A few things The opinion on Pedro's sacrifice can go either way in my experience with the fandom. I personally felt really touched by it, and I even tho I felt we didn't have that much time with the character I feel like Carrot's reaction (who's been with us for just as long, but has taken a more active role in the arc) really sells it In regards to the Vinsmoke siblings and "betraying Germa" I have no idea what you're on about lol Also, when it comes to Lola being that important from her inception, I feel like we got some nice ingredients with her introduction and Oda just cooked really well with that. With Lola we had already established that 1) She's got a big family 2) Her mom is a pirate. Since Oda tends to always bring things back around those are some nice building blocks. Maybe Oda didn't have the whole idea, but definefly layed some stuff out that he eventually turned into something Edit: Y'all in the comments gotta chill about Katakuri, he's deveolped troughout the end of the arc. But yeah, thinking that he is to Big Mom what Zoro/Marco/Rayleigh are to Luffy/WB/Roger makes it a bit easier to understand why he's that strong

I actually really liked Pedro's suicide because of 2 main reasons.; 1. It's a beautiful narrative - He wanted to be sth special his entire life but simply lacked the talent and unfortunate with age (too young for Roger, too Old for Luffy). But every person has the ability to have their moment and this was his moment. The Straw Hats escaping so they could change the world. 2. From the SH point of view they always believe they can save anyone as long as they survive. Pedro's death made it real like hey in the New World we can die and no-one will care and the 1st time someone actually didn't believe in their strength

Lola and her parentage are 100% planned foreshadowing. The wedding/marriage plot tie of Thriller Bark (the arcs mirror each other), the vivre card is needed for Marineford, the shadows are similar to the use of souls in WCI, and this probably isn't obvious when reading manga but she has pink hair, most notable women with pink hair in OP are princesses of a sort, daughters of rulers.

In the anime you feel more of Pedro's loss through Carrot and how she feels about it. It will carry on through the story all the way through Wano but Carrot is really the foundation for that emotional thread.

Pedro was HUGE! I just don't think the proper context has been revealed yet. Pedro sacrifices himself because he sees the Straw Hats as being a prophesized ending to how shitty the world has become. This is the whole "new dawn" he was remembering and thinking of in his last moments. Also gotta say i cant believe we still havent talked about yhe fact Katakuri can SEE THE FUTURE!

Pedro's sacrifice was more about motivation and showing exactly how important it is the Strawhats go on. Pedro was basically telling us this isn't only a goofy pirate story anymore, so much more than we imagined is going to happen soon and the Strawhats need to make it to the future because their time has yet to come. But you couldn't just have a random do that job so since Carrot was there that was supposed to be the emotional weight that we're supposed to truly feel attached to it

Katakuri isn't "some random guy on Big Mom's team", he's literally the most poweful person Big Mom has on her crew besides Big Mom herself. To put things in perspective, Big Mom is a Yonko, along with Backbeard, Kaido, and Shanks, so the World Government considers her approximately the same level of threat as them, and Whitebeard before his death. Meaning that Katakuri, as her mst powerful subordinate, should be comparable to someone like Marco the Phoenix, who was powerful enough to go 1v1 againt people like Kizaru during Marinefore. So Katakuri being that strong compared to Luffy makes sense, as the next step in the pwer scale should be Marine Admirals, as they've proven they're above the Yonko commaders loke Ave and Marco, then above them the other Yonko, as proven by a severely weakened and near death Whitebeard being able to do serious damage to Akainu.

I know its already beat to death in the comments but Katakuri is a commander in the Big Mom crew. The commanders are essentially the top guys in any Yonko crew. So they are the biggest deal after the captain. So its not necessarily a random guy. If Luffy was strong enough to go toe to toe with Big mom or others of her caliber without struggle the story to date wouldnt have been as fun. Especially when he had it hard against Doffy to an extent and Doffy was scared af about Kaido who is an equivalent to Big Mom

The thing with Pudding is much more sad than funny when you think about it. Pudding associates emotional vulnerability with danger. Her default reaction to feeling emotionally vulnerable is to get vicious and violent to protect herself. She’s so damaged that she is literally incapable of accepting genuine care and love.

I love Pudding's story. It's very well defined racism. The purpose of racism is to divide to keep the general populace from obtaining liberation. It's hinted at in this arc that Pudding's race of people experienced a genocide. It's 100% because of that third eye that would allow her to read the poneglyphs. That makes her incredibly important for world liberation, as awakening that eye would allow her to reveal just how vile the world government truly is. That means most of the people on Totto Land Archipelago, who are their due to problems that the government is the root of, literally are reliant on the very thing they are disgusted with for liberation. Most aren't aware, and Big Mom doesn't understand or care and finds what she knows is necessary for her to become King of the Pirates to be disgusting. She sees the eye as a bizarre means to an end. Without the world government having to say much of anything that we know of, people are fighting against their own liberation. Racism has become so deeply ingrained into the system that people will do it on their own, and that reflects the real world. Few understand the benefits of land back or reparations, so when they really hate a particular group, they don't understand they fight against themselves. I know it sounds like a stretch to think Oda did this intentionally, but considering the end game of the story, I don't see a world in which this wasn't intentional. He's great at writing racism, and this is my favorite example.

I mean as a caught up Manga reader I spent several months with Pedro ^^ It obviously didnt hit as hard as Ace's death for example but i mean come on.. who should have died to leave an intense impression? I did not want any of the Strawhats to die tho xD Also I think with his tribute he just adds to the loyalty of the mink tribe in the alliance.. But his reading is so surface that i get frustrated when he misses something obvious. I prefer reviews like Merphy or Mom Piece on the Drawk Show. I've always struggled with the idea of Yonko Commanders being stronger than Warlords, but this is just how it works in OP unfortunately, with the exception of Mihawk and maybe one other (spoiler so won't say who) Katakuri is crazy powerful, definitely significantly more powerful than Jinbei at this point.

I actually really hate Katakuri as a character I feel he's a whole nothing burger but in his fight with Luffy I felt it was a good narrative. He's better than Luffy in every way except in self-confidence for all his strength he always hid who he was because he wanted to follow the crowd, Luffy has always blazed his own path and just overcomes through sheer guts.
