For me, this is what makes Luffy a unique protagonist than other anime protagonist. When other protagonist get into a similar situation they power-up but with Luffy he broke down and cry. It makes Luffy so relatable.

The way he broke down and cry is really relatable.. you can really feel how helpless and upset and the anguish he feels upon his own helplessness.. with him banging his head on the ground and all.. such a great scene.

Heat of the moment, all the Straw Hats know is they're being taken out one by one and there's nothing they can do about it. Watching now, it's obvious Kuma's helping them as you say, but the first time I watched this, I was almost as shaken as Luffy. Seeing him like this, helpless and broken, that shit still hurts.

I always chuckle when I hear a reactor to this who thinks Kuma is sending them all to the same place. It’s a coping mechanism I understand, but cmon. It would totally devalue the emotion of everything that happened in this episode if they were all just magically together next episode. The entire thing was about splitting them up, because they needed that time apart.
