Up to this point Luffy had been using his armament haki in the "form of Ryuou" to fight kaido... and it was kind of working... luffy was landing more than a few punches now... but they had been "soft blows" they did hurt... but they were just not enough... but after receiving Kaido's blows more than a few times luffy finally caught on to an important fact... Kaido using Armament haki to coat his attacks was not the big deal... he actually has been using CONQUEROR's haki too... so now that luffy knows that he is thinking back to the lessons he has learned so far and is now using his CONQUERORS to do the same thing... Hence luffy's words, flashbacks and change of his haki's "color"...

The last episode the colors represents luffy's growing Haki, which grows under extreme situasuion. Armament Haki has advanced version which is Ryou or Adcanded armament, that is what Luffy was using previously and what he learned at Wano. However don't mistake it this Haki. The one Luffy unlocked was conqueror's Haki coating around your body. It is alot more powerful than Ryou which was shallow against Kaido though skin. That's why conqueror's coating can damage him, it packs more punch. That's a type of Haki only few strong people can use, even if you have conquerors. Only a select few will have the ability to coat it around your fists or sword. That's why Roger and Whitebeard almost destroyed an Island without even touching, or Shanks and whitebeard splitting the sky. Because conqeuros Haki is a manifestation of your determination and spirit. Luffy has grown significantly during wano. Sorry for the long essay, but if you read the manga and understand the power system, many of the things will make sense.

@@eduardjc37 yes maybe the wording is a bit off, but still ryou is armament haki in Wano and it's a step above the armament we have seen previously. Letting your Haki flow to your opponent is a more potent version than simply just coating your fist with your haki. Observation haki also has an advanced application which Katakuri was a master of. I would not put ryou and normal armament on the same level. Ryou focuses more on the flow of your haki, in Wano they are mostly swordsman so this application of Haki seems to be more common. The coating of your fist/strengthning with Haki seems to be a more basic application while a step above would be ryou allowing that haki to flow to a target leading it to internally self destruct. Luffy was training all in the first act to master his flow of Haki and this more advanced version. Ryou is definitely more potent than normal haki we have seen before, it was luffys tool to beat Kaido at first, however as we saw it was still to weak for Kaidos skin. So conqueror's Haki was again a step above that. Luffy got so many power ups during Wano that it was almost hard to notice all of it.

I'm sure you already figured this out since you caught up to the anime (just not on youtube), but in case you didn't, Luffy basically discovers that one can infuse themselves with Conqueror's haki, something like armament haki but much stronger, it is not Ryou. It is the advanced form of conqueror's, and when Zoro damaged Kaido in his Asura form, he unconsciously did it as well, but to a much lower degree than Luffy in those last scenes.

It's both ryuou and Conqueror's. His arm still has the black coating. He's essentially using internal damage ryuou Haki (3rd stage armament) + Conqueror's Haki infusion to amplify said internal damage. The combination of the 2 seems to be the reason for the no contact clash.

In wano they did put a different color for each Haki, Color of Observation has a Red light in the eyes like with Katakuri, Color of Armament had a purple/violet color, and then Conqueror's Haki has now a Yellow/Gold color, thats why in this chapter the "aura" is Golden, because in Wano they change how they represented the Haki. Now Luffy can use Conqueror's Haki like he was using Advanced Armament Haki (Ryuo is the term that the people of Wano use refering to "Haki", like when in Skypea they called Mantra at the Observation Haki). This allows him to finally use it in a combat, before that the Conqueror's Haki only worked for k.o weaker people and to do a strong Clash.

Conqueror Haki Coating was something that was teased back in the Oden Flashback. When Whitebeard and Roger Clashed, their attacks didn't touch and a singularity formed between their weapons, at the time we had no idea why, until this episode/chapter came out when Kaido and Luffy's attack does the same.

I'm sure you already figured this out, but Kaido isn't seeing Oden in Luffy. He's commenting about how it doesn't matter that Luffy figured out that Kaido was coating his attacks in Conqueror's Haki, because Luffy has one foot in the grave and is about to die by his hand. Also, Luffy and Kaido clashing without touching is because they're both using conqueror's haki to coat their attacks. Just like when Roger clashed with WB, Shanks clashed with WB, Big Mom clashed with Kaido. The implication is that Luffy has fully made the jump. He is an emperor-level fighter, now. He learned how to mold and concentrate his armament haki into a singular point of impact for defense/offense with the Ryou training, and is now applying those concepts to his usage of conqueror's haki.

Can't wait till you see these moments in the manga! While the animation is amazing, it's just a lot cleaner in the manga. The combined yonko attack isn't just a big ball that turns into a laser beam & you can actually SEE Luffy's sandal block and uppercut. I'm sure you don't mind, so it's ok, but especially 1028 really went overboard with the auras imo.
