Our family has a mini apartment complex where each of my aunts and uncles are neighbors to my parents. Though that is not technically living together, it still makes me feel a lot better about living away from my parents as they won't be lonely at least and will have someone with them in case of emergency. Love it

Go to Accra, Ghana. 20-30 people live in giant compound houses. The elderly get a roof over their head, the sick get care, and everyone watches out for everyone else.

This is beautiful! I also think this kind of family setting is working for them because both women are sisters ( family)! Though the guys ain’t from the same parents, men get along pretty great! I strongly believe things might have Bn different if the guys were brothers with the women from different parents!

Families in America really need to do this. I didn't grow up around family so now I don't have a connection to my cousins.

Not crazy at all. This is how I grew up in Jamaica. Moving here (The US) with just Me, my mom and my younger sister has been the hardest thing to get used to. Big families are amazing.

I love this, it is common to live like this in many parts of the world, in Greece our family live in flats on top of each other so almost the same, grandmas on bottom for easy access. I wish this was more common so many lonely people especially the elders would have a cozy home filled with love rather than a lonely elder home.
@keitafoxy74286 жыл бұрын
This is not unusual. Many cultures live this way. I guess what’s unique is that they designed a house around this way of living. But many homes have joint families.

I and my husband also bought a home with one of my sisters and her husband. We planned to flip it and take the money to buy our own homes, but the arrangement worked so well for us we've been together for 21 years. We each have 5 children, and with so much adult supervision we have also been able to foster as well. This family listed many of the benefits of dual family living. You have to be willing to give up a little autonomy, but having the support right at home is wonderful. If you're interested in this living arrangement I would strongly suggest you do this like they did and buy a home with family that you're always spending time with. It's a like a marriage, you've got to enjoy each others company and have very similar lifestyles. Also, we found a realtor who caught our vision and helped us find a home that gave us plenty of private space. That's really important.

This is a really good idea for the couples because even after all the kids are grown up and move out they will have each other. Not so much of empty nest syndrome. They can grow old together and the holidays will be fun.

Lol, this is totally normal in Serbia. In fact majority of families over here live in communities with their in laws or with their parents 😂 But this kind of arrangement has its ugly side, don't be fooled. They can argue quite alot over most stupid things. In laws and parents love to meddle in everything, and that is a recepie for disaster.

Very interesting..my mothers generation was like this when they were young but as the children grew..each family moved into their own homes..and so i was raised in a traditional single family home..my cousins the same...and now we are starting to get married and create our own families it would be interesting to present something like this.. (we are all graduate or doctorate level healthcare professionals and a couple lawyers..so we all have crazy stufent loans) this could be a wonderful investment into our futures if even for a short while to help us gain financial footing and pay down on our debt. I love this!

This is normal in Europe. Houses in Europe are built by the family and inherited. They are usually built with 2 separate apartments. One downstair, one upstairs, so when a daughter or a son merries they have a place to live without starting the life with a mortgage. You have parents to help with the children and you can help your parents when they are older. People live very close by but they are not interfiering.
