs that I do all day everyday without much question but that drive to reup is the most self loathing moment. Just turn around. Nobody is making me do this to myself, I'm not obligated to buy this, you are killing yourself just stop. But I always kept driving there. The only way i could ever quit was when my dealer would disappear. One time he did for ten months and I was completely sober the whole time and i ran into him one day and boom. Its like I was never truly sober or wanted to be and went right back into it like instead of marking my progress, I was just waiting to return to the stuff the whole time. Craziness. I guess what I learned is that when you quit you have to find new things to do that make you happy. Cuz if you're doing the same things feeling the same way, you just romanticize the drug times as if they were better

Great reaction! Nova didn't have a verse, because she didn't struggle as much with addiction like Tom and Brandon did. So she didn't feel like she do a verse. ^.^ Something that sticks out to me, is I'm sure many people think he is talking about the Christian God. I don't think that is true, Tom said when he had had his mental break down, he prayed, he didn't know who heard him, but somebody did. He studies up on many religions, but he doesn't identify with any one religion. I think that's why he says in this song "Can anybody hear me" He isn't praying to a certain God, just whoever is out there do you hear me?

When I was in my 30's my younger sister passed away suddenly...like one minute she's here, and she's gone the next. She was my best friend, the person who knew me best in the world. After that I climbed into a bottle and stayed there for 5 years, going through 5 or more liters of booze every week. I was never your typically alcoholic...I never had uncontrollable cravings or withdrawals if I went days or weeks without a drink, worked and took care of my responsibilities, etc. I would get off work, pick up a bottle on my way home, then sit at home by myself and drink until I passed out. Rise and repeat. It just made it easier for me to think about her from a detached perspective without having to experience the feelings of loss caused by her absence all the time. I could stroll through my memories without it being unbearable...introducing her to songs she hadn't heard and seeing the look of amazement on her face, the same look that had been on my face the first time I heard them...watching generic horror films and laughing like loons...the time she told me that no one at school picked on her or tried to bully her once they found out I was her brother (we had different dads/last names)...pictures of us together when she was little (her a normal looking girlie girl, me a long haired metalhead with tattoos and piercings, our respective styles very much contrasting)...the time when my mother (bless her heart) bought me a birthday cake that she thought had a wrestler on top of it, but it was actually a cake for a bachelorette party with a stripper on it...and my sister sniggering her ass off when my mom brought it out while my friends and I played it off because we didn't want mom to feel bad (I even kept the little "wrestler" for years but eventually lost it in a fire)...meeting her boyfriend for the first and honestly liking him...falling absolutely head over heels when their daughter was born (picture a biker looking madman speedwalking 3 feet behind a 2 year old who is running all over my front yard because I'm worried she might trip and fall and get hurt lol). This went on for 5 years. Then, one day, I didn't want to do it anymore...realizing that I was taking for granted what my sister, and so many others, would likely trade everything they've ever owned for...another day, just one more chance to tell their loved ones how much they mean to them. So I stopped. I didn't have another drink for over 2 years...and when I finally did have another drink, I no longer had the desire to over do it. Well...I'm 46 now, and my niece graduated from high school this past Spring and started college this past Fall...and I no longer need a buffer between myself and my memories, I can simply enjoy them...and that's exactly what she would want. Sorry for the long post, but Tom gets me going sometimes. Wishing everyone peace, love, and good happiness stuff from the mountains of Alabama! Keep rockin' and stay heavy 🤘

Fun fact: Tom made the confessional out of a corner of the clown world set in his backyard!! He said he used like 6 coats of black paint cause the blue and red kept showing lol 😂 he also put stain glass peel and stick decoration on his living room windows to appear as church windows and the illuminated cross was in his bedroom!! Incredible reaction. I could see how powerfully the song gripped you during your first play, and how deeply you were immersed in it to the point that you were silent and focused through the whole song. I completely shared the feeling that you had when Tom sang, "I don't believe anyone would miss me." Personally, I prefer Tom's personal songs like this over his political songs & I know that they really help people which is a beautiful thing! To those of you struggling with addictions, PLEASE keep battling them! You are loved! I lost my best friend of 24 yrs to alcoholism. It's been the most devastating heartbreak of my life! He struggled with alcohol since we were 14. He kept trying to quit, but just couldn't. One night he got drunk & was walking through a construction site when he tripped, hit his head on a rock, & ended up face down in a 3 inch puddle of muddy water. He drowned. He was 37.

nova partied for sure but fighting for sobriety was something she went through differently... supporting someone you care about as they go through it is something in and of itself.. as she did with Sober nova chose to be the support in church too.. sobriety was what the guys faced head on!! when tom was at his worst brandon was the one his mom flew out to go get him and bring him home! they've been best friends for 15+ yrs now

As far as I know, Nova went though a rough patch with too much drinking, but she never was addicted. Therefore she didn't has a verse in Sober and this one. Last year Tom announced that he usually serves apple pie, but since he's not just a rapper, but an artist, he needed to do something else from time to time and was going to serve cherry pie for three songs (which were Church, No Good Bastards and Heart Emoji). Tom always listened to rap and rock (Led Zeppelin, Green Day, etc). With GFBF they did some punk-rock-rap. Therefore I get that he wants to be creative with this part of him, too. If you haven't heard it already, please check out Foul Mouth Wasted by GFBF! I haven't heard much of MGK, because his public persona is as far away from Tom's and his childish beef with Corey Taylor was the last straw for me to not being interested in checking out more of his music (especially since I didn't like what I've heard so far). #HangovergangGermany

Great reaction and good insights. Agree Nova would have sounded good on this, but she didn't join in on this track because unlike Tom and Brandon she never had such severe struggles with (alchohol) addiction like they did and it would not feel sincere. Which is something to respect, the reason the song hits so deep is because they speak from a pain they went trough and quite possibly still struggle with occasionaly which you simply can't fake if you haven't struggled with it yourself.
