Kaido does take damage. He just has incredible endurance. So does Luffy. You have to wear them both down. You can fight through pain and discomfort. Both if these fighters are exhausted, but the adrenaline is high and they both have incredible pain tolerance. Luffy is just more expressive. He'll gasp, scream, say, "ow", and describe how he is feeling during a fight. Kaido doesn't, but that doesn't mean he isn't feeling it. He's the strongest creature in the world for a reason.

Not only can you hit logia types with that but you can also reduce the damage that you are taking form a devil fruit when you have strong aaah haki. Because most one piece fans care more about the story and characters more than the fight. This is why episode 1015 is regarded by a lot the best one piece episode an it only had a punch at the end. So little moments like the paper lanterns and hyogoro speech will always get priority over the actual fight and that’s what like about one piece.

Thing is I’ve seen A LOT of one piece FANS on twitter say that this episode is equal to or almost as good as 1015 (deemed basically the best ep of one piece in the fandom). You’re gonna think it’s a drag if you just go in blind and jump to these gear 5 episodes for action. I’ve seen so many reactions to this episode from fans and they loved even the scenes not focusing on the fight. Especially saying the light lantern scene near the end and the old man hyogoro’s dialogue/ flashbacks hit really hard. That served to show the culmination of this whole arc and did so in a way with amazing direction and music. Yes it’s cool that we had the 3 minutes of pure animation sakuga in the lightning, but that’s more of a bonus to us. As you’ve seen people mention before, the worldbuilding in One Piece as a whole goes very deep. Yes Kaido is the strongest creature in the world and luffy needs to defeat him but the underlying main purpose is the suffering the samurai have endured in Wano (a closed off country to the world) for 20 years after Kaido and Orochi unfairly killed the previous shogun Oden. Momonosuke is the son and the blue haired lady is his daughter. Of course they are going to have prevalent moments throughout the arc to have their get back. You just wouldn’t understand. As for you saying kaido should be taking more damage, if you’ve been watching since the beginning of wano you would know how much progress luffy has shown. This is the same Kaido who jumped off of a sky island because he wanted to kill himself and then just got up without any scratches. The same guy who the narrator said on land sea and air always bet on kaido in a 1v1. The same Kaido who fought the 9v1 with the scabbards multiple times (and they’re strong), but still came out barely harmed. The same kaido who then fought luffy and his gang and still mostly whooped their asses. Yes luffy is broken now but kaido always has been. Devil fruit powers aren’t the only thing to take into consideration, Kaido’s haki was always above luffy’s. Luffy has future sight (kaido as well), but he still could barely dodge his attacks a while ago because he would see the future but kaido was still too fast for him. Only a couple episodes ago did luffy figure out he could coat his body in color of conquerors and fully manage to utilize his ryou. You say this episode dragged but it adapted the manga 1:1 and actually added MORE fight scenes. For the lightning part, the manga quite literally only showed luffy throwing ONE lightning strike and then kaido dodging it and hitting luffy in the head and switching to his dragon form with the slicing attacks. Instead we got a whole 3 minute sequence of luffy going batshit crazy in the anime dodging in between lightning bolts and looking even more broken than ever before. I just think you guys shouldn’t be harsh to judge on One Piece when you guys use the “it’s too long” excuse to fully watch it. Of course u can have your own opinions but you comparing One Piece to Bleach is funny to me. Bleach is basically ACTION the anime, pure fight constantly but no deep story to it. One Piece is obviously going to deviate from the main fight to explore the backstory, characters, the setting, etc. Ask most One Piece fans and they’ll say their favorite aspect of the series is either the lore or the worldbuilding. Also you got to remember One Piece has significantly WAY more characters than Bleach (1000+ named). Even the least relevant side characters play a part so it’s no surprise we shift focus to others. You need to give props to Oda for having 9 main characters plus many important allies and antagonists to focus on in one arc (not to mention the flashback characters), and he still manages to put things together. I understand One Piece is a huge commitment but it feels as though you take things at surface value.

i’m also one of those who think this ep 1074 almost as good as ep 1015. thing is, 1015 is usually regarded as the best episode but what is the episode consisted of? the first half of the episode is pure flashback with ace and yamato and there are a bunch of compiled flashbacks before luffy lands one punch on kaido and the episode ends. it’s perfect though. the whole episode was beautifully animated, pacing, direction, everything! this goes to show you don’t need an action focused episode to be regarded as the best. even 957 and 958 is also among the top episodes in the whole series for the fandom. luffy or the strawhats don’t appear at all during it, instead what happens is in 957- the whole episode is shifting to a bunch of islands in the world and showing reactions to the newspapers for the warlord abolishment. it didn’t feel dragged and being a fan of the series it was a pivotal point. how about 958? the whole episode are the marines just reading bounty posters. i remember when that chapter dropped it was trending like crazy, the community exploded because of bounty poster reveals of characters we’ve been waiting for. this is how good oda is at worldbuilding. as for the plot when the oden backstory dropped in the manga (and anime), the community was in shambles again. mind you the flashback was over 10 chapters long and even longer in the anime but it was so well done, many people call it the best flashback in the series and this also happens in WANO. having good characters in a series is important. not only did the flashback explore what we wanted to see of oden and momonosuke but also the red scabbards, kaido, orochi, and of course whitebeard, roger, and their crews. it’s nonsensical to compare a series like this to bleach when they focus plainly on action for the most part. crazy how people call the oden flashback one of the best parts of wano besides gear 5 and they’re right. not saying bleach is bad for not being as in depth but it’s two totally different situations which is why i’m saying you can’t compare.

