My family is from Colombia. It isn't unusual to see aunt and uncles, nephews and nieces, cousins etc living in the same house. Individualistic socities tend to have problems with loneliness.

yes that is true. i think the problem is in our society ess. since the 1970's is pepole are not willing to compromise and sacrifice. pepole want this lifestyle of multi. gen familys but they allso want to retain there full 100% indapendence. I think even in Multi. gen households a certin level of privacy for induvidual family mem. should be maintained ess. for the younger ones but you can not expect full 100% privacy and freedom ither.

This was pretty common when I was young. It was nice for the married couple to live with parents- plenty of help with the little ones. The kids were close to the grandparents.

There's nothing wrong with family living together in the same house. There are even cultures that are set to be that way. This having your own apartment thing is a western thing.

America catches on to the fact that they can't afford the luxury of individual living anymore because rent is astronomical and everyone is exhausted from working themselves to death. ⬅️ There, fixed it for you.

that is true the only downside to multi gen. households is that there is a Lack of privacy and indapendace. It would def. be a Problem for young gay Persons who mabe do not live in a accepting family to find a mate but yes you are correct. familys acctully end up wealthyer anyway and after so much incom is saved the younger couples can branch out and buy a home near by in many cases .

What do you mean catching on? This was normal in America until our grandparents sold the multi generational acreage to go live in the suburbs.... im glad people are coming back to it, but this wording is definitely off. This is NORMAL.

These homes cost one half a million dollars. Who can play the mortage with the taxes. This will never be a realtity for most americans.

well it allready is a reality but the prob. is that many as you pointed out can not afford to buy a Virtual Manshion for there family. Many familys are crounded often into 3-4 bed houses. Bec. living in this country has becom impossable and our country was given a bad Model by giving us the Nucler family and household ideal . Befor the 1950's a vast majority of Ameicans ess. from the 1700's - the 1880's lived in multi generational households . then the 1950s came and that was ok. but the instutions and circumstances that made the 1950's household and family possablr collaped very fast and are never comeing back and we have beenleft over the last 45-50 years trying to figure out how to cope and find a new way of living. In reality this NEW way of living is not new at all its very old fashioned.

Even in South Asian culture the son continues to live in the family home after marriage. Even if there is more then one son he would also live in same house with his wife. One big family.

Ummm this way of living has been the norm for pretty much evry culture for thousends of years. Only in recent times 1950 - 1965. with the Nuclear family home with jobs being more available and life being easy was the Nuclear family possable but only in that time in history. the only downside for multi gen living is lack of Privacy and a certin levil of conroll and indapendinc over there envoirment . For Example for gay kids and relitives, and older family members who mabe do not want to relise there kids and grandkids have sex and need to do that in the home to find a perspective mate.to decorating, gardening. haveing a Private space of your own is difficult but this close way of living was commen even in the united states until about 1940's - 1950's

I live in Hawaii and although our home is not designed for a multigenerational home I grew up in one. We have a 5 bedroom home, my grandparents used to live in the first floor with 2 rooms and a bathroom. My parents had the masters bedroom upstairs with its own bathroom inside and me and my sister had our own rooms upstairs on the other corner of the master bedroom with one bathroom which we shared. My grandparents and father passed away and my sister moved to another state for work. It’s just me and my mother with a dog in a 5 bedroom home. Although there is no divisions set up it’s spacious enough to give each other the necessary boundaries and space.
