You know you have a balanced character when Jr gets upset and mad. Yes, they make fun of him but in the end they're family and will be there for one another. However, seeing him hurt and angry shows the writers dont treat him as a joke 24/7. Just love the balance of humor and tragedy

Let me add another reply regarding Junior. Junior is THE most optimistic child in this family. You (almost) never see him down or angry. He’s also like a third parent to the rest of his siblings. So when they all saw their parents fighting, they all saw what they were hiding from them especially from Junior (the “third” parent) and because they never see Junior mad/sad/angry they immediately knew that this wasn’t nothing and that their parents would eventually divorce (which they didn’t thank God 😭)

I'm so glad they had Ruby and Pops to stop Junior from feeling like it was all his fault. So many kids feel like their parents divorce was their fault and that there was something they could do when it isn't true and they tend to carry that guilt with them for most of their childhood until they're old enough to know better. Selfish and irresponsible parents don't communicate with their children properly, thus allowing the children to wonder and assume and be confused and eventually draw their own conclusions, which are never accurate. Somebody's gotta pay the bills and provide for the kids.

Both have a hard time communicating. I do blame dre more. He has all this baggage that he brings to everything. Bo just kinda ignores his issues without really working through them as a team and she just does her own thing regardless of dre s feelings. @@kellharris2491 What you said is true. However, I always felt that "the black side" of the family was always chosen over everything else. You can't continually make a person feel like her childhood and values are less and expect it to go well! Bow is always made to feel like her white side isn't good enough. This is why she goes her on way in a lot of things: there isn't really any support! My son and I are of mixed descent. For some strange reason people feel it's enough to tell us we're black and to get over ourselves, but don't really give us the tools for navigating between our worlds nor do they accept us for who we actually are. People can't be happy and live their lives how an accepting society expects them to be! Furthermore, I always felt that Dre was a bit jealous of Bow and her achievements. That's why he agreed to having another child as a way to keep her out of her job, so he could be the provider for the family! Being underhanded like that doesn't help the family at all, because people will eventually understand what is happening and feel betrayed!

Divorces are really awful, we want to be so advanced and focused on individual happiness. We are not a singular one; we are a collective us. I was a 37 year old married, pregnant woman , driving to an appointment and “used to be my girl” by the O’Jays came on the radio and I had a literal breakdown. I had to pull over cause I was hysterical. My dad loved the O’Jays, we didn’t go to church on Sundays we listened to the O’Jays. My parents split up when I was 11. I certainly want people to be free to be happy but their is always a price to pay for individual happiness.

This is what happens in a Real Marriage. Sounds corny, but there is joy. There is pain. Sometimes it takes a separation. But when it is Really Real, and you are Serious About Those Vows, you can work it out, Heal, and preserve the Family. Enough with this “cut, run, and start over with someone new”crap.🤨js