The scenes of whats going on isnt a problem to most fans because we’re all attached to those characters. We’ve known them for years and their stories are ALSO being wrapped up in this arc. Thus, we don’t care for them being in the episode or them showcasing them. We need their conclusions and this is the arc where their stories are going to finally end. Plus, you guys are kinda thinking of this in the mindset of binge watchers. When you’re watching week after week for years most people literally FORGET details that happened so the flashbacks are needed if the scene calls for it. Those flashbacks you saw were things that happened like 2 years ago in the anime so utilizing them in these scenes in what is the final arc where these characters are involved is needed for most people Granted, the manga doesn’t focus hard on these flashbacks, at best they are a single panel if Oda ever tries to callback to a scene, so its mainly a Toei thing.

Honestly it just comes down to personal preferences, if you're just here for the gear 5th luffy vs kaido action then most likely you're not going to care about the other side stories and flashbacks for that side story, however if you're someone that's invested in all the stories involving every character in wano (which like you said most one piece fans are) then you're also going to enjoy these episodes that touches on all of them simultaneously, I'm on the side of the majority but at the end of day it doesn't really matter enjoy the show the way you want to, I do think you're crazy for putting bleach over naruto and one piece though XD

In terms of Overall. One Piece is probably number one. But currently right now as Bleach and One piece are running together. Bleach just more entertaining. Naruto fell off a lil bit after Shippuden (and I read the manga too)

The thing is he isnt warping reality. Gear 5 lets him use his rubber ability more freely and lets him turn what he wants into rubber. Any Devil Fruit similar to Luffy’s can do this. You need more than a strong devil fruit to beat someone. Thats what Kaido was talking about during the fight. One Piece has something called Haki which can enhance your attacks, enhance your defense, enhance your weapons, or let you see into the future. Everyone has Haki not everyone knows how to utilize it. Even if you CAN use Haki, you still need to train in order to advance it to further levels. Kaido even states during this episode that Gol D Roger didn’t have a devil fruit and was able to conquer the world with Haki alone. Haki can also negate devil fruit abilities depending on how much you are able to put out.Kaido is literally called “The Worlds Strongest Creature”. He is THE strongest pirate in the world. He is tanking all of those hits because he is just that tough and his Haki is absurd.

what i can say, one piece isnt only about luffy its a big world we used to see each different character wether its a main or secondary or even nobodies. for most other shonen its all about main or specially the mc. that why one piece have a big community supporting all what u dont like coz we were here from start. your opinion is valid, we not saying one piece anime is face paced anime, unlike the manga, the anime does try to animate 1 chapter per episode, so it will be always slow paced for most of the time that how one piece could survive all this time without having much filler and without catching to the manga also theses late months the manga been taking alot of pauses so we understand that too.

one reason for kaidos durability is haki and conquerors haki. he was saying that during the fight saying roger (the previous and only pirate king) didnt have a devil fruit but was that strong with just his haki, and that a devil fruit power can never take over the world. plus kaido also in his hybrid form with dragon scales for defense when he already is unkillable in his normal form. so even though luffy awakened his fruit, someone with stronger haki can triumph them 99% of the time. luffys devil fruit power is different though, and he is better with haki as the fight went on overall. also kaido is the strongest creature in the verse. Id say hes top 2, bro fought 11 people overall in this war. it was a 5 v 2 before the climax with luffy vs kaido rn

Nobody loves jumping out of fights to other insignificant scenes but it's just Toei doing Toei stuff to drag it out. This episode was actually good in comparison to some in the past in terms of action vs flashback ratio. As for Luffy and Kaido, at that point Kaido was somewhere in the top 3 strongest characters in One Piece and Luffy was doing damage bit by bit. Also to me it seemed like Luffy was tanking the damage pretty good in this form also, nothing seemed to bother him that much.

