This again reminds me of a previous comment I made about how lies and half truths spread fast and how these episodes are inspiring me to help me overcome difficuties in the world lately. Your comment about the croud being exceptionally guilible sadly isn't as true as you think. Yes there were a few VERY guilable people like that jerk in the croud who believe baseless lies and rumors. But I have seen 1st hand that it is very disterbing how even smart normal people will buy into half truths and once they get just partial evidence they can permantly dig into this as definative proof! It is obvious to us that Saitama was trying to give credit to the heroes who ACTUALLY risked their lives. But the moment Saitama said that the other heroes wore the monster down so much that finishing it off was easy it was sadly very accurate how the public believed that Saitama was a fraud. There are comarable lies in real life and over the past few years I was shocked at how smart people who I respect bought into those lies. To make matters worse many people subconsciously would be to embaressed to admit if they were wrong about something big so they subconsciously fight hard with denial/ ignorance refusing to get convinced they were wrong so they don't need to be ashamed. Before I realized this I think I was a little more guilable than I am now; but don't think I was ever this easily manipulated however no one ever realizes if they are. One other thing Saitama does have a little bit of an ego because the only reason he joined the Hero Association in the 1st place was because he was upset in a previous episode that no one knew who he was. Saitama is a good man who was willing to put that ego aside but despite all the praise Mumen Rider was getting I think he was the one with no ego especially since he is the only 1 who put ignorance aside and gave Saitama the benifit of the doubt that he was real, he choose to stay class C because he openly admited he wasn't good enough for B, and he was will to risk his life on a battle he knew would probably kill him. To this day I can't help but repeat a comment I saw long ago: Saitama is the hero we all want to be. Mumen Rider is the hero we all should be!

I love that this episode showed Santana wasn't a one-dimensional character. He realizes that the other heroes risked their lives and were getting crapped on for it, and he wanted to make sure the people viewed them as real heroes. Dude legit is a hero for the fun of it.

7:20 I love how in one punch man, the effects of combat are always felt in what happens to the environment. It makes everything feel so spectacular and powerful. Saitama punching away the rain too is such a cool detail that adds to the impact of the punch (and give a cool reason to actually have the rain stop in the scene)

Mumen Rider was Class C rank 1 and OPM was Class C rank 2 just before the Deep Sea king incident. After Saitama defeated DSK, he moved to Class C Rank 1 (thus making Mumen Class C Rank 2). Saitama was then given the choice of promotion to Class B which he too. So now Saitama is Class B and Mumen became Class C rank 1 again.

Mumen Rider also "Licecnseless Rider" rides a bicycle because he lost his license after running too many lights (or speeding too much, I forget). Mumen was the C Class Rank 1, Saitama passed him, then moved to the bottom of B Rank. My guess is Mumen chose not to go to B rank, seeing the limit of himself at the time, that is why he was rank 1 for a long time. This is true with B and A, the top of those categories seem to choose to stay there rather than move up (Not really a spoiler).

Mumen rider is a hero of "heart". He might have all the basically of any human with barely any ability to be a "hero". However with the heart of gold to do daily deeds without a care to personal safety is a hero by heart. In some case's the highest of heroes may not even show up while Mumen will be trying to get there. Saitama is a hero because he just didn't have the ability to care about the daily grind. He acted and became a hero because it added spice to life. He knows it's not a life of all rewards. Some times to be a real hero you got to take the heat off of people. Even at the cost of being hated. With words he even saved a worthless troll from being mobbed by a crowd. A hero worth more than most that even a hero of the heart can really admire.

How can those people don't see the how obvious the author basically telling us that Saitama is the embodiment of "hero". And even if you still want to include that "risking life" criteria, Saitama was constantly risking his life to fight monsters when he was still weak. And he did all that without taking any credit or recognition unlike Mumen.

interesting fact: while Mumen Rider is entitled to being promoted to Class-B, he choses to stay in C for two reasons: number one is that he knows his limits, Class-B is where heroes start to get called in to deal with shit that is legit dangerous and while Mumen Rider does show up to fight high level threats anyway, he knows he doesn't belong. number two is that him staying at the top of Class-C prevents weaker heroes from advancing to Class-B and getting themselves into dangerous situations. this is why he is cool with Saitama being promoted past him and making it to Class-B.

That troll in the crowd is such a jackass. He's one of those people that picks one position and twists everything to make it fit his narrative in opposition to obvious evidence to the contrary. People like that can be pretty good at getting some people on their side. In this case, since Saitama won so easily, the other heroes must have been worthless, but conveniently ignoring the massive amount of force and general destruction that refutes that position pretty clearly. The crowd is stressed and disturbed at the time which makes them far too easy to string along. OPM is such a great manga and anime (esp. the first season. People crapped on the 2nd season but it wasn't bad, it just didn't have the high standards of the first season is all, IMO).

A little bit spoilery, but it doesn't appear in the Anime. I actually like Sweet Mask. He's the only one trying to hold the higher ranked heroes to any kind of standard. He stays in Class A Rank 1 to prevent anyone not worthy from moving up to Class S, and he criticizes Rank S when they goof off. He holds Saitama in high regard, considering him to be the ultimate, true hero (exactly as you said about him here, he has no ego). Despite being "Sweet Mask," he's not fake.

It's crazy how most people overlook other heroes efforts even tho they were still affraid and hesitate to stand up defend the civilian, they were in the worst conditions. Not to mention if it wasn't for Genos to sacrificed himself, that little girl would've been a pudle in front of her mother. All bc Mumen was flashy with his action. As for your comment about every threat so far being world ending. No Carnage Kabuto and the Deep Sea King were the only 2 threats we have seen so far that would even come close to world ending. Sure we have seen some things that could easily have destroyed cities like that meteor and the big slow dumb giant but it was clearly stated that Metal Knight's remote control operator was safe just because he was in a different city. Also we have seen a couple of class A heroes but very few class S. Deep Sea King was probably the strongest so far and the lowest ranking class S heroes could hold there own so any one of them could probably have beaten any previous opponent.

Nah, DSK was far below Carnage Kabuto or the "Titan" from the first ep. And the meteor was straight up a potential natural disaster. Its a freakin giant meteor! DSK was actually one of the weakest threat in season 1. He was just demon lvl.

I love this episode. Saitama contrasted with Mumen RIder is super cool. One is basically the typical hero incarnate - but has no power. His struggle is one of fighting even with no hope of winning. On the other hand is Saitama. Who doesnt struggle at all, physically. But he does do something truly heroic and selfless. Whereas Mumen Rider spiritually encapsulates the heroic ideal, but struggles with regards to sheer power, the reverse is true for Saitama. And both meet their struggles well. And Saitama is right. If all those heroes had gone down a bit faster, or hadnt been there, or had run away, the Deep Sea King would have massacred all those people before he showed up. So none of it was in vain, regardless of who landed the killing blow.

Mumen Rider is one of the only real heroes of One Punch Man. He knows he has almost 0% chance of winning, but he fight all the same to protect the people, because that's what heroes do.
