Alex, I like your comments about pausing at the top. I find I have best results by pausing at maximum windup. and then letting the downswing gradually unwind and reach maximum speed at and through the ball (I compare it to a screen door opening and closing). The swing then feels effortless and in control. I just have to resist the temptation to swing harder, because then it all falls apart.

If it gives you the feeling of a little more time and keeps the flow then great! Keep at it

Hi Alex; this is probably my favorite video you've done to date. Relating the swing to flow gives the impression of loose & easy rather than being quick from the top or pulling with the arms. If I begin to get quick, this is what I refer to that helps me get back on track. I do have a few questions I'd like you to address. When I hear it said, "let the arms fall" I wonder how it happens & from what point in the swing. After seeing numerous pros play on TV, my 2nd question is about sequence, but mostly in relation to how quickly the chest turns in relation to the arms coming down. I know the body leads but it can move at different speeds depending on the player which I guess would be tempo but I'm referring to the consistent rhythm of the swing more than tempo. We've all seen players like Couples & Els but there are never players as well who have really liquid swings like Max Homa, Corey Connors, Chris Kirk & now Jake Knapp who looks like his arms are actually slowing through impact rather than getting faster & his speed can be over 125 & crushing it. So is the rhythm of the swing the same for every shot or change with the club being used for the distance of the shot? How can the chest move so slowly & the arms be so fast but still be in sequence? To me, THAT'S the holy grail in the golf swing. Again, great video!

I watch a lot of Clay Ballard, I think he is more for an advanced golfer, he talks a lot about lag in the golf swing, you make it seem so much simpler to comprehend . I am a 12 handicap, I only play once a week on a league, my partner is a 3 handicap. I do best with a 3/4 backswing, more in control, I am a disaster with a big turn full backswing, so 3/4 back, and I try to power through the ball. It seems I am at my best when it feels like I am throwing the club at the ball, my cousin says that is what a golf shot should sound like. I do the best when I have a rocking motion, back leg to front leg and throw the club on my downswing, but it`s hard for me to consistantly repeat, I am a little stiff armed, but I an goint to practice this transfer motion for now on, love the tips you give us. Thanks for helping out the average golfer.

Welcome! It sounds like we have plenty that may be a little simpler for you. Look up the short golf swing or the don’t turn your shoulders. They help many 👍🏌️♂️

In the video of Tiger (red shirt) look how much knee bend he has at address. We're always told to keep knee bend at a minimum, but since I've switched to MORE bend, I'm hitting straighter and connecting much more solidly and consistently. You wouldn't think it would, but it creates a more stable base. Something to try if you're struggling. I know that's not what this video is about, but since Tiger's right there with bent knees, I thought I'd point it out!

The text description states “When a golfer transitions from the backswing to the downswing, the weight shifts from the left side to the right side of their body”…is that a mistake? I thought when you begin the downswing, the weight shifts from right to the left, i.e. the front. Your video seems to illustrate that.
@TheArtofSimpleGolf Жыл бұрын
Yes. That is a mistake unfortunately. Sorry

Another AHAH moment: the importance of having the correct shaft lean at address. This is also a recipe for consistency and power. I mean: Having too much shaft lean forwards will rob a lot of power and distance. I don't know if you have already addressed this for the various clubs in the long game.
@TheArtofSimpleGolf Жыл бұрын
Yes indeed! Have touched in it previously but perhaps a lesson just on that will be useful for folks:)

Your ball placement isn’t even in the middle anymore. #1…….. your too technical of an instructor. I understand everything but teaching the blind to walk is more simple. Less moving parts, less errors to be made.
