We'll cover TESI, Halo Delay and some very cool tubes.

Man, all the pedals. Reminds me of me. I had a homemade plywood pedalboard that took 2 of us to carry. I had to go the digital route with the Axe FX3. I haven't even shopped for pedals or amps in over 3 years. In the end it saved me a fortune.

Yes… and yet there is the journey to consider, lol. What’s a journey of such depth and expanse worth!?!? NOT THAT MUCH!! Who am I kidding? I should have just gone with plug-ins and a nice set of monitors - ha ha. I totally get you though, for example, if that 80’s JCM800 tone is what you want you’d be much better of dropping the $1800 on an old used one rather than trying to recreate “that tone” with todays 20W lunch boxes. A buddy I went to high school still plays out, he was a Mesa guy and owns only Ernie Ball Majesty guitars but these days he plugs his Axe FX into the power amp of his Mesa triple crown… go figure ;-)

I dig your objectivity. Expensive doesn’t always mean better. A lot of the cheap clones are just as great as the originals. Josh Scott (JHS pedals) does some amazing shoot outs of originals vs clones.

You’re right, at least with delay pedals. I found that it’s worth paying a bit more for an overdrive. The super cheap ones are a bit noisier and have “paper tearing” tones… just my opinion. Love Josh and Brian Wampler - realy world stuff. Josh’s video on overdrive types saved me so much time when looking for overdrives

If you move the mic away from the center of the speaker, the tone will soften up a bit. Oh, and midrange is your friend. 🙂
@oldguyjammin97323 ай бұрын
I’m not using “that kind of mic” but rather a USB “full range” one designed mostly for vloggers :-) It’s horrible, lol - I set the gain to almost zero and have it about 2 feet from the speaker.
@bryanh30572 ай бұрын
@@oldguyjammin9732you can still move it off-axis and point it towards the outer edge of the cone. Even with a cheaper mic 👍

Super cool, I just remembered that I saw your review of the Squier Tele a while back. Nice to see you found a kill switch you like better. Are you still liking that guitar? Seems like a great deal for a modern featured Tele.
@oldguyjammin97322 ай бұрын
Yes, still liking the guitar. It’s very stable, and stays in tune really, really well. Gorgeous neck and not too heavy.

Hey OG! Good to see you back. Still shredding the Yngwie?

Yep, oodles and noodles of fun. Not for everyone but I love having it around. Imo it’s tailored to a particular style of music and seems to prefer Marshall style amps over others.

My wife’s birthday hits on the 25th so Friday night we were out at MoonRaker in Cameron Park, Sat morning out to Breakfast and then over to her parents that afternoon for “Meema and Papa Tacos”. Sunday AM we’re over to her Dad’s restaurant for brunch… SO… today has been my first day down so I took two naps, played my guitar really loud, worked out… then took another nap, lol. Have a great summer!

Hi Mr ewert! Do you get paid during summer?
@oldguyjammin97323 ай бұрын
Hey there TacGrave, technically ‘no’ however, teachers can defer a portion of their 10 month pay and have it paid out during the months of June and July, so ‘yes’ lol. Make sense?

i don’t need to drive my mesa mark v with a pedal.
@oldguyjammin97323 ай бұрын
I had the Mark V for a while… you may have me there ;-) The Engl Iron/Fireballs didn’t really need a boost either.
@jupjuck3 ай бұрын
You know boosts are a lot like changing the V1 tube, you get a lot more variation out of an amp that actually takes a boost quite well and might be stuck with what you got if it's a no booster
@nomad100hd3 ай бұрын
@@jupjuck My Mark V takes boosts well, I just don't need a boost. I had a Randall MTS amp with the different tube modules before I bought my Mark V. The Mark V has the sound I wanted then some. Which is why I've keep it for 10yrs and have not wanted anything else.

I've owned the joyo pedal. Its a shitty pedal. I sucked a lot of tone and volume.
@oldguyjammin97323 ай бұрын
I’ll disagree but put out there that maybe you’re running it into the “front of amp” rather than through the effects loop? Effects loops are famous for ‘robbing tone’ but are still better placements for time based effects like chorus, flanger, phaser, delays, etc. I’ve placed all my delays in the same place in my signal chain and NONE have come out as “shitty”. Maybe it as you said, that “you suck a lot of tone and volume” …. Just kidding, typo on your part :-) Rock on dude

@@oldguyjammin9732 and its cool you talk about the pedals, but why don't you demonstrate them?
@oldguyjammin97323 ай бұрын
@@AmbientAutisticGuy - Good question and there are three main reasons, 1) there are LOTS of YTubers out there that demonstrate gear much better than I can 2) I’ve become a bit frustrated with how much of what I hear in the room is lost upon playing back any particular video and 3) over the years I’ve come to appreciate a trusted verbal opinion much more than an audio sound bite.
