Thanks for the inspiration. Most of my fav fiction books are old classics like pride and prejudice or Oliver Twist. I did read an epic poem by Tennyson that I loved called The Princess. It’s a story within a very long poem with songs included as well as a certain amount of humor. I wish someone would make it into a musical cuz it would lend itself very well to that. At least in my imagination it was musical comedy with a little action/adventure. As well as romance
@ArdentMichelle13 күн бұрын
welcome 😁 I LOVED the Pride and Prejudice movie. I bet the book is amazing. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check out Oliver Twist.
@kellyjohnson361713 күн бұрын
@ what I love about these books is the British wry humor. Especially of all the dickens novels, Oliver Twist has tons of humor. All Jane Austen novels have great humor. Emma, persuasion, Mansfield park. Highly recommend. I’ve read them multiple times over my life because I wore out my pride and prejudice paper back so ended up finding a hard cover Austen anthology at a thrift store decades ago and I’ve read it through many times. Also anything by mark twain is great. A yankee in king Arthur’s court is fantastic. His short stories are genius too. Speaking of short stories, I have an anthology of O Henry stories that are great. All have his signature twist ending. Very entertaining

I just saw in another comment you are safe from the fires, I’ve been wondering about you this past week. So glad you are ok. We had a crippling ice storm this past week, ice coating everything, power out for thousands, impassable roads, and to tell you the truth I was getting kinda whiny about the whole thing… and then California started burning and it made me ashamed of myself. Never too old to be humbled and think and pray for others. I gave my son Atomic Habits for Christmas! I want to get a copy for myself, I’m proof there is always room for improvement. Your food looked great! I’ve actually made the Piccadilo dish before, and yes the green olives are crucial 😂 If you are looking for a fictional series that will keep you busy reading for many months, look into the Outlander series. Have a great week, stay safe!
@ArdentMichelle13 күн бұрын
I've just added the Outlander to my list. Thanks for that. 😁 I remember watching a video where another KZbinr was talking about all the books she read this year, and I felt myself thinking, I wish I could do that, that must be so luxurious to have the time to read so much. But then, I thought, of course I can find time to read, even if it's 15 minutes here and 15 minutes there..... and the Atomic Habits book has helped me with that. For example, I want to start practicing my Spanish on the drive home from work. I still need to get a CD for that, but it's 30 minutes of time that I found for something I want to do. I might be able to download a free one to my Libby app to use on my phone. That would be a huge bonus. Anyway...hope you have a great week too and thanks for the well wishes 💜
@abunchahooey13 күн бұрын
@ That is an awesome way to spend a 30 minute drive home! I read every night in bed before lights out, and have since I was a young teenager. Very seldom do I read during the day, but I can’t fathom not reading at night. Looks like I’ll be reading Atomic Habits pretty soon. 😊

Hi Michelle, You know, mushrooms are not a vegetable. They are a fungus. And I don't like fungus. 😅 To me, mushrooms taste like dirt. I have tried tasting dirt as a child. So I know what dirt tastes like. But if that soup had something besides mushrooms, I might love it. I like cabbage, noodles, carrots, broth. I would have to think of a substitute. Your Picadillo, on the other hand, looked delicious. I would eat it either way. What is weird is that while I don't like chicken as in the actual meat, I don't mind chicken bouillon or broth. My taste buds are weird. And to be fair, my not eating poultry is purely psychological. Although enough time has elapsed that I no longer like the taste. I had you in mind when I made vegetable soup with about 1/4 cup of cooked ground beef added. The first time was yummy, the second time. I accidentally added to much cayenne because I couldn't find my chili powder. So I added more water to tame the heat, which also tamed the flavor😂. Oh well, live and learn. Our library in Washington doesn't have as many as the services that yours has. Well, maybe in Seattle, they do. I live in a small town. Near a lot bigger small town.

I'm halfway through 4 hrs, don't think the paper version would take me that long. Also, I have trouble just sitting and listening to something without falling asleep, I always want to get up and do something else which distracts my focus. I can probably do my dishes while I listen to some of it today. I have always said though that one book I would like to reread through audiobook is Trevor Noah's autobiography.
