I do agree that an AR-10 is a great choice for hunting and home defence. But the ammo cost more. So that's why I choose 5.56

Big game how big? A lot of bear? 338 win mag. Coyotes to say elk? Are you going to handload? 257 Weatherby. Black bear the top down to fox? 6mm Remington Want a self defense and hunting? Ar10 243 , 338 federal or 358w Unless you can find one of the few ar in 243/ 25 wssm.

It also fits into the intermediate range and factory ammo options for hunting stink. That said, I just checked prices and they seem to have come back down a bit on at least basic examples. It may be time for me to fix my mistake from back in the day when I didn't buy a crate to use as a coffee table for a couple hundred bucks.

@@BulletsNBrass My SKS will never fail me, even with crappy ammo. 7.62 is a great functional round, and the rifle is milled. I have other rifles, including what you mentioned, but for one choice it is SKS for me.