Another thing in terms of not taking damage there was a character earlier not sure if you ever seen but known as white beard he took a ridiculous amount of damage and was still up in fighting. Not to mention his age was getting to him and he was deathly ill or something at the time. Hundreds of sword wounds dozens of bullet wounds several cannonball injuries two holes in the gut half his head damaged and he was still up and fighting so durability in one piece is pretty weird

I dont mind it because considering we have been in wano for so long. And the war is th3 last chance for the people of wano that have been slaves an experimented on can finaly be free. Like the only chance they have for a normal living ia that actual festival that is happening right now. As for the momonosuke thing, aint nobody going to tell me that you as a child have the balls and the mentality to see your father get boiled and shot down and then to only just come to the conclusion thst the only damm solution is to go to the future to save your country. Your going with your bodyguarda 20 years into the future with no knowledge of actually knowing if youll make it or not. Leaving your mom and sister behind to boot. Of course if a tough decision for an 8 year old as strong as his father was he isnt his father he is still learning his way still. I dont mind these type of story building moment, it gives the place and event deph. Not many anime csn make you feel connected like that. Take bleach for example in terms of fight, they got that shit down. But you dont feel connected with any of them, maybe just the captain of the gorosei, but not evrn thr main characters that surroud ichigo do that much or are relevant.

I understand that the fight should have been well a fight from the beginning but here's the thing. Luffy's ability has a will of its own all zoan do and this particular fruit is the nika the sun god, God of liberation, The one who brings smiles and joy to everyone around them. Honestly that does not sound like a fighter to me, And since the devil fruit has a will of its own and it hasn't been awakened in 800 years by anyone I'm pretty sure it enjoyed being free for the first time in a very long time So of course it probably took over more than Luffy was in control at the beginning so more having fun joking around but as the fight continued Luffy started gaining better control and better understanding how to use his new abilities to fight and that's what you see during the buildup. Another thing to remember is that a lot of the gear fifth stuff is inspired by Tom and Jerry. Taking that in account sure a lot of the stuff could be ended instantly but that never happens in those old cartoons there extended and prolonged until a final conclusion So another thing to keep in mind.

Reading some of these comments are honestly embarrassing to look at. to start off, EVERYONE has their own preferences when it comes to anime and anime genres. Of course, in general, one piece is the best of the best when it comes to animanga, and i can say, not as a one piece fan but as an overall fan of anime series, is above all else-- and im not the type of person to bring up statistics in topics like this, but it's a clear statement to make just by looking at its success throughout the world. Everyone has different tastes and it's absolutely fine for someone to like one over the other- if it's in a polite manner and not just dissing everything about the other anime-. For instance, yes, one piece might be a GREAT anime, but it might not appeal to those who have interest in romance anime (not saying one piece doesnt have good romance but yk 😭 talking about the classic highschool romance types of series!!), thus they could say that they like _____ better than one piece and it should be completely fine for them to say that. It hurts to read comments where one piece fans attack others for not liking one piece the best, it's so simple to understand that it all come downs to PREFERENCE. Anyone can like something over one piece, and you have to accept it. I do joke around with naruto fans though, but im honestly not mad about it at all unless theyre being like the people i suggested before, people who cant let someone like something better and have to diss the show for no reason. im one piece OBSESSED, but i dont attack others for liking something better than it. The scenes are drawn out because the anime is close to the manga so they have to draw out something, also you're coming from the perspective of Bleach fans where fights are usually very one sided, someone flash steps and blood spurts out of the others shoulder, bleach has basically no plot, the fights carry the show and there is nothing wrong with that, so I see where you're coming from.

don't forget about the Haki. Roger can beat anyone or any pirates with strong devil fruits only with his Haki. I belive kaido's conqueror Haki attacks is still little bit stronger than luffys consider kaido already mastered this technic for a long time, but Luffy has stronger devil fruit to balance the gap. Also dont forget that Luffy still learn his Awakening gear5 abilities and advanced conq during this fight. #sorryformybadenglish 😅

Tbh toei was just true to the manga this episode everything they did was following the flow of the manga its just that in the manga the flashbacks are like a page or even a couple of panels and its just that in anime its not that quick with the dialogue

@@animestateofmind NO cause the most powerful characters in one piece dont even have devil fruit powers to begin with, shanks, mihawk, garp, roger, rayleigh, none of these dudes have a devil fruit powers. Later on this arc you're gonna see shanks cook an admiral with a broken devil fruit without even touching him. Thats how broken haki is an ability. At some point luffy is gonna fight blackbeard whose devil fruit power literally cancels out other devil users powers. Luffy's ability to warp reality wont mean anything to that dude, and yet that guy refuses to fight shanks, matter of fact he's avading shanks cause he knows he cant beat him. in the end haki trumps all which *spoiler* is the real reason why luffy ends up beating kaido cause his haki is stronger. Dont get me wrong devil fruit powers are still important cause at the end of the day you can overuse your haki and ultimately run out of it, like luffy does in gear 4 then you're essentially useless, but the top top tears of this verse are all high level haki users, thats why for instance luffy isnt able anymore to change the physical appearance of kaido cause kaido is not allowing that to happen anymore with his own haki. Like i get it you guys dont really follow one piece, you're just casual fans so you might notice these also oda isnt really explicit about it, but thats what essentially happening

Nah we Kno haki is op. Conquerors (shanks used it against that fish demon rescuing Luffy), using it with your body part etc. #2 stopped kizaru using his kaki (first vivid moment of that before they gave it a visual representation). We appreciate the responses tho 🥳
