@L.M.O. Жыл бұрын
@margaretwallace15 I' ve noticed in life, more than once, people can mourn harder when they haven' t treated a person very well, and never apologized for that. Then the person passes away. I saw it happen in my own family. I had an adult family member who had butted heads frequently with my dad. After my dad' s passing he couldn' t compose him self the day of the funeral, cried uncontrollably like a child "prior" to the funeral. Now that was hard to watch. When I went up to comfort him, I said, "All is forgiven". He needed to be assured by hearing that. That depth of mourning can possibly be a different kind of pain, as well. Perhaps a person was close to the deceased---or, perhaps they were NOT! I then can see that being more self-guilt, than having been so close to the deceased. This is just what I' ve observed. Now there certainly can be cases where the person is just so deep in mourning. Like say a young child mourning the loss of their parent, or a child who' s lost their sibling. Or a child being very close to a grandparent, than loosing them. I can see it more w/children, than adults. As in life,---there are times people just do not appreciate others enough while they are living, than realize it too late after they pass! I can see where this could be the case w/Burt Reynolds!! "Regrets" & "Guilt".

I may be younger than most here, I was born in '75, but I was fortunate enough to spend my developing years watching television and movies with my parents and my grandmother who would always share how much they adored this person or that one, and I grew up with so much awareness and fondness of their generation. Burt Reynolds was such a high-caliber individual and truly a standout. I can't pick a favorite performance of his. I was too young to remember this moment and understand the gravity of the situation, so seeing this video really filled in gaps of my knowledge regarding Burt and Dinah. I knew enough, however, to recognize how beautiful a moment this was. Seeing someone so sincerely honor someone they love who gave them so much makes me think of those who have touched my life so profoundly but I never got the chance to truly show them the gratitude that is forever in my heart and mind. Dinah sang so beautifully, it was one of those moments that while it's happening, you lose sight of everything else and although the moment has your full attention, it doesn't impact with you until it's over. So many of the commenters here mentioned the talent of the people in those times, to which I reply: Absolutely! It's like stars were stars, individuals whose talents brilliantly shined, rather than being a marketable, manufactured persona. Oh, and who doesn't love Jack Lemmon?! I remember their relationship from the very beginning as I saw them on Dinah's great TV talk show. On one episode she opened the show in her stage kitchen and announced that she was going to share a great recipe. [She was an acknowledged fantastic chef and was the social queen of the Hollywood/Beverly Hills entertainment community.] She began to put the ingredients of the recipe together. When she heard a kitchen cabinet door open she turned around to see what was going on behind her. That door fully opened to see Burt Reynolds crumpled up in a rather small top shelf cabinet. He started to unfold while doing his big Burt laugh. She kept looking at him as he freed himself from the cabinet while looking at her. The electricity between the two of them was crackling and their eyes were now locked on each other. You could see the steam increase between them. On that show they stumbled with words and tried to talk about the recipe but it was obvious that preparing the food was not going to happen. They walked off the stage together and everyone knew they weren't coming back. It was a beautiful reaction to each other! They became a couple immediately and attended and held parties and occasions together. Burt always said that Dinah was a beautiful lady who helped him become adept in social settings and that she was the person who gave him CLASS. She knew everyone in the biz and her connections and natural charm helped him become a better actor, social host, conversationist, and adult man. Their love always remained both deep and electrifying but Burt's desire to have a child of his own became an overarching requirement. He broke up with Dinah and that absolutely shattered her heart. As her health began declining, Burt and Loni became a married couple. Dinah's vigorous, athletic life never fully returned. She did not find another love. As it turned out, Loni was unable to have another child so the couple adopted a son. Burt's old football injuries pain combined with new stunt-related injuries pain and made his life miserable. He did marry again in Florida. In his autobiography Burt wrote that he probably made a wrong decision in leaving Dinah.

@@lynnetrathen4587 I think Burt fell victim to making a big life decision based on only one criteria - a married couple must have and care for a baby the traditional way. Dinah was older than Burt and Loni and some people thought that she would not be up to raising a child when he or she was a teenager. But Dinah was a top flight athlete in tennis and a proponent of good nutrition. It could have been that she didn't want to lead the life of a mom (worried about a teenager, not being as free to do what SHE wanted to do) in her 60's and beyond. From what I have read, Quentin is doing very well in his life

I didn't realize Jack Lemmon was such a phenomenal piano player until saw him in Grumpy Old Men, when he played part of a song he'd written for the movie. However, hearing him play on this show made me even more in awe of his musical talent. As for Burt Reynolds loving Dinah Shore, but wanting to be with someone who could still bare his children, that sounds pretty selfish to me. I was with the love of my life for 17 years. He was 12 years younger than I was. I was just going through menopause, & I realized I couldn't give him any children, so I begged him to leave me & find someone who could give him children. He told me he didn't want children; he wanted to be with me. There are so many children out there that need parents to care for them - orphaned children or children from abusive families. Unfortunately, my soul mate died from an accidental gunshot & we didn't get the chance to adopt. If Burt really loved Dinah, they could have made the lives of lucky children much better.
