Or I can tell you down here that there's a switch inside that will detect if someone opens the sensor. It alerts you on your phone that the tamper sensor has been triggered.

If the alarm is armed in home or away mode it will trigger the alarm when a door sensor or motion sensor is tampered with, the sensor doesn't even have to be "monitored in home mode" it will trigger the alarm either way

I have a question for you, do you know if it's possible to hard wire other door contacts to the Ring sensor? When you opened your Ring sensor(I couldn't tell), did you see an option to add wire to link other contacts?

Since they are easy to open, I would say that they're pretty hackable, but I don't know if you could wire them up to make it work with an electrical break. I think it uses a magnetic field change to detect the opening/closing state. You could probably take them apart and put them inside something else (the door, the door jamb, etc.) to make it a cleaner installation.

i would love to know that as well. I have so many windows, that my current ADP system uses one sensor for every side by side window. They have just wired them to external magnet thingies. If i can do it with the ring sensors, instead of buying 25 sensors, then i'll switch to the system today!.

@@gouyad As far as I can tell, there's no easy way to retrofit your existing system to use your sensors, but Ring for everything else. It's not a bad idea, if people want to switch to Ring without buying a lot of new equipment, but it's probably something pretty specialized. 25 Sensors sounds like a lot!

Hey I've got a question. Does the door sensors chime also come out of the keypad or only the base station?

Only the base station. I tried both plugged and unplugged. I think that'd be a great thing to add though.

It can also come out of the keypad if you have the option enabled. Yes, you can disable chimes for individual keypads.

How do you reset the tamper alert status? I'm yet to find a reset button on these sensors.

I just closed it back up, and it worked fine. You have to replace the battery eventually, so closing it should reset it.

I accidentally open the sensor and now it says “tampered” on the app and it’s no longer working on the sliding door (no sounds when I open the door). Do you know how to reset this? I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks.

Maybe you just have to close it back up carefully. If you put the cover on upside down, it may not press the tamper sensor properly.

No, but because there are a few different chime sounds, you could pick a different one per door.

Not sure what you mean, but when you close it back up, the sensor will reset and the alert will go off again the next time it's tampered with.

This isnt new or special. Basic zwave systems use the feature to detect tamper

I'm not a Zwave expert, so I was surprised! It's a neat feature, and I'm glad it exists. I know the old system that was installed in my house back in the 80s doesn't have anything like this.
