My mother chiseled a 1/2 lb laker out of a stone wall. It's the front of my collection.

I made one of these about a month ago. I added a 3 inch fence of wire mesh (aka hardware cloth) around the base to prevent scratching the plexiglass on rocks. I also added a ring of lighting around the rim, which worked well on carpeting at home, but is barely noticeable in the water when the sun is out. So far I used it twice, neither time having great luck (of course, before it was used I imagined it would be a game-changer), but finding a few things. I'll be taking it out again soon hopefully. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Looks like a Jagate. The banding is pretty intense.

Might be a Monochromatic Paint Matrix. Any bands?
@kirbycraft13025 ай бұрын
Ahh it also might be a Stromatoparoid. I've never heard of them before, but I have found a couple of pieces here north of the cities. A lot of them are being found this season for some reason.
@kirbycraft13025 ай бұрын
So here's the thing. I believe that you found a small piece of a mineral that I found just a few years ago, and someone else found a piece a little larger than yours just this season too. Is it soft and powdery feeling?
@kirbycraft13025 ай бұрын
Man Rod I've been wondering when you were posting again. I miss your videos, refreshingly organic. Hard to find the BOOTS ON THE GROUND types these days. If we weren't living in the cities this season I would probably try it myself, but I'm sure time is the same issue for you. With all of the rain I expected a number of videos with a lot of BIG AGATES. I hope you post a few more before the season is over this year. I enjoyed this one. TY

Thanks for the video! oh nooo you lost one 🤨 its all good I had a Skip an Atom in view and when I reached the big wave came of course and bye bye rock..🙁 I was just out rockhounding Lake Superior by Two Hearted River 2 days ago...t-shirt long sleeve shirt sweatshirt hoodie a hat and a wool peacoat the weather said 58 and nice but by the big lake it was 42 and a 15-20 mph wind brr. Never underestimate this big Lake for whoever visits.

Glad to see you back with new videos! That porphyry from the beginning definitely would have found its way to my vehicle. Sorry you lost the first agate - but the one at the end made up for it! Thanks for sharing!

Where did you get access to the lake? What do you do with them once collected?
@rodenbergrocks7 ай бұрын
There are a lot of public access beaches that are great for rock hunting along the north shore :) Once I collect them, depends on the size but some I keep and some I make into magnets and art and sell on Etsy :)

@@rodenbergrocks If you ever find some stones that you don't recognize, don't throw them away or leave them behind. take them home! I made this mistake a few times myself at the beginning until I realized what kind of stones i left behind. I was so disappointed! If the stones are too big, take at least a small part with you. A hammer and chisel are part of the basic equipment. just my 2 cents sorry, have nice day✌😊
