That's right lol. Luffy was moved to take action against Arlong simply because he saw Nami cry. This shows that Luffy has a strong sense of empathy and compassion, and he is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. It is one of the things that makes him such a great leader and role model. Nami had been living in fear of Arlong for many years, and she had been forced to work for him in order to protect her friends and family. When Luffy saw her cry, he knew that she had been suffering for too long. He decided that he had to do something to help her, even if it meant putting himself in danger. This act of kindness and compassion is one of the defining moments of One Piece. It shows that Luffy is a hero who is willing to fight for what is right, and it is an inspiration to fans all over the world.

this is it right here fellas. the "help me"/walk to arlong park episode is what many fans will call "the point of no return" and is TO THIS DAY still considered one of the best moments in the history of OP congratulations, youre officially straw hats now 🎉 (also fun fact, the scene of the 4 guys actually walking to arlong park was not in the manga, it's an anime only scene that the animation studio decided to include to help pad time. obviously that decision worked out pretty well LMAO)

Something else I want to point out about all of this. Luffy has NO idea about what's going on with Nami and this island. He completely skipped her backstory. He hasn't seen the Arlong pirates do ANYTHING, and he has no idea about how much pain, suffering, and imminent danger of death that Nami and the villagers have suffered and are currently suffering. No, the only thing that our captain knows is that that sonofabitch Arlong made our navigator, Nami, cry, and now she's asking for our help. And that's enough for him to get the boys and go take care of business.

The hat…. Think about this. The build up of Luffy putting the hat on Nami happened in Orange Town. Oda explored multiple types of treasure and what it means. The treasure of Chochu, the dog. This treasure was not only the store and the dog food but more so honoring the memory of the person he loved. And he would die to protect it. Nami’s treasure and Buggy’s treasure are the same physically. However Nami’s treasure carry’s different weight than Buggy’s treasure as you just saw. Her gold to her represents her village. Her people. And their freedom. And she would die to get that treasure and it’s something she would never think of giving up, even loan. Not one penny. And then Luffy, in her deepest and darkest moment, when everything was lost, gave her his treasure. The one thing she wouldn’t give up for anyone, not even friends. And now that he’s entrusted his treasure to her, he will fight. Because she has become a part of Luffy’s treasure by wearing that hat. He will protect her. Another W reaction from you all. I've watched this show and read the manga more times that I can count. The scene with the hat always makes me cry. 15 years after I first watched it. This is what I always say to people scared to start the beast that is One Piece, Just watch or read until Arlong Park, if that shit don't hit you you can drop it. Just get to Arlong Park. Watch One Pace instead of the actual show it doesn't matter. Oda can literally destroy you and build you back up with 3 pictures, he's really Goda and it is so touching to see new people get their first taste.

Well... I actually encourage people to watch at least until Water 7. That was the arc that got me and when I bacame a fan of One Piece. Yes I liked everything before that, including the Arlong Park storyline, but I wasn't a fan like I was for other anime like Naruto or Dragon Ball at the time. Water 7 is just sooo good that became my number one anime. This is why I push for people to watch at least until Water seven. If that arc doesn't get you... Then is hard anything beyond that will. (Or is it? One Piece just keeps getting better and better so probably there is always hope for those willing to persist)

@@Davidrsq water 7 and Enies Lobby was when I realized One Piece is my favorite anime. I literally started One Piece, cuz the girl I was simping for way back in 2017, was into it. I was the biggest Narutard at the time, thought ain't no way was One Piece better than Naruto. But yknow, the Robin moment, won't elaborate cuz spoilers, but anyway, i remember at that moment, I paused, sat back into my couch and went through the 5 stages of grief and realized I liked One Piece better than Naruto.

this arc shows well what kind of person Luffy is. absolutely anyone in his place would immediately rush to help Nami as soon as he found out that she was in trouble, but Luffy let Nami solve all her problems by HERSELF, it was clear from him that he really wanted to help and was always nearby, asked many times if she needed help and getting another refusal left, not even I'm thinking of breaking into her personal life. he also wasn't interested in her story, he just needed to know if she needed help and who to kick ass, that's all he needed to know. having received the consent, he immediately went to investigate with a shout analyzing this scene, I think we can come to the conclusion that everyone should adhere to this position "I won't get into your life, but I'm always there just ask." it shows how wise luffy is and yes he is a real captain

What I love about the Crew is that Luffy is so casual and Zoro was just sleeping on the ground during the whole backstory. Luffy is the kind of person who once you're his friend, he can and will do anything in his power to help you, provided you ask for help. He's not the kind of person who just waltzes in and fixes all your problems, he knows something is up with Nami and he knows something is happening but if she doesn't want to be saved by him, he won't move. This is a recurring theme in the future. A little side note is that Luffy only remembers the names of his close friends/crew. If you're an acquaintance he will have some weird nickname for you until you cross the line to becoming either a close friend or crew. This is why Luffy is so casual about everything, this is why he's wandering around wasting time. He's already decided Nami is his Navigator, he's decided there's no one else in the world whom he would rather sail with, and as long as she's in trouble he's going to stick around. He's waiting until she realizes she can rely on him the same way that he relies on her to navigate for him. Now with Zoro bro, he understands how impulsive and hard-headed Luffy is. At this point, he knows Luffy is determined to have Nami on his crew and he knows he will have to take action soon. So rather than sweat the small details, he opts to rest and recover as much as possible for the upcoming fight he knows will happen. Luffy made his decision, Zoro will follow to the best of his abilities, neither needs to know Nami's backstory in order to fight for her.

Welcome to the real beginning of what one piece is. This is one of the most iconic moments in the series with the walk to Arlington park. Buckle up cause its gonna be more intense form here. Also on a separate not this is one of the first major times that displays luffys true nature that separates him from all other MCs in shounen. Luffy is NOT a “hero”. Whenever luffy gets involved or rescues someone or a does them a favor, it is almost always preceded by them asking for luffy specifically. This is quite different than many other series as he does not help others for goodness sake, unless it is for a friend he doesn’t care, like this whole time he could’ve laid out the along pirates but he didn’t care and let them be until this moment when Nami asked for help. This is also monumental as it is showcasing luffys ability to understand the struggles of those around him despite being unaware of 99% of the build up. Just look back and you can see that he literally left when Nojico told them about the village so luffys whole involvement stems from him seeing nami in distress and her asking for him to help, he at that moment understood that all the lies she told others and herself came crumbling down and she knew that she cant do anything on her own and needed outside help from a friend. And then, ONLY THEN does luffy step in to take on Arlington. This will be repeated to different degrees with many of the new friends and people they encounter and displays the person luffy is. He will move heaven and earth to help his friends and god help whoever is in his way.
