Alicia, I need to explain. Dressrosa was 2014-2016ish. One Piece and Shueisha held a GLOBAL Popularity Poll around 2021. Just to put it into perspective. Everyone else was either a Strawhat, a highly important character like Shanks or Ace or recency bias with new characters. And Corazon was gone for years from the story at that point. Oda managed to create a character who is rather small compared to others who dont have much screentime in a story so big like Shanks, that Corazon actually still is THIS beloved even today. He finished 13th on the global poll, right next to Shanks.

It’s no surprise Doflamingo ended up the way he did. Even if you weren’t entirely sympathetic to his childhood, it explains his upbringing which is the main point of a villain backstory. He grew up already influenced by a messed up environment (Marijioa) which clearly warped his mind on how he views the world. I still think Alicia is too hard on his father. Homing while having good intentions was incredibly naive when it came to the expectations of living with the commoners. Doffy’s father most likely wanted to change Doffy’s view on the world but sadly never got a chance to teach him and to live a simple life. It’s actually hard to imagine someone like Homing even came from Marijoa and recognizes himself as a human and wanted his kids to understand that as well. Unfortunately, young Doffy was still used to living in Marijoa and still acted entitled to people who were terribly affected by the Celestial Dragons. From their point of view, what they did to Doflamingo’s family was the once in a lifetime chance to take out their frustrations on Celestial Dragons and when you’ve known nothing but bad things about a group of people, the idea of some being not so bad never crosses your mind. As a result, young Doffy only knew pain living in the commoner world and grew resentment towards his father who unintentionally brought his family to these circumstances. After already killing a family member and being taken in by Trebol, it’s no surprise he turned on Rocinante when he found out he’s been against him. Doflamingo is definitely one of the best if not the best written villain in One Piece.

I understand that people might react differently to trauma, but clearly there was something different in Doflamingo. His parents and brother were born and raised in the same environment and yet they didn't become like him. He was the black sheep of the Donquixote family.

To be fair, Rocinante was younger than Doffy and it’s possible that Homing saw how his oldest was already corrupted and wanted to avoid the same happening to his youngest while also have his oldest see the light.

Imo I still believe Robin’s was worse by a smidge. Law before shit hit the fan had a loving family and friends to be around. After Robin’s mom left she basically had nothing until Saul and the archaeologists (and even they said Robin shouldn’t be getting to deep into history). the threads are just like normal treads... whether they cut you or not when you touch them depends on the tension of the thread and how thin it is... As you may have noticed... the birdcage is getting smaller and smaller... so as the threads get coser together every so often a thread for sure has to wrap around the one next to it so that you can still see through it... otherwise it would stop being a cage and turn into a basket right... so every few threads there should be some that are thicker and therefore unable to cut skin as easily... @Nagadirchan really?😳 I really thought the empathy one can have for Law and Corazon can only create disgust for Doffy that cancels out one's admiration for him. To be honest with you, I always hated Doffy, since I saw his arrogant furry ass 1st time, which deepened when he cut Oars Jr's leg. Now of course I know what happens and I feel nothing for him, but before, I hated his guts and I thought nobody can feel admiration for Law and Doffy after this story from this flasback unfolds, much less if you like Corazon too who is his polar opposite. Law is my 5th favorite character of the show, after Nico Robin, Kuma, Zoro and another who has the best OST of the anime. We all know who he is but can't say because he's not here yet.😁

Honestly if it was not for the fact that Brook spent 50 years mired in grief and excess lonely ness this would of topped it. For saddest. What scene do I cry tears the most at... That remains the death of Merry Go and her send off. Feels to much like actual loss for me. Ace death is second to that. and third is Nami's wish for aid in Arlong Park. Memory of those F'n recap episodes robs the Robin back story and I want to live of its emotional depth because I am still pissed at that placement. Place that BS just before Merry Go funeral at sea and I would of been good with it; would of felt like giving Merry more life span. They really coulda used the good luck of the Marines happening to pick up another boy at the same time Doffy was looking for Law back when Law was looking for the marines to begin with. I guess that kind of good luck is only allowed after some incredibly bad luck first in storytelling. Poor Law was trying to suppress his crying but it just keeps coming from a heart he long thought had gone cold and died. It turns out he stilled had one loved one left.
