Glad you were able to take advantage of the HPB 20% off sale. I had suspected that you made it up there when I saw that the Marvel Spotlight # 32 was gone from the case (I’d say it’s a 7.0, so it’s worth about $170). I also would’ve bet money that you had bought the four copies of 1st appearance of Omega Red, but I guess that was another flipper. Hearing about the “restored” copy of ASM # 193 in the case now makes me weary of HPB case books. I actually almost bought a Wonder Woman Vol. 2 # 1 out of the case because the spine was flawless, but before I checked out I noticed that the lower right corner was folded over, and then I noticed more flaws after I took it out of the bag to see if the fold was color breaking. Their random boxes are great for back issue diving, but now I’m going to think twice before buying anything out of the case. Shockingly, West Coast Avengers # 45 is still a $75 book in NM, which is odd considering how much the price has dropped on all the other Vision keys after the Disney+ hype fizzled out. Guessing that it’s at least an 8.0, it’s still a $60 book, but I think the price guides may be wrong on this one since I’ve been seeing this same issue in stores a lot lately selling for much less. In fact, I recently bought one at a Record Exchange for around $15. ASM # 365 is one of those books I don’t understand why it’s as valuable as it is. A few pages from Spider-Man 2099 # 1 were included as promotion for the book, and people count that as the first appearance of Miguel O’Hara. I’d further wager that his actual first appearance in Spider-Man 2099 # 1 had a lower print run than ASM # 365, and yet it still commands the higher value at $50 for NM even though it was languishing in discount bins ten years ago and you were lucky to give them away. Again, the Spider-Man 2099 hype has cool off a bit, so I don’t see this one being able to still command FMV prices unless it’s ultra-high grade. And you’ve no doubt sold enough Lethal Protector # 1 that you know its value by heart. ; ) Since MacFarlane ASM issues have been your bread and butter from the start of the challenge, you know exactly what you are doing there. Will the price of submitting the books to CGC/cleaning, cleaning, pressing, and shipping be deducted from the Hulk account after you’ve sent them in for grading? The big danger in flipping G.I. Joe Volume 1 keys is to make sure that you don’t accidentally buy a reprint. G.I. Joe # 21, for example, has a 2nd and 3rd printing, and unlike other Joe reprints the cover prices are exactly the same so there’s no way to tell the difference just by looking at the cover. I’m assuming that, since you inspected the book out of the bag before you bought it, that you checked the indicia to confirm that it was a 1st printing. Even so, I think this may be your biggest gamble of the whole challenge since you paid FMV for the book itself, so you basically HAVE to get the 9.8 in order for this to be profitable. Anything less, and the money you have to sink into submitting the book is going to make it a loss. Given that this is a book from 1984, newsstand books were still being printed at a higher number than direct editions, so a newsie is only going to command a higher value if the potential buyer doesn’t know that. Even if everything goes exactly your way, CGC has lost a lot of good will with their customer base over the past year and many of them have either stopped buying slabs, stopped submitting books, or are in a holding pattern as they wait to see if PSA ends up being a better alternative. I’m sure you were at the last Carol and John’s sale and saw firsthand that they still can’t get rid of the CGC collection they bought a month or so ago even after marking them down to 75% off. Please forgive my frankness, but after seeing Mint-Hunter waste thousands upon thousands of dollars in resubmitting books in the hopes of 9.8s that never come his way while chasing a phantom profit, I’d hate to see you fall down that same rabbit hole. Anyway, good video, and best of luck in your continued quest! Looking forward to the ComicPalooza video!

The grading fees will be deducted from the budget, as well as prescreen rejection fees. It only around $22 a book and $9 if rejected. We will be fine.

Relatively new to "Slabs". Is there a reason why you want to get the comics you showed graded? I mostly look at auctions to get my comics, and many times, un-slabbed comics that are in the exact same grade as slabbed comics usually end in a higher sale price? Do you think people do this so they can clean/press/whatever themselves, and then get it graded?? *Example:* Personally, if there is a book I really wanted (that I haven't owned before), like a Marvel Spotlight #5 that was slabbed at 7.0 for $2,000 at a store, and an Un-Slabbed 7.0 right next to it for $2,300; I would spend the extra $300 to get the book un-slabbed. Maybe I am in the minority though. 😅

When you slab a book, it goes up in value, since you are able to pinpoint a value towards it. This makes it easier for resellers and collectors to make their moneys worth of the book and know what they are getting themselves into. The slabs will also let you know if any restoration or missing parts are in the book. This way when you buy a slabbed book you don’t have to gamble on whether the book may have been missing something or had some sort of restoration towards it.

Also, for the example, it is widespread around the comic collecting world that every book can go be worth more after a “clean and press.” Sometimes this is true, but it just depends on the defects towards the book. That owner must have raised the price on that book based off of this “clean and press” magic.

@@Kid-Comics Makes perfect sense. I just wonder why so many people pay more for the un-slabbed ones on the "my comics" auctions? Hope you get your #181 soon!
@basementcomics4u2 ай бұрын
I do not know why they pay more, I wouldn't. I usually always buy unslabbed for as cheap as I can, then grade them to increase value. For example, I got a roughly 6.0ish Strange Adventures 205 raw for $250 recently. Going to send it in to get graded, if it does get a 6.0 it will be valued around $600

@@basementcomics4u That a great deal! Maybe MyComicsShop would be a good place to bid on slabs then. 😃 Have a great weekend!

If you're gonna grade 90s books you need GPA because those books aren't worth what you think they are. 😂😂
