If I understand from history, wasn't the 1920's "Oswald The Lucky Rabbit" originally issued by Universal Pictures? Walt Disney was said to have worked on those before he got the gate from George Winkler and Charles Mintz in 1928. Disney then commissioned his top animator Ub Iwerks to create Mickey Mouse shortly afterwards, who would surpass Oswald in popularity. Screen Gems did agree to televise some of Universal's horror films in 1957 and 1963 as the TV packages "Shock" and "Son Of Shock." They also distributed "Woody Woodpecker" on ABC TV from 1957 to 1962. Did Screen Gems make a deal with Universal Pictures to televise Oswald The Rabbit? Columbia Pictures itself didn't form as a company until 1924 after a few years of being know as "CBC Film Corporation", manufacturer of low budget films. Columbia just recently celebrated it's 100th anniversary in the film business by it's current owner Sony Pictures.

Charles Mintz got the Word that Universal wanted to Join the cartoon industry, and Walt ended his Alice Comedies series, and Winkler ended the contract of Krazy Kat. Then Mintz convinced Disney to make Oswald for Universal. Mintz also convinced Winkler to sign a contract with Universal on March 4th 1927, guaranteeing 26 Ozzie cartoons. The first one produced was "Poor Papa" which was erraneously released 1 year later. The first one released was the Trolley Troubles, the second produced, being released in September 5th, 1927. Winkler ended up signing up another cotract which guaranteed 3 more years of Ozzie cartoons. The last one produced and released was "Saucy Sausages(in the meantime lost)", being released August 19th 1929. Then Walter Lantz was hired in 1928 and got into the fight with Mintz. In mid-1929, Lantz said that if he wins a chess game, Oswald is his and he would exclusively produced Ozzies inside Universal. That mouthful of words actually came True and "Race Riot" was released in September 2nd 1929, the first released and produced inside Universal Studios.
