Garou didn't use the kid,when Garou blocked all the bullets from death gatling,he was actually defending the kid,he could have easily moved away from the line of fire but instead he blocked all attacks from touching the kid despite the fact that it actually damaged garou instead

1. Amai mask sure is cocky but he is extremely powerful as well. Current level Garou would be a cakewalk for amai mask. He is easily in top 10 hero list. 2. So amai mask has no big feats compared to garou who faced: saitama, metal bat, bang, watchdogman, genos, class A heroes, and also obliterated tank top master. keep in mind most of the heroes he faced was when he was recovering from injury and on the edge of dying. Theres no comparisson, this garou is above amai mask. Maybe in the future who knows, amai mask ends up being a demigod, but till this day that didnt happened. but on the other hand if we talk about garou you know how powerful can garou be.

When he told the hero there was a kid inside it wasn't to "use" him but so that he doesn't fire towards him and injures or even worse kills him. That's why after the attack he basically deflected all of the bullets away from the little cabin.

I held out for a while, but I now concur with the consensus here. Read the manga. You get just as much sakuga from the manga panels as from the show, and so many characters get fleshed out in really cool ways that it's nice having the extra time to absorb it all that you get from a reading pace.

To be honest the first time I watched it, I was really mad because of the change of studios and that pulled me off from enjoying the second season. Saw this comment after posting my own, so quickly: one of the reasons that Season 2 feels like it falls short is because Season 1 received contributions (many free) from a lot of different animators and studios who were interested in the project, whereas Season 2 is done mostly, if not entirely, by one studio. Season 1 enjoyed a ton of variation in styles as a result, which is great, but it also set the bar super high. No one studio is likely able to match what was done with Season 1.

The thing about Garou that is so often forgotten or not even mentioned is his Character of Development/Improvement. It is actually the whole Reason why he is about to become a "Threat" for Saitama. Garou gets his Ass kicked quite regularly, but he ALWAYS gets back up and learns a Trick or two from his Defeat. He picks up on all the fighting Styles and weird Techniques (like the Dog S-Class Hero) and he becomes stronger with each of his Fights. His Character Concept is also similar to Saitama, in that Garou has no defined Ceiling on his Power. He gets stronger with every Encounter, and his IRON Will allows him to get up every single time. Most People just love his OST and like the Concept of a "good Guy" gone evil and slowly fighting his way towards Saitama, while Garou is actually so much more ! Him basically rooting for the Underdog as a Victim himself, while his Conviction drove him to the Point of no Return he has reached now is such a real Story almost anyone can relate to. His Relationship with the Kid serves as a beautiful reminder why Garou can't really become the full fledged Monster he aspires to be...Yet he dives deeper into Darkness with each Episode we get of him, putting his very Humanity on the Line each time. I'd also like to point out that OPM only had rather Faceless or strorywise insignificant Villains so far. Evil looking Monsters or Aliens coming out of nowhere and posing very little threat to our beloved caped Baldy, yet Garou has been set up for quite a while now, slowly gaining Strengh and fighting small Battles every now and then. We've seen him encounter Saitama before, so we know he is quite a lot of Battles away from actually standing a Chance - but Garou is still a PRIME Example of an Anime Villain "done right", because he's not just Evil, but has quite a complex Motivation and Backstory that we as Viewers can't really hate :D Garou is just gonna get better from here, and so is the Rest of this Show xD It's one of those Gems, that gains Quality over it's Duration :)

I'm sure people have mentioned that the animation studio was changed for the second season. One part that a lot of people miss, though, is that the studio that did Season 1 wasn't doing it alone. They received contributions from numerous other studios/animators that both cut down on the costs and also provided a myriad of different interesting styles coalescing in the same season. My understanding is that Season 1 was almost like a passion project for the broader animation community in Japan. Unfortunately, animators can't always gift free time towards another studio's project; they need to support themselves and focus on the work they have before them. This meant that the studio animating Season 2 really needed to stand on its own. As a result, we don't really get the same variety of animation, and the whole thing is a little underwhelming compared to the first season as a result. All of the fights remain gorgeous, however, even if they're a lot more consistent in style as compared to Season 1.

garou saved the kid life, he said not to shoot to the guy not using the kid as a shield, but to warn him that if he starts shooting he will kill a kid since the guy with the gun was aiming straight to the kid behind garou and was super hot headed not thinking straight. garou could have just dodged that and i dont think he know he could have blocked it at that moment but he decided to stand there deflecting every bullet away from the kid risking his life, all this while he was poisoned, seeing all blurry, being beaten up by all those previous heroes, and even before this fight he was pretty much done for full of injuries from fighting metal bat (who almost killed garou) and man dog (who garou barelly managed to escape from) and this also while being hit by saitama 2 times and still garou decided to tank all of the bullets to save the kid

A lot of people missed the fact that Garou's hair turned red because of the blood (the animation didn't make that clear either). It's just a detail but I'm glad you didn't missed it. Just for clarity, Garou wasn't using the kid beyond looking at his magazine - he genuinely tried to warn Death Gatling that there was a kid in the shed, and then proceeded to block bullets to save him even though he had no idea if it would work. The point is to try and show us as the viewer, that though Garou is a bad guy, trying to be a monster and all, he still has things he cares about; he's still human, and not irredeemable. He's a kid who was bullied and went down the wrong path

That transition was odd because the animation didn't give us a proper presentation to Garou's changing, in the manga it's better, when it first came out I didn't understand what the animators did there, but in the next season they will probably recap it with a better animation, they will show more what that means. Unfortunately the adaptation of this scene they ruined it, it's very odd, they changes and you don't get to see... in the manga something happens on him, if I say more it's a spoiler...
