Found you off Michigan rocks. I used to find pretty rocks in the gravel streets of Jackson Michigan and gave them to my bus driver when I was a little kid. I am nearly 60 now and still love to find pretty rocks. Love your channel and your joy to find these little gems our Creator made. He is quite an artist!

I also have enjoyed looking for special beach rocks ever since I was a little boy, and I am 68 now!! I think when you get the "bug" early in life like we did, it stays with you and brings you back to happy childhood "memories" even though they are not specific. In other words, one is brought back to a "feeling." Whenever I go "Rock Hawking" along a beach, in my mind, this gray-haired guy feels like a little kid again. And, BTW, my "Rock Hawk" club of 1, which I named myself, of course has the motto, "Leave no stone unturned!!" Lastly, I love your spiritual reference. I often think similar thoughts when "hawking" a beach, especially if it is getting close to sunset and the tide is also getting low. Simply a perfect time to be a kid again!!

Thanks Rob! It means a lot to hear that from you. I’ll trade you some Agates for some Petoskey stones anytime!
@MichiganRocks
@MichiganRocks Жыл бұрын
@@rodenbergrocks Do you realize how common Petoskey Stones are? That seems like a silly trade for you, but I guess Petoskey Stones seem cool if you have no chance of finding any near you. I'm planning a trip in your direction for early May. Would you consider taking me to your beach? I could hand deliver some Petoskeys to you.
@rodenbergrocks
@rodenbergrocks Жыл бұрын
Well you do seem to find quite a few of them in your videos… but I also find quite a few agates sometimes so I thought the rarity may have been similar 😂 I would love to take you up to that beach and do some rock hunting. Let me know what days you are thinking in May and we can make a trip on up to it. I would love a fair trade of agates for some petoskeys 👍🏻

Beauties ! May I make a suggestion? ...Its about the stones that are frozen to the ground. Take along a thermos of hot water & dribble a little on the stone that is frozen. It should come free a lot easier & you won't have to worry about chipping or scarring the agate. I'm 78 yrs old & I have been picking up Agates since I was a kid. I grew up in S. Dak. and have lived in Iowa since 1967. I find a few every year. Mind you, not as many as you do but I can't get out as often but I still love doing it & appreciate being able to go along with you and see your finds. HAPPY HUNTING !

Thank you for the wonderful comment and advice. Winters can be long up here and I’m always looking for better ways to get to some rocks when they are frozen so that may be something I need to utilize in the future! Thanks for sharing and it’s really cool to hear how long the hobby has stuck around with you :) Happy Hunting!!

I haven’t hunted too far up the shore to be honest. Maybe an hour north from Duluth, but many of those finds have been pure luck 😂 I think if you do it enough, you get lucky every once in a while! Best of luck hunting this month!

There are a lot of public access beaches that are great for rock hunting along the north shore :) Once I collect them, depends on the size but some I keep and some I make into magnets and art and sell on Etsy :)
